  1. Despite this being game where the kept score, use referees and we were able to watch it on our media devices, read into the results of this game at your own risk. A few observations. - Glynn is still good. - Palmer was the best player on the court. - If today is any indication, they'll be a better 3 point shooting team. - Gill did basketball things and didn't seem worse for the wear. - Going on the road for this game will prove to be a good call, I think. - Felt a little like Copeland settled for outside shots. Would like to see him inside the arc a bit more. - 48 points in the first half without getting much from the I-guys is a good sign. And to score 75 or whatever it was without much from them, too, is a bit of a statement of the depth of the team. - I liked that they had to fight through some adversity in holding off the late MSU charge and still come away with the win. That's a good thing you probably can't get in an exhibition. - All-in-all, I really am happy with how this turned out for NU. Most importantly, this game is to raise support for Hurricane Relief. To lend your support go here:

  2. Nah, nobody knows anything about this team yet. Last anyone knew, NU wasn't very good and we lost three starters off a bad team. They should assume we'll be bad. Time will tell whether we actually are or not. Same goes for them, too, for that matter. Making any sort of judgment from this game is probably a bit of a fools errand.

  3. If you told me 76-72 before the game I would say hey, that's great! How it went down was a little weird, but we did enough to keep the lead and get the win. Jordy quietly had a great game I thought. Copeland will be fine.

  4. Team must have heard ya in the 2nd half, 9er (on not using up all the threes)! Gulp.

  5. 48 in the first half gives one a lot to be excited about. 28 in second half is okay Hanging on after playing poorly in second half gives some hope! Road win vs a power 5 school even when it doesn't count has to be a boost.

  8. Yeah... Pretty funny that it was a "we suck (which we don't)." Followed by a "Nebraska sucks btw," when we were up by over 20 and beat them at home.

  9. Mississippi State was in the final four in the not too distant past. Those that remember, are likely similar to Husker football fans who struggle with losing, especially at home. They are further miffed because of the lack of history and respect for our basketball team. Good for us, bad for them. As I have indicated before, we are possibly in the position to provide some shock and awe. We need to take one step at a time, and not take any outing for granted. The step taken today was certainly promising.

  10. You would think, that by some of their quotes, their best calf just died. Someone said "We just need to scratch the basketball program." I'm going to call it right now that we do not finish 13th in the Big 10 and they finish middle of the SEC.

  11. Probably don't even think Nebraska has a legit hoops program. Or maybe they believe this fallacy: "$EC never loses, as their conference thinks they run the world." Just a hunch.

  12. Palmer is a player...he will make a difference this year Glynn is a top level PG. Jordy is still recovering. But he made some nice plays Copeland is rusty, and it will take some time to knock off that rust Evan is solid. He is the glue player on the team. Those who love Tanner, he is going to play spot minutes and he knows what to do. Roby did some good things, but he needs to knock down his open looks. Good rebounder, good defender, good protecting rim. Gill continues to surprise me. His recovery is beyond expectations so far. Two of three of the freshmen look like redshirts. Thomas is a work in progress. Duby will help. He has a presence and confidence that will help. Jack is basketball smart. He may not be the most athletic, but he seems to be where he needs to be. We need him to be more consistent at the 3. The first half was phenomenal. We played well the first quarter of the second half. Then we shut off the aggressiveness. We will hopefully learn from that. We have a number of talking points as we move forward. Those who feared we couldn't rebound, not to worry, we look to be a good rebounding team. We can defend. We play well as a team. We have at least two go to players. We shared the ball well. We ran well. We played well in transition. But remember, this is only an exhibition game.

  13. another good note is that we hit 80% from the charity stripe.

  14. We probably would’ve played better in the second half if we hadn’t had such a large lead that we were trying to protect. We stopped being aggressive and started playing not to lose rather than playing to win and that always seems to get the other team back into the game. That’s what happened today. Something to learn from. Still very encouraging that we were able to get out to a 23 point lead.

  15. I think our defensive quickness and length on the perimeter looks pretty remarkable. Held them to 8% from 3! <-- pretty remarkable stat.

  16. Good: 80% from the line, 16 assists Decent: 30% from 3 Yuck: 16 turnovers, lost on the glass by a rebound after dominating early. The talent is there, yall. It really is.

