  1. I don't think I'll ever have the sense of arrogant entitlement and sanctimonious superiority to know what it would feel like to be a Creighton fan.

  2. Just returned from the game after a 3 hour drive. Fortunate to pull out a victory over a well coached Wisconsin squad that presented some mismatches for NU on defense and we were erratic in taking advantage at the offensive end. I would like to have put Simon on #11 more during the game. Getting the 5 second call late was the play of the game and we were fortunate to have timeouts remaining to inbound at our end. Key plays were Nicea’s 3 point play and Stallworth guiding the offense late in the third quarter. Can we split the final four games? That seems like a reasonable goal.

  3. Gotta be able to get 6-8 points per game with a guard just taking somebody off the dribble or gutting a defense down the middle of the lane. It’s really been an issue all year, but Nebraska’s been able to play around it through good scouting reports and outcoaching/playing the opponent. They’re still working on developing the skill of turning the corner or slicing up a D off the dribble. There’s no Moore or T or Theriot on this roster (yet) who just naturally makes those plays over and over, game after game. Which is why they talk about D so much. They can control it, they have good athletes and an elite shot blocker. They’re a tough nut to crack on D.

Who would’ve thought a team receiving votes in February wouldn’t even be in some first and next four outs in bracket matrix? Who would’ve thought that a team receiving votes in February would only be in less than 10 bracket projections on said site? Just keep winning baby. Then we’ll jump into the top 25 AND be in everyone’s bracket. You want more Nebraska? We’ll be happy to give you more!

  5. Andy Katz has us at #27 in his weekly Top 36 and this is the first time we've made an appearance in his rankings. The national buzz is growing, which can only help others take notice. https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2018-02-12/andy-katzs-power-36-predicting-whos-and-out-ncaa-tournament?utm_content=buffer4affa&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer Seriously though, who would have ever predicted back in October that we'd be receiving votes in the AP poll in February?!?! I think everyone on here would have signed up for that deal in a heartbeat!

  6. But it was at home. And the Big Ten is down this year. So it really just counts as a neutral Pac-12 win, really.

  9. I listened to Bruce Rasmussen on 1620 today and I thought he spoke fairly highly of us. He talked about many things the committee will look at, and he specifically mentioned our games against Creighton and Kansas where the RPI considers it as a loss, but the committee will look deeper into the details of the loss, hinting that we played well in those games and that will probably get discussed. He also mentioned they will look at injuries and the health of teams, so my interpretation was a game against a healthy Minnesota team would help us. Also, he flat out said if we win out he expects us to make the tournament. I really think Bruce being the Chairman on the committee will be a positive for us.

we're not, which is why i used the words I did. I'm suggesting that if someone were two watch the recent games of both teams, they'd likely conclude that at this time we're better than the Wolverines. That's pretty much all I said and all I meant. Will that happen? No idea. I ain't in the room. But if word on the street is correct--not to mention previous committees claiming to watch a ton of games from bubble teams--then I'll argue that we'll appear better than Michigan at this time. That might not hold up. And then I can revise my opinion if that changes.
    3 points
  12. No. It's our own fault. Didn't take care of business in the non-conference. One win between UCF or St John's and we might not even be having this discussion. A win over Kansas and I guarantee you we are in. Also, if we want to more consistently be in control of our own destiny we have to find a way to beat Creighton. That being said - I'm not that worried. This reminds of me 13/14 when we got in. It was all up in the air for a while, but when push came to shove, there was no way a top 5 team (or whatever we were) in the Big 10 was not getting in. If we go 3-1, potentially even 2-2 if the wins are PSU and Maryland, I think we're completely in.
    3 points
  13. Yes, I may start changing my tune. Assuming the committee will be smart, well you know how the saying goes with assuming. Quadrants are absolutely ludicrous and to make them worse, they are based off of the most flawed metric possible. If they would base them off of the average of the 6 metrics, instead of the worst metric by far, then it would make more sense.
    3 points
  14. And that's why I think it's so critical that we either get a Tier 1 win or hope Michigan or Northwestern improve their RPIs to move into that tier. It's hard to defend a team who hasn't proved they can compete in the tournament (generalizing here).

