  1. I'm always amazed at the hand-wringing and agony among Husker (and marginally-Husker) folks over missed-out players. Life goes on--enjoy it a little. The constant drip of regret is . . . well, it's a lousy way to start a long weekend. And it happens--it's part of college sports. For example: --Tom Osborne rejected Barry Sanders because he already had a commitment from another small running back--Johnny Rodgers's son, who became injured and never panned out. --Larry Station and numerous others from Nebraska went to Iowa and were all-everything there. --The little running back from North Platte couldn't get a scholarship offer here and has had huge success in college and the pros. And those are in football where we can stockpile 80+ scholarship players. Basketball only has 13.

  2. Will Miles get an apology and thank you letter from Chubick for basically telling him and Arop the truth and giving him the best advice possible? No he will not. Same with all of the OWH people that lambasted him for pushing him to the best option.

  3. Well maybe I can "steal" like 5 other ones from my section and quicky sew them together before the game. Also I'm not allowed to wear white t-shirts in my neighborhood bcause we live in the landing pattern at the Lincoln Airport and all that white was blinding the pilots.

  5. 6,000 minutes in a season is a lot to distribute among 7 women. You'd be talking an average of 29 minutes per player there. You'd probably also be talking walking boots and crutches. That's a lot of minutes across a 30 game season. If your bench is deep and your freshmen are good, get the freshmen in there to develop for down the road and give your starters a blow so that they're strong for the final 5 minutes of the game. If your bench isn't deep, well ... make sure your athletic trainer likes you.

I know it's been said before but we are really young. 75% of team minutes played against Creighton came from freshmen and sophomores. Many of these players hadn't played together much as well. Practice is one thing but games under fire is a whole lot different. Janay our 3 year starter hasn't played in a game yet. It will be interesting to see what she can bring to the table when she does.

  13. Having played college and semi-pro ball, I totally agree Huskerfrank. But also it's good to keep im mind that these early non-conference games are where you can kind of tinker with your lineups, subs, etc. Not that coach Amy isn't trying to win; but when you head into the conference schedule coaches usually tend to have their primary lineup rotations figured. It usually stays around 8-9 players maybe 10 weigh certain matchups, score, etc. But I do agree with playing too many players makes it harder to get a rhythm. 14. I think this playing time/substitution thing is really interesting. If Coach Williams can win playing 10 or 11players, that is a great thing, will keep everyone involved and happy, and promote a great team environment. She did it at SD, and she is certainly not the only coach who works this way. The question is does it makes it harder to be successful? If my life was on the line for one game, or even one season, with any team (not necessarily ours) I would commit to my best 7, having one front court sub and one back court sub. Who are the last 4 players on the Cavs or Warriors benches? Anybody know without going to the internet, of course not because they never play. Another example is of course UCONN, where Geno could be up 50 and still be playing his starters...not defending it, just stating it. Bottom line is players doing well should stay in and players doing poorly should (eventually) come out...it should not be predetermined.

Gotta love message boards. The last coach got killed on here for not substituting enough and playing people too many minutes (although when she did substitute, she caught hell for being negative and taking players out for making mistakes). Now this coach catches it for too many substitutions and wave substitutions. Kinda funny, actually.

  16. Lincoln – For one night, Pinnacle Bank Arena will be a sea of Red and White, as adidas and Nebraska Athletics have teamed up for the first-ever stripe Stripe the Vault night on Tuesday, Dec. 5. For the Huskers’ Big Ten home opener against Minnesota, adidas is providing Husker basketball shirts that will be placed on every seat inside Pinnacle Bank Arena. In order to accommodate providing shirts for the entire arena, size XL shirts will be the only shirts available. Fans who can’t wear an XL shirt are encouraged to wear either a red or white shirt, depending on their seat location inside the arena. Fan can check what color their section is by visiting the arena seating map below. The color-coded map is listed on the bottom of the page and also posted on Huskers.com. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. from Pinnacle Bank Arena and the game will be televised on BTN. A limited number of tickets are available for the matchup with the Gophers and can be purchased today by visiting Huskers.com/tickets or by calling 800-8-BIGRED during regular business hours (Mon-Fri., 8 a.m.-5 p.m.). As of Monday, less than 200 tickets remained for the Big Ten opener with the Golden Gophers.

It's Coach Amy's game style. The plan I assume is to wear the other team out, and save your own players. We'll see how it works...but just only a few games...or one year isn't enough time to evaluate. If the bench is good enough then it may work. If we have 5, 6, or 7 lets say, and their obviously far better than the rest, and they don't get the minutes, then I'll begin to wonder a bit too. For that matter, not so sure we now have deep enough bench to play 12 effectively. I't just where we are now. Next year we'll be deeper. And the next year may be deeper yet. Depends how we develop. I watch closer when it's crunch time, just how the substitutions go. I do think you'll develop your players faster playing everyone a lot. Granted it not the usual ...most teams play the most skilled ....the most. So, we'll see how we progress, not just this year, but later.

