  1. Handy Johnson

    By the way ...

Copeland & Allen could easily blossom into "Stars" and there's no reason to think we won't have a surprising amount of depth. Let all the Debbie Downers think whatever they want.

  2. Notes to share from the final offseason scrimmage. The following information is from captioned photos and short clips posted on the huskerhoops snapchat account. From what i could tell, here is how the players were teamed up: RED TEAM •Anton Gill •James Palmer •Justin Costello •Tanner Borchardt •Isaiah Roby •Nana Akenten •Glynn Watson GREY TEAM •Malcolm Laws •Jack McVeigh •Isaac Copeland •Thorir Thorbjarnarson •Duby Okeke •Thomas Allen •Evan Taylor *Jordy Tshimanga and Johnny Trueblood were not visible in any of photos/videos. NOTES -Roby wins opening tip over Duby -Copeland knocks down a 15 footer over a contesting Anton Gill -Anton scores a layup, Duby was protecting the paint -Duby dunks the ball. Palmer and Tanner were both in the vicinity but did not get "dunked on" -Palmer ties the scrimmage with a 3 over a contesting McVeigh -Glynn pulls up for a long 2, both Evan Taylor and Duby with the attempted contest of the shot -On the final possession Glynn steals the ball from Evan Taylor or Thomas Allen (couldnt tell which one had possesion of the ball bc of angle) to seal a 26-24 win for the red team.

  3. Don't know if it matters but he did retweet Xavier Johnson's video. Maybe the lure of going to a prestigious basketball program has diminished in the last few days. Quick question: if Boeheim paid his own kid to play at Syracuse is that considered allowance?

  4. Spent a few minutes resting during yesterday's chilly day with my annual issue of Lindy's college basketball magazine. These are the few facts gleaned this year. 1. For the first time I can recall, NU was picked to finish dead last in the conference and no player was mentioned anywhere in the magazine other than on the one page allotted to us. Our article was written by Lindsey Willhite, a person I have never heard of, rather than the usual OWH writer. The only other place we were mentioned was for the November 16 game vs St. John's where it said Tim Miles had a chance to pick up a much needed victory. 2. St. John's backcourt was rated the 4th best in the nation. Mitch Richmond, the old K-State star is now coaching the guards according to head coach Chris Mullin. 3. Michigan State is rated the # 1 overall team and picked to win the NCAA. 4. Tum-tum Nairn's first name is Lourawls. Many years ago my spouse and I went to Lake Tahoe to see what it was like and were trapped in a casino during sudden blizzard conditions. We wandered into a lounge and found that we were the only people there other than the headliner so we got personally serenaded by....that's right, Mr. Lou Rawls

  5. I've never felt constrained by what I don't know. I've always gone out on limbs with this basketball program based on what I know, what I think I know, what I can reasonably surmise, what I think I can potentially infer, what seems realistically plausible that I can sell with a straight face, what is within the realm of possibility guided by hopefulness ...

  6. I'll make a prediction: I don't think we lost as much as people fear we did and I think we gained more than most people realize. Losses: Webster Jacobson Morrow Horne Fuller Gains: Copeland Palmer Allen Akenten Okeke Thorbjarnarson The losses averaged less than 30% from 3; I'm going to guess the gains will be in the neighborhood of 35 to 37.5%. Four of the five guys in the loss category viewed themselves as guards/wings. Still couldn't hit over 30% from three. Okeke won't take a 3 pointer; the other five gains can all hit them pretty reliably. Neither Morrow nor Jacobson were likely to start this year. I haven't had them in my starting lineup projection since long before they announced they were leaving. Horne and Fuller both made good decisions to find better fits. Fuller might not have seen the floor this year; Horne was either an undersized 4 or an underathletic 3 and will fit in much better at the level of a Tulsa. Copeland has been penciled in as a starter ever since he transferred and Palmer is also a strong candidate to start. Webster is the only guy on the list of losses who would have been a likely starter if he'd had another year and came back. And even Tai had his shortcomings. Some of his turnovers were just dizzying. And his perimeter offense was a weakness. He'd still probably be the best perimeter defender on the team, so I don't want to understate his value. Yet, we pretty well sucked at perimeter defense last year so we probably couldn't be much worse than we are.