  18. My dream scenario. Very, very, very x 200 unlikely to happen. 1. Nebraska (14-4) 2. Ohio State (13-5) Defeated Michigan State, based on head-to-head record. 3. Michigan State (13-5) Lost to Ohio State based on head-to-head record. 4. Purdue (12-6) 5. Penn State (11-7) Defeated Michigan, based on head-to-head record. 6. Michigan (11-7) Lost to Penn State, based on head-to-head record. 7. Indiana (9-9) Defeated Maryland, based on head-to-head record. 8. Maryland (9-9) Lost to Indiana, based on head-to-head record. 9. Northwestern (8-10) 10. Wisconsin (7-11) 11. Minnesota (6-12) 12. Iowa (5-13) Defeated Illinois, based on head-to-head record. 13. Illinois (5-13) Lost to Iowa, based on head-to-head record. 14. Rutgers (3-15) Good news, we would have an automatic bid to the NIT. ?

We are listed on the following AP ballots: John Feinstein - 20th (6 points) Terry Hutchens 21st (5 points) Jon Rothstein - 24th (2 points) Matt McCoy - 25th (1 point) Scott Mansch - 25th (1 point) So, I guess send these guys early Christmas cards!!! For what its worth, the local sportswriter for Creighton Jon Nywatawa does not list us on his ballot. Also, I'd like to petition that we make John Feinstein's ballot the official poll of HHC. So, I'm expecting to see the game thread tomorrow show #20 Nebraska (19-8 ) vs. Maryland (17-10)!!

  25. Listening to Rasmussen, I get the sense that this committee is going to be very incompetent. He said they don't look at margin of victory at all. What? That is asinine. He mentioned quadrants many times. That is asinine. They are doing this all wrong if these things are the case. And judging by some of the awful placements in that 16, like Oklahoma, they clearly are doing it wrong.

  29. That's a tough closing stretch for the ladies with 3/4 on the road and finishing at Maryland. Yeah, they could beat Maryland, but probably the better idea is to get as many wins from middle-of-the-pack conference foes before you head to turtle land. And road games haven't seemed to be much of an impediment for these ladies, so that's good.

  31. Besides, I think most kids that enter the coaching ranks want to get as broad a set of experiences as possible. She's now played for two different college coaches with proven success. Go work for a third. Learn from as many different, quality coaches as possible because you'll pick different things up at all stops, not just what to do but maybe see some things not to do. Makes perfect sense. And good luck to her.

  32. It seems when a team we play scores more points than us we have trouble winning those games too.

  33. If my math is correct, that looks like a 20-point win. That's blowout territory, if I remember correctly.

  34. So, "They" think there's a better chance that we lose out than that we win out? With 3 out of 4 remaining games at home and the only road game against a team at the bottom of league standings? Tells me the computers still believe they were right about us at the outset of the season and that we've been overachieving this whole time. The computers are wrong. One thing that concerns me is our expected RPI if we lose even one game. Puts us lower than where we are today. But winning out puts us squarely on the right side of the bubble.

  35. If we're talking about what's provided on those team sheets for the selection committee, objectively I'd have to argue that Michigan has the better numbers. And the way pundits have been leaning this entire season, they're in the tournament. So we're fighting for respect at this point. We might subjectively be a better team off paper, and we're going to need much more media attention or committee eyes on our games to make that case. All we can do at this point is continue to win and impress the committee.

  37. By my count here's the teams that have gone under .500 in league play and made the tournament in the last 11 years. Two of those years there were no teams, in another two years there were two teams, and every other year there was one. Both of the years with two teams, those teams were from the same conference. Kansas State, 2017 Oklahoma State, 2015 Texas, 2015 Oklahoma State, 2014 Illinois, 2013 Minnesota, 2013 Connecticut, 2012 Georgia Tech, 2010 Maryland, 2009 Arizona, 2008 Arkansas, 2007

