  1. I think what sets this board apart from others is that Nebraskteball is a relatively niche fanbase. You've got a bunch of Husker fans that cheer for DONU hoops to fill the time between football and baseball, a bunch of others that are Jayskers , and a bunch that basically ignore basketball altogether. What's left is a relatively small and passionate fanbase of true Nebrasketball fans. And you know what a small, passionate group of people gets you: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizensHusker fans can change the world actually have a meaningful, competent internet conversation."

  2. I was just thinking about our team after the Drake game this past weekend. I will be honest - I did not expect us to win that game going in, especially when I heard Kissinger was still out. IIRC, Drake kind of beat us bad last year on our home court, so I wouldn't have been surprised with a 15 point loss on their home court this year. The team that was on the court this past Saturday had the same personnel, minus Shepard and Havers, plus Stallworth and Morton off the bench and Cain, a true freshman who joined the team late in the summer. But the team battled, didn't quit, the coach even battled after that idiot call to end regulation, Cain fouled out with 3 minutes left in 2nd OT, I thought then we would struggle, but the team toughed it out and won that game. There were so many times that we could have lost that game Saturday, but each time we found an answer. That was missing last year, big time. Cain has been huge for us, I would trade Shepard in a heartbeat for Cain any day of the week. And the thing is - she will continue to get better. She is a smart player, she plays great defense, she has a tremendous attitude, she is a great teammate, and she is a Nebraska Cornhusker.

  5. I went back and reread this post that came out before our first game. As noted my big concern was interior defense which wasn't very good last year for those reasons noted. I had hopes with the returning players at those positions and the addition of Kate Cain that things would improve. Those hopes have been met and far surpassed. All the players including the full time use of Maddie there have played well and are ready at any time to mix it up. All five return next year as well. Hopefully Rachel's knees are doing ok because we need her leadership on the team.

  6. While there are probably some fans that would do that, I think damn near everyone that partakes in the discussion here is far above that. Mainly why this is an incredible place.

  7. CU struggled in the second half against the Baylor 1-3-1 which is a bit different in part because of the length they throw on the floor. Coach Mac had said they prepared for the Huskers to go 1-3-1 and practiced it all week. He said the zone you all run is similar to Xavier's so there was familiarity. I hadn't been able to watch much Husker Hoops this year and I came away extremely impressed with your team. So many talent upgrades across the lineup. Glynn Watson is the absolute real deal. Definitely didn't have the deer in the headlight look like in year's past. Seems like you are some solid post play away from being top half of the B1G. Best of luck the rest of the way!

  8. Okay, I have had over a day to reconsider my thoughts about the refereeing in our most recent game...NOPE, still thought that the officiating stunk up the joint. No if, ands or buts about it.

  9. First of all, a continued THANK YOU to HHCDIMES for running this place and making it better than ever over the last three years. It's still the premiere fan site for NCAA basketball on the entire Internet, hands down, and it's for NEBRASKA BASKETBALL, which is the most amazing part about it. I don't chime in very often anymore, and I'm often times guilty of being fired up/upset when I do post. That's why I thought I should chime in tonight for a change. After the St Johns game, I was 99% done with Tim Miles - I'll admit it. I was "up to here" with losing by 20 to mediocre teams on the road - "up to here" with key players transferring or leaving the program early - and "up to here" with coaches leaving and only one post-season appearance. HOWEVER.......... over the last month........ a strange thing has happened. I now believe again. No, seriously, I really do. This team looks the part of a 5th or 6th seed in an admittedly down Big 10, but a Power 5 conference nonetheless. They will enter Big 10 play 10-5 (1-1) and win nine more conference games, for final marks of 19-12 (10-8). Yes, I have them at 19-12 (10-8), meaning two wins in the Big 10 tournament will get you into the dance, and one will get you "on the bubble" Selection Sunday. To this point, we are ONE WIN OFF where we need to be to be on target for the NCAA's. We don't have a key out of conference road or neutral site win, with KU our last chance at an IMPRESSIVE nonconference win. Still, we're only one game off the pace, and could VERY EASILY land in the Tournament this year. The athleticism and depth is the best its been in years. The team has a great chance to be HEALTHY headed into Big 10 play, with a full week off before KU then three patsies. Our team really should be 100% health (or as close as you can be to it) with Michigan State completely out of the way and only one more tough tough Big 10 road game (At Minnesota). I think the league is really down. That is also good because our nonconference schedule will make EVERY GAME (outside of Kansas) feel winable from here on out. In league, every game will seem like playing Boston College or below, since we have MSU out of the way and played such a killer schedule to prepare us for league. In short, the schedule sets up VERY NICELY for a run - the team appears to have a great chance to be HEALTHY - and the players have a LOT OF POSITIVE TRAJECTORY. I see Jordy, Roby, Allen, Copeland and Watson all getting much better as the year goes on. GBR!!! Keep the faith - and to Coach Miles, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about you if you can take this team to the NCAA's. I do think NIT is 90% with this team - floor is 7-11 in league. Dave

