  1. I guess we all make bad decisions when we're in our early 20s. Some people get a tattoo others go to Creighton. I feel Walt made a dumb mistake leaving early and it's unfortunate the NCAA wouldn't let him return. I think he's a nice guy and I'm glad Miles didn't write him off and has welcomed him back as part of the program.

Row6Seat10 WAS there in spirit today. His good friends Richard and Denise Soukup (left) made a banner in his honor and long time Husker fan Kay (sp?) and I joined them for a photo after the game.

What stood out to me was that the girls seemed to be playing with an intensity and speed that was completely absent last year. Of course, Rachel's presence alone would ratchet up the intensity. Without Jessica there seemed to be more teamwork on offense than last year. The defensive intensity and effort was significantly more evident this year (and this was just an exhibition game). I don't know what the win/loss totals will be this year but this team is going to be much more fun to watch.

  7. I truly believe that had Mikki redshirted his first year, we would have that elusive NCAA tournament victory. We were very talented during what would have been his redshirt senior year. With him, it would have been ridiculous.

  8. It would be nice if the exhibition teams we have beaten looked better in their other exhibition games. I'm still scratching my head about Miss St getting railed.

    Nicea's Injury

Even as good as the game went yesterday.....we did miss Nicea's defense. It looks like we can be a decent defensive team as we get a few more games under our belt. Kind of looked like we were in the run the offense and score phase yesterday. But we did have steals, and a couple of blocked shots. This is going to an "active" team. Better put your glasses on and pay attention.

Well now that everyone should be home from the Exhibition Game, I thought it might be good to start a thread with comments on the games and the progress of the WBB program. Since Row6Seat10 isn’t here to share his views maybe it should be called “Row6Seat10 Musings” (I’m sure he is here in spirit ) This way anyone can jump in or start a thread if they want to talk further about the respectuve games. (Sorry to be such a copy-cat of the MBB forum, uneblinstu, ) So what do You think of the Minnesota-Mankato game? First, it’s really nice to see the Ladies back on the court. It is especially good to see Rachel Blackburn return to the game. Her leadership and skills have been missed; she should be a major factor in the success of the team this year. Everyone looked good coming out of the box this game (the closed-scrimmage @ Iowa State really helped in getting ready for the season). With the returning , and incoming, talent this year, things are looking UP for the season. Newcomers (Kate Cain, Taylor Kissinger and Bria Stallworth) put on quite a show and will be valuable contributors during the season. All the returners came on Strong too and had a good day. Ladies were deadly from the three, (11 of 28 (39%), and 72% from the free throw line. Double-digit scorers were Taylor Kissinger (22 pts), Hannah Whitish & Bria Stallworth (15 pts ea), and Maddie Simon (11 pts.), followed by Jas Cincore (8 pts) & Emily Wood with 6 pts. Total Rebounds were 50 and 20 assists. . Glad to see Darrien Washington get a lot of playing time, 6 rbs & 2 assists. No Nicea sighting (ankle) or Janay Morton (foot). Hope they recover from their injuries and return to the floor soon. Eager to see the players’ stats & minutes. (Maybe Bugeaters1 can find and post the Full BoxScore ). The first question is: How soon will we exceed the total number of wins last season? Your take-aways?????

  12. HUSKER HOOPS CENTRAL CHALLENGE IS BACK! It's officially November and you know what that means! An obnoxious amount of pumpkin spiced everything, clocks that turn backwards, crisp air, and excuses to buy things you don't really need on the day after giving thanks for the things you have. Well... that and IT'S NEBRASKA BASKETBALL SEASON! If you need yet another reason to get excited for this time of the year, we've got one more for you. For the regulars on the board, you know that HHCC is a great way to pass time, show that you're smarter than Ken Pomeroy, air your grievances, or just express your optimism by only picking Nebraska to win every single game. It's your game, your strategy, your bragging rights, and just a fun way to stay part of the HHC community throughout the season. Everybody is encouraged to play, rookie or veteran. If you miss a game or don't even start playing until the middle of the season, don't be discouraged to join. You'd be surprised by how quickly that leaderboard can change throughout the season. The rules are the same as last year with more opportunities to earn some bonus points throughout the season. Last year's Top 10 finishers were: 1 Husker4Life *2 KenPom 2 Crush78 3 1sdpad2 4 hhcdimes 5 NUtball 6 trickey 7 colhusker 8 HuskerFever 9 huskerbaseball13 10 Buglem Game on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HHCC SCORING AND RULES If you want to be part of the HHCC, all you need to do is guess the score of each game. Participants with at least one entry will be included in the overall standings. There will be a thread available following the completion of the previous game. Scoring is based on how close you were to each team's actual point total and the margin of victory. HHCC GAME SCORING: The object of the game is to have the lowest accumulated points at the end of the year. Scoring is taken from three variables (margin of victory, actual score, correct game winner); with possible bonus points. Margin of Victory: This is how many points either team wins by. Scoring: Difference between Actual MoV (Husker score & Opponent score) Predicted MoV (Predicted Husker score & Predicted Opponent score). This is then multiplied by 2. Bonus: There is a -5 bonus for correctly predicting margin of victory. To get the bonus two things must happen. 1. Your margin of victory must match the actual margin of victory. 2. You picked the correct winner. EXAMPLE Prediction: NU 79 Opponent 72 Actual: NU 72 Opponent 62 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (Actual (72 62) = 10 - Predicted (79-72) = 7) = 3 * 2 = 6 MoV = 6 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Actual Score: This is the final point totals of both teams. Scoring: (Predicted Husker score vs. Actual Husker score) + (Predicted Opponent score Actual Opponent score) Bonus: There is a -5 bonus for correctly predicting either the Huskers score or the opponents. EXAMPLE Prediction: NU 79 Opponent 72 Actual: NU 72 Opponent 62 ------------------------------------------ (79 72) + (62 72) 7 + 10 = 17 ------------------------------------------ Game Winner: Picking the correct winner. Scoring: Zero points for correct winner. 20 point penalty for incorrect choice. The final score for this game would be 23. Correctly predicting the actual game score nets all -5 bonuses and a -25 bonus, for a best possible score of -40. Missed Game: Your score for missing a game is (the highest score of picked games + 25 points). End of year: Your highest score will be subtracted from your final point total. No Games Missed equals a -25 bonus to your final score. HHCC RULES: All new HHCC game threads will be posted following the previous game. The first game will be up after the last exhibition game. Post your prediction in the HHCC thread. All predictions must be in by the scheduled tipoff time (noted in the thread's title). Any corrections to your prediction should be done in the HHCC game thread. If you are unable to edit your score, just quote your previous score and post the new score underneath. All score updates will be posted throughout the season.