  40. Post Game notes from UNL Postgame Notes: *-Nebraska improves to 10-4 in Big Ten play, marking its second double-figure win total since joining the conference (11-7 in 2013-14) and for the 12th time in school history. *-Nebraska now stands at 19-8 overall, matching the program’s highest win total in 10 years (NU also won 19 games in 2010-11 and 2013-14). *-The Huskers improved to 13-1 at home this season. That marks NU’s highest total since going 15-1 at Pinnacle Bank Arena in the 2013-14 season. NU still has three remaining home games. *-The Huskers have won five straight Big Ten games and seven of their last eight. NU last won five straight conference games in 2013-14, when it finished the Big Ten season with an 8-1 record down the stretch. *-Nebraska has won its last three Big Ten home games by double-digits including today’s 14-point win over Rutgers, a 14-point win over Iowa and a 20-point win over then-No. 23 Michigan. The last time Nebraska won three straight conference home games by double-digits was 1997-98 in the Big 12 (Colorado, Oklahoma and Iowa State). *-Nebraska had eight blocked shots today to increase its season total to 152. It now ranks eighth in school history and is the most since the 1998-99 team blocked 158 shots. *-James Palmer led the Huskers with 15 points and has been in double figures in 25 of 27 games this season. *-Isaiah Roby posted his second double-double of the season and his career with 10 points and 11 rebounds. He is now tied for the team lead in double-doubles. *-Duby Okeke recorded his seventh multi-block game of the season and his first since blocking three shots against Northwestern on Jan. 2. Okeke finished with a season-high four blocks. *-Nebraska improved to 8-1 this season when holding opponents under 40 percent shooting. Nebraska Coach Tim Miles On the outside noise preparing this week "Practice was really slow yesterday to start with. We always do the same drill where we guard their actions and we play a game, "defensive points" we call it. Defense lost it, and we haven't lost defensive points in a long time. So, we played it again which doubled the amount of effort we were going to put out, or energy. Then, we played pretty good after that. By the end, I looked at Kenya (Hunter) and Michael (Lewis) and I said 'this looks like a team, right?' So, I felt a lot better after practice but until the midway point I was worried. You spend a lot of emotional energy on a week like that and that's what I told the guys. Stay off social media for the night, you can't read everything that's out there so just relax and get ready for an afternoon game. I didn't ask them to follow up on that, but they looked fine to me and played well the first half." On Rutgers "Steve does an excellent job and they're so physical it's going to be tough to deal with. You look at what's at stake, and you've got fourth place in the Big Ten and undefeated at home in the league and a chance to play your way into the NCAA tournament. There's a lot at stake. So, we need their focus and they understand what their goals are and they want to accomplish them." On the team's resilience "The first half I was worried because we had given up a lead (from 16 to 5). The second half, I thought we played well with the lead and earned the lead. I was pleased with the second half. I was pleased with the team and their demeanor, but I also reminded them we haven't beat Maryland yet at home. They're (Maryland) a good team, they played well today and we're going to have to be at our best for that team on Tuesday." On Duby "I'm really proud of Duby. It would be easy to sulk and pout and he hasn't. He's still talking in meetings, he's still talking game plan, his reps are down. We were talking and I said 'there's still times we're going to need you,' just because you haven't been in the rotation in a couple times, you're going to be reincarnated. Tonight, think the first shot he blocked it looked like it was going to be a layup and everybody cheered. When they were chanting his name when he came off, that was a pretty cool moment and well deserved." On the defense "We've played that hard at times and defense has to be our calling card. We just don't score enough and we're not at ease enough especially from the two point area, touch and go from three, too. So, we have to be great defensively." Senior Center Duby Okeke On his contribution to Saturday's win: “I had other good games where I came in for a few minutes and gave a spark. For it’s just like being the older guy, just have a mature approach. If I’m not in the game, try and give energy on the bench and if I get in the game, l do. You just have to take the good with the bad.” Junior Guard James Palmer Jr. On Duby Okeke's play: “Were always happy for Duby when he gets in the game. We know he’s going to come in and rebound, and block shots and defend so it’s nothing new to us.” Sophomore Forward Isaiah Roby On staying focused: “The coaches did a good job of keeping us focused. We had a lot of stuff to think about off the court too, but I mean once we get on the court it’s all basketball. They did a good job of that.” On improving on offense: “Just being more aggressive. Just trying to move harder, cut harder, not be so timid out there. My teammates have been finding me really well. That’s just a product of that.” Rutgers Head Coach Steve Pikiell Opening Statement “Great environment tonight. Nebraska is playing good basketball. We certainly played better than that on the road here. We’ve been great at home. Tip of the hat, Coach [Miles] is doing a real good job. They got a lot of guys, they got a lot of answers, they got a lot of matchup problems, and we certainly didn’t play well enough today to make enough layups today to hang around.” On Rutgers’ ability to fight back while down by a large deficit “We just kept fighting. Offensive rebounds; obviously we’re a good offensive rebounding team. We missed a lot of layups tonight. You got to make layups, especially on the road, but I thought we just kept fighting. We’re a pretty good defensive team, so eventually our defense kind of catches up, and with the second shots. We finally got two of our players that haven’t played in a while back, and you could see they were a little rusty but it was good to have them back. We kind of clawed back into it, but you’ve got to do more than that to win the game on the road in this league. On if he sees elements of an NCAA tournament team in Nebraska “Oh, absolutely. I’ve watched all their tapes coming in. They’re on a good roll right now. They have good veteran guys. They have matchup problems; they can go big at times, they can go small. They can do a lot of different things, and Coach [Miles] is doing a real good job coaching them up. But they have a lot of answers, and they’ve got a veteran guard, Watson, I think he’s terrific. Against us the first time, he kind of won the game at the end. So they have some of those characteristics, which you need. You need your veteran guards to be good down the stretch. They have a few go-to players, they shoot the ball well enough and they’ve got great length.” On how Eugene Omoruyi and Mike Williams returning benefitted Rutgers “They had one day at a practice, both those guys. Huge, though. Eugene and Mike are tough. They are tough, they bring this toughness and they bring this fiber. Mike’s a senior and we don’t have a lot of veterans on this team so to have him back, and Eugene fights. It means a lot. It gives you some more options off the bench; we didn’t have a lot of options without those two. They played multiple positions so I can kind of move them around. They mean a lot to us, now we got to get them back in shape and get them back to playing the way they were before they were injured.” On if he was pleased with his team’s offensive rebounds “We missed a lot of shots, so we’re a pretty good offensive rebound team when we’re focused and Eugene gives us a lot of that, too. Having him back – that really hurt us in the last few games. So that’s a good number but it also means you missed a lot of shots, so you take it either way.”