  10. So, the ref under the basket, 5 feet from the play, calls a basket and a foul on Creighton. He is overruled by the ref sitting on the Creighton bench?

  11. The reality is Miles is now 0-6 but he was not the reason for this one. We struggled to score in the second half. The times we got our best look at shots and actually scored was after timeouts. He did a very good job with the whiteboard today. Let's say Jordy can make layups or say there are only two egregious calls that went against us instead of the plethora we experienced. Lot ways that game could have have been different today and I'm frustrated it ended that way. I don't know if you are in the camp, I don't pay enough attention to who posts what, but the "Yea! We won and are going to the dance!/Shit! We lost. Got fire MIles now" crowd is really annoying. That is the group I think is the most childish. Instant gratification is their way of life.

  12. OK watched Watson's 5th foul now - obviously ridiculous. That was is bad as the call on Roby vs. Minnesota that went viral. Someone needs to post a clip of that foul call also. Outside of the officiating the game was both encouraging and frustrating. Athletically we really outmatched Creighton much of the time and certainly were competitive and gave good effort. A couple things go our way at the right time and we would have gotten a win over a top 25 team on the road - that doesn't happen often. I did think we had some really strange lineups on the floor at times (Copeland with 4 guards at one point - not sure if Taylor or Gill was the 4?" - also had Roby, Copeland and Duby all on the floor at one point which was unusual in the opposite direction.). Obviously some of that was caused by foul trouble - particularly the fact that we had to give so many minutes to Jack who just got abused on the defensive end. You could really tell Glynn Watson wanted this win - certainly hope we can get it for him next year for his senior season. Copeland and Palmer both had very nice games. Roby as well in very limited minutes - he needs to find a way to avoid getting those cheap fouls. Gill continues to give us more than I expected. I wish Evan Taylor would avoid those times were he tries to do too much offensively - he needs to focus on defense and just take advantage of the offensive opportunities that come to him - not try to create things on his own. We have other guys who are much better at that part of the game. I do think we need of find a way to get Thomas Allen more shots. I realize he is a freshman but he is our best pure shooter and we need to get him confident as a scoring threat and more aggressive on the offensive end. For those who see this as an opportunity to bag on Miles - you must not have been around prior to when he got here. We have not had the success I might have hoped for under Miles to this point - but we are "MILES" ahead of where we were under the prior regime - and the trajectory is at least trending slightly upward rather than pointed sharply down before he arrived. I think back to the end of the Nee era when I was on board with those thinking we needed a change - but wow the 10 years that followed that change were difficult to get through. Makes me appreciate the fact that we have at least taken a step upward from that point - and also makes me want to give the person who has us at least moving us in the right direction a chance to see it through.

  13. I think you’re oversimplifying it. I’m not “satisfied” nor do I think hskr4life is either but this team has improved a great deal so far. I’ll reserve judgement for when the season is over. If we continue our improvement we could have a really good season. I’m just as pissed off and angry as anyone right now but unlike some folks here I’m not ready to pile on the fire Miles bandwagon and assuming the season is already lost. Plenty of time for that. In the meantime we can either stay positive and root for the team or take a turn to negative town.

  16. i'm going to date myself here a bit but back in 1967 I was living in Seattle Wa. and we just were awarded an expansion Pro team the Seattle Supersonics. My buddy and I each bought a season ticket for 41 home games at the cost of $102.50 for the season. That team was made up of players that were available from other teams in a draft process. i will never forget those early seasons out there especially when the great Lenny Wilkins came in as player coach. They basically played hard and for each other with great team chemistry. This NU WBB team plays the same way. It's the type of ball that the fans will fall in love with. We're not world beaters yet but congrats to coach Williams for getting the players on the same page in her second year.

