    Senior Day

Holy cow!!! Sunday is senior day. This group is a joy to watch and they will be missed...each and everyone of them! I wish them well, and dang, it is hard to believe they won't be part of the team next season. But, they certainly are part of something special this year. The seniors: ***Malcolm Laws*** ***Duby Okeke*** ***Anton Gill*** ***Evan Taylor*** I also believe there are also a couple student managers that will be honored. They provide a lot of stability and hard work for the program. To all these individuals, good luck and Godspeed!

  2. Believe it or not, our worst case scenario leaves us with only 3 more games remaining this season. It's so hard to believe it's late February. I truly hope we have all been able to enjoy and appreciate this season. We're not only fighting for an NCAA tournament bid on Sunday, but we're fighting for a memorable season, the start of many more entertaining Februaries, the rise in expectations, the continuing fun culture of the bench mob, and national prowess. I've had such a great time rooting for these guys and it's certainly been an entertaining one. Let's do our parts and send these seniors out strong and maybe they'll be able to come back with a couple of NCAA tournament wins under their belts. Go. Big. Red.

  6. I don't really care strongly about this bench mob stuff. We are winning and the team likes it...big whoop, right? Here's what I love about it though: even though this isn't the intent it's getting national talk. If you're looking for little things like Marist winning a game or whatever here is another little thing that gets some eyeballs on us.

  8. I don't care what it is. NCAA's NIT, CBI...I'm buying ALL THE TICKETS...that is all. This team is special and we need to watch them play as much as we can.

It doesn't matter if this is as good as some other year. We need to win a game against a white hot Penn St team where I think you can argue that a not as good Indiana team gets people more pumped. I'll stand or I'll watch the bench put on Macbeth if I think it will help get us to 22 wins.

  12. Wow, Jones, you have watched a different Duby than I have. While he makes some spectacular blocks, play in and play out he doesn't defend well at all. He's a vertical guy who can't move laterally well at all. He's a foul every 30 second guy that get's the opponent in the double bonus before you can say "Tom Eades". Not that Jordy is skilled, but offensively Duby is incredibly limited. And in a close game late, you can't have him on the floor as free throws are a huge challenge. At some point he will have to play some limited minutes to try to guard bigs and administer some hacks, but to me it seems obvious why the minutes are limited with Roby's development and dramatically increased minutes.

  13. It is going to be very difficult for the committee to leave out a team that goes 13-5 in the BIG finishing 4th. You leave out teams like from mid-majors but not the top conferences. I know I know metrics blah blah blah. Behind closed doors it is going to be difficult to argue against Nebraska, providing they beat PSU.

  14. Nebraska = the single college basketball program in the entire history of the sport to have had the least fun over the past 120 years. So now we're having fun. And people bitch about it. F them. And did I mention Bob Knight already? Well, F Indiana.

  15. Indiana beats Minnesota at Minnesota. Puts us in the top 4 even with one more loss. Lady Huskers need to be focused and beat Penn State. GBR

  16. What're you talking about and where have you been the last few games when Jordy has been doing well?

  17. A few random takes in no particular order. 1. Indiana played really good half court defense IMO. At least against our team. The did a great job of clogging up driving lines, and making us shoot from outside. Yes, we jacked up a lot of threes in the first half. To a large extent that is what was there. It always seemed uncomfortable to get it inside, especially via the drive. Palmer was not able to do very many Palmer things tonight, and that is a credit to Indiana D. It was fortunate that we were able to get multiple transition baskets in the second half. Had that not been the case, we very well may have lost. Indiana is a pretty good team right now. 2. I was really nervous when we were down 4, and still had Palmer and Copeland on the bench. I was calling for the horses to come back in before it was too late. And then Mr. Taylor had what very well may have been a season saving three point play to cut it to to a much more comfortable one point deficit. 3. It is good to hear that those huge Indiana treys to keep coming back at us were caused by communication errors. Communication errors that were caused by them not being able to hear each other because the crowd was too loud. Trust me, if the crowd is that loud it will typically result in very good things for us. 4. We really need Watson to take a breathe and make some shots. If he does, we are so much better. 5. Not a huge deal, but I think Miles needs to be just a touch smarter when he is using Gill versus Taylor. To me, Taylor should be starting. We need Gill in the game, when we have one or two of our primary scoring options on the bench. That is when we can live with him gunning threes. Taylor makes us a much better defensive team, and we have plenty of scoring out there with our starting group. I like him in there then a little more. Again, not a big deal, just my preference. 6. We really need to work on some inbounds stuff when we have the ball along the baseline by our hoop. Just tossing long passes in to someone that are not easy, is not good enough. Other teams are looking to score off a set in those spots against us. We are merely hoping to get the ball in somehow. I am afraid this is going to bite us in the ass at a key moment, if we don't improve it.

