  1. There's no such rule as "over the back", so don't scream it from the 300 level every time someone on your team gets beat for a rebound.

  2. I've probably said this a thousand times. Who cares who starts? Give me the 5 best players on the floor in crunch time at the end of the game. IF a players bitches and moans about not starting, then right there you already have an issue. That's a "me" thing. Its a childish thing. Give me guys that will do anything that the team needs and we will have something. And this is by no means saying we have any guys on the team like this, I just think the fans put WAY too much into who starts and who doesn't. See who the coach has in when the game is on the line and that will tell you a lot. And obviously every game is different based on match ups and who's hot, etc...

  3. Really have been missing your negativity. That's something most people might think but don't feel the need to type it out after the first exhibition game.

  4. Manu Ginobili at 40 is still one of the best scorers in the league and he has come off the bench for the majority of his career. Coming off the bench isnt exactly a bad thing and sometimes can be good for the team. Being the spark can really help a team, it also helps balance out the ball. Not everyone can score at every moment so having a good glue guy out there in Taylor than can score but helps in others ways with 4 starters really helps space the floor. You bring in Allen for him with a few other bench guys who may not be volume scorers like a Roby gives you the ability to make him become the main option on the floor which could potentially give him more looks to score than if he started.

  5. You can't make big-time decisions out of fear of a player transferring. Miles is going to do what he needs to do to give them the best chance to win this season. There are certainly ways to handle guys (for instance, some players may not react well to redshirting even if they aren't in the regular rotation; some guys need that carrot to stay engaged), but if you're deciding rotation spots based on players holding that transfer over the coach's head as a threat rather than who is the best fit, then your program is in a bad place. Allen is going to play a significant role this season. If that still isn't enough for him, then the coaches probably didn't do a great job of vetting his character before bringing him in. It's also a tad early to declare him the best freshman ever. Glynn Watson was pretty well-regarded going into his freshman year and eventually earned his way into the starting lineup. Let's see if Allen can string together a few good games in a row against D-I competition before crowning him.

    RIP Don Halladay

Don Halladay was a long time member of this board (his user name escapes me) who passed away suddenly from a heart attack this past Sunday. I got to know Don sitting next to him, his wife and daughter at Husker BB games at the PBA. He was a good man, father, and husband and he will be missed. Don was a huge Husker Basketball fan who rarely missed a game. His wife and daughter plan to continue to attend games this season in honor of him. Please keep Don's family in your prayers.

    Bad Rules

So a poster made a comment in a thread about a rule issue - and I thought this should be it's own thread. What are the dumb bball rules, calls you hate that you think need to be looked at or adjusted? I'll start: STOP BAILING OUT FORCED, BAD DRIVES! In my opinion, the offensive player is given far too much favor to be physical and rewarded for being out of control by the officials. There's times where I'd just swallow the whistle.

  8. Sometimes, for whatever reason, when we want something really bad for the right reason, one that reaches beyond our own selfish desires is when it will happen. Who knows what will happen this season but if we by chance make it to the NCAA and win a game I certainly won't be happy for myself. I'll be happy for Don's wife and daughter and what it would mean to them. GBR!!