I am betting the design of the teams have zero relevance. Early season is about building cohesiveness and players learn their teammates tendencies, strengths and weaknesses. The cream will rise to the top as the season approaches.

  8. Saw tweets both Jeff Goodman and Rob Dauster discussing Patton parting ways with Andrew Miller and the fact that this past year was the first which Omaha Sports Academy (Patton's AAU team) was sponsored by Adidas. Not a whole lot of that has to do with Creighton. But we shall see where it goes.

  9. I don't see the difference. Regardless, the player gets paid - to come to your school (that doesn't mean he might not get paid more to go to another school). It doesn't make any difference who is doing the paying, the school gets the benefit of the player going there. As long as the school has knowledge that a player is getting paid, by whomever, or reason to suspect that a player may be getting paid to come to their school, the school is complicit.

I think she's a freshman as are the other two commits she was talking about. All three 2021 commits. A big plus for Cook in recruiting top talent is his ability to coach them to become top international players and Olympians. No present women's college volleyball coach can compare in this area.

  11. Ahh, brings back old memories. Actually, I remember finding it a bit intimidating when he was singing directly to us and so we left after a couple of numbers...and then felt guilty about that.

  12. Rumors starting to swirl about Creighton being next on the hit list. Be interesting to see if any truth to them.

  13. A writer over on a Syracuse basketball message board seems to be an expert of sorts. He writes a long piece to explain what's going on. Here's an excerpt: "In short, some coaches let kids get paid by agents and shoe companies, and other coaches actively participate in the process. . . . I think that Syracuse is the kind of school that lets kids get paid by agents and NOT the kid of school that actively participates in the process. So those people saying "thank god Syracuse never pays its players" are missing the point. Syracuse players are still getting paid, its just that Syracuse coaches are not exploiting them or particularly benefiting from the fact that they get paid. . . . The real worry, to me, is that lists of players who accepted money are going to come out, and some SU player will be on that list. The average non-die hard sports fan will not have a good enough understanding to differentiate between the teams who cheat in a way that gives them an unfair advantage like Duke and Kentucky, and the teams who just tassetly allow cheating to happen, like Syracuse. Of course, if Syracuse goes down in this thing, so will most other schools. " Maybe this writer is providing some insight for us on the Andrew White III situation?

  16. A friend of mine and a Louisville fan posted a "pity-the-poor-Cardinal-fan" plea on Facebook last night: "We may be mediocre to bad for a full decade. Woe is us. Don't gloat because this could be you." I had to smile.

  17. I don't think anyone doubts Miles and his staff ability to recruit. It being able to convert the talent to wins on the court that is the issue.

Again other than it would bruise her ego that she didn't get her way, how did she have hardship?

  19. Option 1: Money was tight when Disney started off so they had to split up the clothes. You get the shirt, you get the pants, etc. Option 2: Ducks can't swim with pants on and Mickey is a "suns out guns out" guy, er mouse. Option 3: They're all exhibitionists.

  21. Ha! According to Wiki, Jim Boeheim's birthdate is November 17, 1944. That means he's approaching his 73rd birthday. His current wife is 21 years his junior. On a recruiting note, check out this article. Here's what the article says about Nebraska: In talking about Nebraska, Roberts talked about how Nebraska coach Tim Miles wants Roberts to help rebuild the program. One other interesting note. Roberts mentions Nebraska assistant Kenya Hunter, who is a native of Arlington, Va., and previously worked as an assistant at Georgetown. "Coach Miles and Coach Hunter have been recruiting me for some time now. They constantly talk to me about the plan they have ready for me and the tools I would be given if I were to go there. Both coaches' relationships with me have been great. The program is not necessarily in a rebuilding process, but they want to make the right steps to get them over the edge and by recruiting me they believe I am one of those pieces that can help do that.''