  19. I know a ton of people use the Bracket Matrix... Well right now they have 11 SEC teams ahead of us at the moment... No f'ing way in hell they get 11 teams in... I see 9 at most... Two spots open ACC has 11 ahead of us as well... No way that happens... I see 9 at most... There is two more BIG 12 has 8 ahead of us... No way the get 80% of their teams in... I see them getting 7 at the most at that is pushing it. My guess is they get 6... There is 2 more Big East has 7 ahead of us... That is possible, but I see them as a 6 bid league... One more PAC 12 has 6 teams ahead of us... I see them as a 4 bid league max... So there is two more Big 10 has 6 teams ahead of us... If we beat Penn St. we will be picked before them and no way do we get picked behind Maryland... So there is two more Once again 13-5 in a Top 6 conference is different than 13-5 in the Missouri Valley 13-5 in the Big 10 is going to get picked over a 7-11 or 8-10 SEC, ACC, Big East and Big 12 team. No doubt in my mind. No opinion will convince me otherwise, so don't bother with the Quadrants and quality wins counter. In my opinion 13 wins in a Top 6 conference is 13 quality wins, don't care how down they think it is. This down league has 4 teams in the top 20, the SEC has two. I don't want to hear that our wins are against the bottom of the league, because Purdue lost to one of those teams Wisconsin? Michigan lost to Northwestern... Penn State lost to the bad Minnesota, Wisconsin and Northwestern? If the league is so down why did Northwestern struggle... Or Maryland? It is all perception in the end if we finish 13-5 I just can not see us left out. I am fairly confident in saying a 13-5 power conference team has never been left out in it's history outside of the 2011-2012 PAC 12. Don't get me started with how crappy that conference was. The highest RPI in that PAC 12 was 45. This Big 10 is not even close to as bad as that conference!

  22. The beauty about Roby is that even when he has an off game...he's still so productive in other ways. Still think his biggest weakness is trusting himself in believing just how good he could be

  23. As long as we're talking about expectations, despite it being a recruiting thread, one player in particular who has exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds is Cincore. I had no idea she would play as well as she has being a 30 minute plus player. Kudos to Jasmine, and 3 lashes to me for thinking it wouldn't happen.

  28. Coach Williams is one of 10 finalists for Coach of the year... Not going to lie she is in the same paragraph as almost all of the best coaches in the Womens game. Kind of awesome to see. The only Big Ten Conference coach listed among the 10 semifinalists for the Naismith National Coach-of-the-Year award, Williams joins Geno Auriemma (UConn), Vic Schaefer (Mississippi State), Jeff Walz (Louisville), Kelly Graves (Oregon), Kim Mulkey (Baylor), Muffet McGraw (Notre Dame), Robin Pingeton (Missouri), Karen Aston (Texas) and Joni Taylor (Georgia) among the contenders for the honor.

  29. I'm being a bit selfish and rooting for Penn State. I already have my flights booked for the conference tourney and don't get in until Thursday night so I'm banking on being the 4 seed with a double bye!

  30. Without tearing Duby down (not a fan of doing that) I will just say I believe Jordy is a much better all around basketball player and is deserving of the minutes he gets over the other bigs.

  32. Tough one, but I'm going with Michigan. We need to hang on to that Tier 1 win as much as possible. Without it our resume just got a little more unimpressive. My thought is we need to beat Penn State anyway, so why does it matter if Michigan wins or loses their game against them?

  36. It sure feels like this team should be in over a 16-11/6-9 BIG 12 team that is on a 6 game losing streak. One of those 6 games was to the "last place team" in the league too. Right Lunardi? What an a$$ clown! Lunardi's dumb a$$ probably has Oklahoma a 6 seed still! Anyway about the game. I felt Roby was having somewhat of an off night, and he still got the player of the game. Not one of our players were on their A game, and we still found a way to win. That is a good sign IMO

  37. Absolutely love Evan Taylor. I know some who sit around me don’t, and are quite vocal about it, but he is our lunch pail leader, who has made numerous energizer-Benny type plays that part go unnoticed. Agreed, he will be hard to replace.

  42. That's laughable man. Was he putting up a double double? No. But not playing well... Really? You give up on guys way to quickly. Have for many years. It's like you get it in your head that you don't like something and the only thing you can say is negative.

  43. I love Roby but man, he has to start understanding that sometimes he needs to be THE guy! Why kick out for the 3 when he could elevate from 8 feet and drain it?

  46. My response to whoops post was primarily about shooters, and where we stand now, and how the newbies will fit in. We got more out of everybody on the team..(freshman or returning players)..than I expected...that's pretty much why we're where are near the top the B1G rankings. It's pretty easy to credit the coaching staff.. They've developed this team to what it is today. You can go down the players list and find lots of great things in each player did....they've responded super and excelled. Not sure what the expectations are for next year. We'll be a different team again. Like I said earlier..Coach has set the bar pretty high.

  47. Yeah, I think there is some truth to it being somewhat down, which is a reality husker fans need to accept. However, I believe it has been blown way out of perspective on a national stage, and moreover that numbers problem with RPI and the much maligned new quadrant system has made the B1G look even worse, which is unfair. That's the crux of the issue.