  18. Northwestern just experienced the proverbial "Creighton slump". We've experienced it quite a bit the past few years: - 2014-15: lost to Creighton 65-55 at home; three days later lost to Incarnate Word - 2015-16: lost at Creighton 83-67; four days later barely beat Rhode Island (we trailed for most of the game) then lost to Samford - 2016-17: lost to Creighton 77-62 at home; lost to Kansas three days later; then lost to Gardner-Webb I truly believe that if we had beat Creighton in either of those seasons, the psyche of the team would have been better thus increasing the likelihood of avoiding those bad losses (Incarnate Word, Samford, Gardner-Webb). I guess what I'm saying is, watch out for UTSA on December 20th!

I like the substitution. The funnest teams, and the best teams, I ever played on were like that. Hope it continues. Like someone else said, there will be growing pains. The Creighton loss doesn't detract one iota from my excitement about this team.

imo, one might have to enter in the talent factor when you are analyzing those schools. if coach had that type of talent, she may only be playing around 7 deep, too.

  22. I think this is a fair assessment and if it had truly been up to Aguek he would have taken Miles' advice and still be committed here. I think it's also fair to say that the predicament Miles found himself in was of his own making: he had locked down a kid who might not develop (he seems to be) into a scholarship spot he might need (he didn't) because of an overreaction to missing out on the opportunity to land Patton (who we never would have landed anyway) by offering Aguek too early. Finally, I don't think that it's necessary to win this state in recruiting in order to be successful...in fact we could be quite successful without fielding a single player from the state. However, that doesn't mean we've done anything but mostly bungle our way through recruiting in this state; If it isn't taking the wrong guy like Deverell Biggs, then it's overreating by not looking at someone like Khyri Thomas because we don't want to recruit another Biggs.

  32. I agree this type of substitution is very puzzling. I am also puzzled by the frequency of the substitutions. Halfway through the first quarter the entire team has already been on the court. How do players get their rhythm when they are going in and out all of the time? Just asking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  34. I listened to the first half. I kind of thought after watching Creighton play USD that Agnew might be a nightmare for us. And she was. And they always seem to shoot well when they play us. I wonder why we were in such a shooting funk. Any thoughts? It sounded like Grace did some really good things for us, and Nicea was tremendous when she came in. Hopefully Maddie is OK and is ready for our next game.

    Ms. Cain

Yes, it's probably too early for any real analysis of Cain, other than she does have very, very good basis skills at the post. ....She's a true post.....something we haven't had for a long time. She's adapted real quickly. B1G play will answer a lot of questions, or concerns. She will learn. With her is really just a matter of maturing and adjust to the speed and toughness required in the B1G., and when it occurs.......it will happen. I think she'll make some big waves in the B1G season. Has the family background from parents that played college athletics...so has a good BBall IQ already. AND she obviously has what can't be coached ...6-5 height ....and is not a wall flower, or is 6-5 and 120 lbs. skinny. While she's started great, probably next year she'll really blossom. As said.......her strength and quickness will improve. She's still a H.S. kid...just graduated. Unreal find by the coaching staff. She has a real high ceiling. Sure glad she's wearing Nebraska on her jeresy .

Give her a couple of years with this strength and conditioning department, and we might not recognize her. The current team looks like they have bought into whatever the S & C department is selling. We might not get the number of wins we'd like this year, but there sure seems to be enough positive signs, for one to be encouraged.

I just wanted to thank all of you for your kind words and prayers for Brian and our family. As has been previously stated he was entirely devoted to the Husker WBB program and this forum allowed him to share both his knowledge and passion with each of you. I took this photo March 3, 2013 after the Penn State game which was the last WBB game played at Devaney. After the recognition of the seniors I asked to take his picture there one last time. The origin of his username was from his original seat at Devaney (Row6Seat10) but it did not translate to the PBA. He frequently invited family and friends to use one of his tickets so to honor him our family plans to utilize them for the 2017-18 season just as he would have wanted us to do. Perhaps we will get the chance to meet some of you in person, we'll be in Sec. 118. Bruce Karnatz

  47. His loss is going to leave a huuuuge void on this board. I'm not just saying this because he's gone. And I tried to give him props while he was still here. But, his work on the recruiting threads alone was amazing. Beyond amazing. Words cannot describe how much valuable content he produced for our consumption. Those recruiting threads were where I ("fell in love with" is too strong) became a fan of the young women who have donned the Husker uniform over the years. And I'm sure I speak for most everyone on here when I say that. To the fathers of the girls on this team who post here: Those recruiting threads were epic and those were the introductions we had to your daughters. Those were the places where we, as fans, began to feel an attachment to the young women who joined Husker nation (and some of the ones who didn't -- Kathleen Doyle for instance.) I never knew him in person, but I am really, really going to miss Row6's contributions to this board. I can't imagine it's going to be the same without him. He's going to be sorely missed.

  48. Wow. He left an indelible mark on this board for those who appreciate the game and the women's team. His contributions were substantive and substantial and he always managed to avoid the fray of hurt feelings and people being pissed off at each other like when the stuff with Coach Yori went down. May he rest in peace.