I don't get why you two are off in the weeds over this. Perhaps I've over-estimated some people on this board. I figured 99.9% of the people here would realize that there was no quid-pro-quo trade by which we gave up Morrow et al in order to get Copeland et al. I didn't figure it even needed to be reiterated. There's nothing "intellectually dishonest" about the way I phrased the poll when I made clear in the OP to "just PRETEND that we swapped" these players for those. This implies that I understand we didn't actually, directly swap them. Could I have phrased it the way Dimes thinks I should have? Sure. I suppose. Or he could have started such a thread himself. But it wouldn't have captured what I was more interested in discussing, which was whether the transfers who will now be eligible are a net gain over the transfers who left. To me, there was a certain symmetry in having two people transfer out of the lineup from the sophomore class and having exactly two others step into the lineup as juniors the following season. And the one player who would have been in this year's senior class is replaced by another senior. So the class sizes have essentially remained the same as far as the players who would have been available to take the floor. Other than Jeriah Horne. I could have phrased the poll any number of ways. It seemed most interesting to me to describe it in terms of a fictional trade. I grant the analogy doesn't fit perfectly. I never said it did. I thought I made that clear in the OP when I said "just PRETEND that we swapped" etc. It seems most people understood what I was getting at.

  24. Perhaps I'm wrong but I think Miles will benefit greatly - perhaps most - by Moos' hiring. Miles will work well with an AD who's outgoing and extroverted and relationship oriented. Eichorst struggled there, and Miles - unlike Bo - made his share of good faith efforts toward Eichorst. This'll sound odd, but you know what could really use a good men's basketball season? Nebraska football. Some other sport at Nebraska needs to take the pressure off in the spring/summer. Husker football, regardless of the coach, could use a little less opinionating and talk radio coverage in the offseason. Of course Husker football will always be No. 1, but it wouldn't hurt if the No. 2 story in March was a NCAA berth/NIT run vs, you know, junior day in recruiting.

  27. Some quotes... not specific... stated.... "Nebraska isn't even that good." "They were picked to finish 13th in the Big 10." "We (MSU) are going to be terrible again this year." Most of it wasn't that we were good. It was that they were terrible, played terrible, were missing Ado, yada yada. Sucks because I expect them to be a decent SEC team this year and I could see that from the game they played today.

  28. So I missed the last 30 seconds so I could go down to the KCP&L district to watch KU play Mizzou. Man this place is nuts it's like the Final Four or something. Both teams are INTENSE. Oh, and Devonte Graham is good. Like REALLY good. Glynns gonna have his hands full. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

  33. Biggest thing so far, five minutes into the second half, is that we didn’t let off the gas and let them back into it. We extended our lead after half time. That is so very good to see. I was really worried to see what would happen that first five minutes and we won the first five minutes of the second half.

Seems like this was phrased better under 'will this team be better than last year's' because this trade as structured is intellectually dishonest. Here was our roster for this year when the season ended last year. Palmer and Copeland were already part of the team before the other 4 guys left. Really we have traded: MJ, Ed, JH, and Fuller for Dube, Thomas Allen, Thor, and an empty scholarship. If one wants to go a step further in knowing that Fuller was going to grad transfer we're talking about MJ, Ed, and JH for Dube, Thor, and an empty scholarship. With all due respect to Dube, Thor, and no one, the other 3 guys would have provided a lot more depth. On the other hand, you can look at D. Biggs for the value of addition by subtraction. Now...is our team chemistry going to be better with 3 guys gone who would probably be griping about lack of playing time/starting off the roster? Will the big discussion point be that we're just one rebounder away from winning some games? Are we going to get another 5 star mid season?

Let's not kid ourselves! Two years ago we all realized Fuller was going to go to a smaller program so he could try to play some significant minutes. Therefore, it is only 3 transfers we are concerned about. Morrow is the biggest loss as a rebounder. I believe Jacobsen and Morrow realized they were both going to be challenged by those who were ineligible. Morrow wants to be a 3....good luck to him unless he developed an outside shot. Jake had good D, yet he saw he could not carry the day on the offensive end of the court. Horne retreats to Tulsa...enough said! This was a good old fashioned upgrade by trade!

I think I know exactly what he's alluding to. Hint: this chemistry issue corresponds almost exactly with the timing of our end-of-season swoon last year.

  44. I will go with Miles' comments at the conference media festival. He said that when players think of themselves fitting into a particular spot in the lineup, they become a detriment to team unity when they're asked to play in another spot. On team chemistry alone, I'll say the trade was a slight net positive.

  45. @Swan88 I think most of it stemmed from his visible lack of emotion. He didn't display a lot of it, and people interpreted that as passivity. Or at least that's my theory. Also, he seemed to be allergic to dunking the ball. Lots of folks didn't like that about him either.

  46. I would love to have another JBD down low. His last year's stats weren't as good as his second year because of the feet problems, but we haven't had any post since be able to put up numbers like that second year. Almost 2 blocks a game his last year is better than any rim protector we have had since.