  43. I'm with you - PSU is really talented and plays well when they're dialed in - Watkins and Carr are great players. They are really good - that's our toughest remaining game in my eyes. Fortunately, PBA will be ready for No Sit Sunday II by then. But they had some awful losses over the first half of the season, so they have to win out in the regular season I'd imagine, just to get to bubble talk. By the way, BTN has its Big Ten & Beyond show on after the PSU-Ill game and they just teased it, saying they were going to talk a ton about NU. PSU just about has put this game away, so that show should start in 5 minutes.

    Hate Will Never Win

As if I didn't love this team enough already, they go out and do this. I'm proud of the young men, Coach Miles for standing up for what they believe in. I know you can say to "ignore" it, but unless you are in this situation and deal with us, who are we to judge? I for one am happy when people use their platform in a positive way. The players message is "Hate Will Never Win" doesn't mention the guys name that does the video, doesn't directly mention sex, gender, race...Evan Taylor said "Love one another" NOTHING wrong with that message, and I'm damn proud these players are on our team!

    Hate Will Never Win

Hate wins most days. So my only quibble is with the empirical accuracy of the hashtag. I can't even imagine an America that wasn't freebasing hate speech at a high rate of speed. I'm proud of these guys for being counted, however. on a college campus no less. knowing that there are a lot of fans out there that are going to quietly sympathize with the nazi nutter although they're potty trained enough to keep it at a low volume among their own. Sports and politics have a long, sordid partnership. We don't often notice, because the politics in most sporting events are the kind we view as "normal", or "good". It's when an opinion or perspective that is introduced in that arena that contradicts or deviates from the familiar stories we unconsciously accept that all hell breaks loose with fans. From Kaepernick all the way back to Smith and Carlos in Mexico City, to Louis versus Schmeling to the day we opened up the arena to every military recruiter and flyover ever. I love this team more than I did two days ago because they were willing to deviate a bit from the cultural traditions of the state they play for, even if standing "against hate" isn't exactly going out on a limb on a diversity-obsessed college campus.