  9. This type of jump in reasoning is typical of today's political discourse. That means your comment lacks reasoning and makes an illogical assumption creating a strawman that is easy to attack. What I said was based on my watching the open practice where they did post work and then open scrimmage, Duby showed better post moves, put himself in better post position and finished better. This small sample size means that is not conclusive evidence of anything but that is my first initial opinion based on what I have seen. I'm reasonable enough to realize that just because something happens once, that doesn't mean it is true in all cases. I will also use that logic when dealing with your future posts. I won't hold your truncated logic in this situation against you going forward and will judge each post on their own merit. No, he should not start. Though it may be close, based on my observations and his past history at Winthrop he has a higher foul rate than Jordy. Starting him might actually decrease the amount of minutes he would be able to play in a game. If he was a hands down, no questions asked better offensive and defensive player than Jordy then he should start. His history shows that he is a better shot blocker than Jordy but when you factor in the fouls, not a major upgrade there. I have already stated I think Duby is farther ahead in his post game (albeit on a very small sample size) but I'm unsure about his rebounding and I have noticed that right now over half of his ball screens are offensive fouls. As a coach, even if I rated Duby out as slightly ahead of Jordy in all facets of the game I would still start Jordy. The two are close and there is no obvious upgrade, Jordy hopefully has a bigger potential upside, and he is going to be here for two more years. That gives Jordy the push. Now you might find my response "douchy," but I have answered your question directly and given logical, basketball related reasons for my opinion. I have been on the board for many years and you will see that my post count is relatively low. That is because I usually avoid chit-chat and prefer to talk about specific basketball issues. My preference is on fundamentals and strategy. I have read NUStudents posts for over a decade now and though many times I don't agree with them and find many of them negative, when pushed, he can give logical arguments for his opinions. (I guess I do have to admit that I posted an entire imaginary discussion one summer on the old board based on if people talked to each other in the real world like they do on discussion boards. If I remember correctly I gave NUStudent an ugly girlfriend in that one so I suppose I should lay off at this point.) This little foray demonstrates why I prefer to avoid this type of thing.

  10. That's part of it. It also means they missed a lot of shots. We made 6 more while attempting 15 fewer. Finish at the rim in the first half and this is a 40 point laugher. We haven't done that in a while.

  14. Just looking at box scores, in two exhibition games with Valpo, Evelyn has 19 points in 53 minutes, is 0-4 on 3s and has 10 assists to 9 turnovers. Pretty much backs up what he did in his garbage time minutes with Nebraska, no? Can't shoot and turns the ball over a ton.

  22. It'll improve in part because the offense gets better. If Nebraska's not turning the ball over 17 times per game, creating easy scoring opps for the opponents, it'll help.

  23. Few things 1. The reason Northwood had so many rebounds is because they missed so many shots. They missed a lot of close shot put backs too. 2. You know that we were not diving for balls against Northwood, why risk injury? I guarantee you this game was about getting an idea who could score, and not about who hustles the most 3. Roby is a top 3 rebounder and missing from the game.

  25. One thing you might be able to get away with is having Taylor start and Allen one of the first off the bench. If we start Allen, then you have Glynn, Palmer, Copeland, and Jordy all in there. I see two guys that I want taking more ball control than Allen. However, if he is coming off the bench, there are a lot more shots and opportunities out there for him. I can see what you are saying about transferring, however, I also worry that there wouldn't be enough shots to go around if he started in place of Taylor.

    RIP Don Halladay

That would be wonderful. I confess I've had visions of years from now my sons standing over my my grave, weeping with tears of joy because the Huskers finally won a tournament game (a-la Cubs fans when they finally won the W.S.). God, I hope it doesn’t take that long. Boy, that's depressing, ain't it?

  27. A little harsh man. Let me give you a run down. These types of things happen every year. I see that you're just a little over a year old on the board. The negative comments were here when I first signed up and I am sure they were here before me as well. They will also probably always be here. Sometimes we just have to have something to complain about. However, when someone gets tired of the negative stuff, they will call someone out on it. Doesn't mean that we have to start calling any of our Nebrasketball brothers names. Some of us are natural sunshine pumpers. Some of us are the exact opposite. We all have gotten called out before and we will get called out in the future as well. Such is the nature of the board.

  28. I agree, Norm. In the little I've actually seen, I think Thor seems to be a pretty high upside guy. No problem at all with the use of a scholarship on him from me. None.

Burst a bursa in his knee and there was a lot of soreness. He is sitting out again tomorrow and then back to full speed. This is a preventative measure so we won't have to see this again this year.

I think that therein lies the problem that we have discussed on this board many times over. Kids don't want to work for anything. Kids don't want to wait their time. Kids want instant gratification and if they do not get that, then they transfer. Sure, I would like a promotion at my current job, and I am working hard to get that. However, I'm not just going to jump ship because I have 10-15 other people that are fighting for that same thing. I could go along with something like getting a waiver if the coach leaves you can transfer. I think that might be an interesting concept. However, that might really hurt some schools when the coach indeed does leave.