    2017-18 Husker opponents

Really this is the one thing Kansas has been the most deficient at this year. Otherwise, Azubuike is shooting 78.4% from the field and 42.9% from the FT line so having our posts foul out because they're putting him on the line wouldn't be the worst thing.

  22. Not surprising. They spell "Blue Jays" wrong, too.

  23. It's funny because sometimes it works out that the team comes out and says enough is enough and lays waste to their next opponent. But sometimes it turns out that's just what the team is. The handful of times I've seen them, they don't seem to be a vintage KU team. They've still got some extremely talented players, of course, but their lack of depth hurts them and I'm just not sure they're a great team, at least not yet. I expect KU to come out with their hair on fire. How far into the game will that last? If NU brings the effort they have the last two games, they'll give the Jayhawks everything they can handle.

  24. We beat BC. Shouldn't have any trouble with . . . it's "Kansas," right? Yeah, Kansas. I say we win 76-39.
    1 point
  25. They may come into our game upset et al. Yet what it tells me is that they currently are not playing at the top of their game, they are beatable, they do not have great depth and they are playing on the road...so tell me why it is impossible for us to win this game???
    1 point
  26. They only let the conference champ go to the tourney for years. I think we can blame a portion of us not making it there in the 50s or some other decade like that on being in the same conference with the team that invented basketball.

  27. It is possible to be disappointed and dissatisfied with the outcome of a game while at the same time be able to see some positives. That's what every coach does with the game tape. You find the things that need cleaned up and reinforce the positive things their team accomplished.

  28. One significant positive taken from this frustrating loss was the numerous times we responded when the Jays appeared to grasp the momentum. We have a tough team. I am very, very interested in how we react to KU coming to town. We cannot be in awe of this blue blood program. Hey, BC just beat Duke at home, why can't we pull off that same type of upset???

  29. Even though there was a lot of crap going on in the Drake game we learned how to face adversity in an away game and fight through it for the win. I think this will pay big dividends down the road as we continue to get tougher as a team.

  31. Hey all, I know I’m super late to the postgame party but I just thought I’d offer my view. -Thought the defensive game plan was very good, and executed perfectly until about the under 12 media timeout -Copeland was phenomenal, aside from being 8-19 which doesn’t look good, but I loved the way he played -Jordy looked good on offense legitimately in every way aside from putting the ball in the basket - I think Anton is the perfect 3 and D guy and plays the roll very well - We had an answer almost every single time the crowd got into it. Game was back and forth and very hard fought down to the wire. -We showed toughness and tenacity. For the first time under Miles, looked like we belonged on the court. - Overall, I’m looking at this lost positively, yes it sucks, but that was a fun basketball game. Best game in the series in quite some time. Trajectory looks good for the fellas. Let’s make next Saturday night one to remember. GBR Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  32. I felt the exact same way after that St. John’s game, where I was done with Miles. But my feelings have changed since then. I truly believe we have a legit chance to finish in the top 6 of a down Big Ten, maybe even top 4. I’m going to cheer for this team and hope some good things will happen. Even though I’m pissed we lost to Creighton today, I was happy with how we played. If we can get Jordy to start playing how he played late last year, I think we have a chance to be a pretty damn good team.

  33. Can't believe miles came out of last media timeout of half without Watson. Lead quickly shrinks from 7 to 3 and lucky wasn't worse. We needed to expand lead going into halftime not piss it away with asinine substitution.

  34. Oh and loved how Cope played today - he did take a lot of shots, but we needed him to. We're asking him to guard guys bigger than him much of the time, be one of our top rebounders, and score a lot. His game is really rounding into form nicely. We'd be in some trouble if he was just playing his first game Saturday at Kansas, as it kind of looked like he might have to do originally. He's made some very nice strides since the beginning of the season and he's ready for really strong performances in B1G play.

  37. We missed TOO many Bunnies. Huskers have the better athletes, but gotta say Creighton has the better coaching and team. Miles hasn't got Eichorst looking over his shoulder any more; time for Miles to pull out all the stops and let it all hang out.

  42. I would guess Nebraska's lawyers have something in the buyout which forbids schools from giving Riley a "discounted" price. Probably something to the effect that his salary for his new job has to be fair market value. I'm guessing an associate head coach makes roughly $750,000/year. Bo would have a lower salary at his new school, even as Head Coach.