  14. Good take, and if the kids understand their roles, this would be sort of the perfect scenario. Yet I keep thinking back to Mikki Moore and wonder...what if he would have played one more year with us. His freshman year was a total waste.

  18. Looking back on the roster it's probably either him or Evan Taylor as we wouldn't have needed the PG depth from Taylor. (having both = no Copeland) Bakari would be a junior on this team...probably a rotational player. Doubtful he'd be starting and potentially never starting with Watson and now Allen here. Seemed like a good teammate so he probably would have fit in despite no doubt wanting to be a starter. No doubt would have helped though I'd have to see more than beating up on Chicago St in an exhibition to really feel anything one way or another. Tarin Smith had a couple of 20 point games last year. His overall numbers don't really have me missing him at all.

Hopefully her rehab continues to go well. She is a very important part of our team and with the better depth we have this year they should be able to gradually work her back into the line up.

  25. Jasmine, Maddie, Hannah, Bria, and Taylor all had great games. I realize the posts are not our strongest offensive players, but the ball never goes from the wing into the post. Must be frustrating for them. Great to see transition baskets and 39% from 3 is outstanding.

A lot more hustle this year on defense especially inside. The guards showing the added year of experience. Nicea and Janay will add a whole lot to the team in leadership and experience. We can afford to bring them back cautiously so they are fully healed for conference games. Although only playing a Division II team still a nice win.

  27. I hate to draw parallels between eras, but here goes. I remember when the 90/91 squad hung 100 on Illinois @ the San Juan shootout and everyone was like WHOA, where did that come from? (Illinois was coming off a recent Final Four) but here we are again. No one NOT sitting on a Lincoln bar stool expects us to do squat, but this team is gonna be sneaky good and there will be a handful of WTF moments during the Non-Conference schedule. Bank on it.

As I stated in the game thread, 72.2 % from the charity stripe will keep the Huskers in some games this year. One other thing is that it looks like it will be a long bench again this year. I know some people don't that that is a good idea, but with the type of game coach wants to play it will tire them out and will need the all of the bench.

  30. Kissenger is good in many phases of the game... than only shooting the three. (and she's a dynamite scorer obviously). Plays good defense, moves well on the floor. Doesn't make turnovers... Just looks and plays better than many sophomores. Appears like she's having fun, and adjusted well all ready. She's ready. Jazz and Maddie are going to have good years. Much better adapted to Coach Amy's game now. Will be big assets this year. The "newbies" did well too. We have another T in our presence. Love her drives to the basket. Cain will get better as she gets more experience. The signs are there. Like Coach's concept on the post players, shuffling them in and out. Will help save Burns knees not get over worked, and will help Cains easing into the process. One thing I thought was big....we have a much better spread of players at their positions. Now Maddie can play the forward...much more skilled at that position..for example The team is jelling well already....good team play through out the game. Easily we (they) are far ahead of last year as a team.

  31. I was glad to see him at the scrimmage. I was afraid when he left there would be some bad feelings. Apparently, not as bad as I feared. I've been told Walter has grown up some since that experience. It's good to see not only that he wants to be around the program but that he feels welcome. I think his presence disproves all this stuff we'd heard from certain corners about how "everyone hates Miles and can't wait to get out of the program."

But Prep School doesn't start your eligibility clock right? So theoretically the player could go to a year of Prep School, then redshirt their first year in college.
