    Anton Gill

If AG is able to contribute something this year, that would be a nice ending to his college basketball story. I'll be pulling for him to find some measure of being able to contribute to a successful team this year.

  3. Too much uncertainty at NU to come to Lincoln. Who knows how Miles is going to get along with his new boss....

  4. Hopefully. This has been said before and proven to not be the case. I'm looking forward to finding out because I think this year it might actually be true.

  5. Nebraska finally has a legit Big Ten depth chart, in my opinion, for Miles to use various lineups depending on matchups within a ballgame.

  6. Disappointing but better than if he had committed to Minnesota.

  8. To you, sure, I'm sure you believed that. Not doubting you. But there have been a handful of times over the years where that was said (not ascribing to any one inparticular...). Foolhardy or otherwise. We tend to get wrapped up into these optimistic states before the season starts (I've been guilty of this) and think we're better than we actually are. Until I see it on the court, I'm not gonna do that. That's all I'm saying. And if Pitchford had built off that sophomore season instead of turtleing up, you'd have had something to work with at the 5.

  9. Personally, I don't ever remember looking at our roster and thinking it was a legit Big Ten depth chart. To me, there have always been missing pieces. We've had a couple of good players and a role player or two, but there's always been that spot in the lineup where I've always kind of had the "if only" sentiment. If we just had a quality whatever to go along with what else we have. So, even the year after our tournament trip, when everyone was giddy about bringing back the bulk of the talent from the year before, who would claim we had a legit center on that squad?

    Next Years Starting 5

Any depth chart at this point is essentially a guessing game

  11. No offense, but not me. I think that's a minimum expectation for this year.

  12. He's set to announce at 5pm. A genial person might let coaching staffs know beforehand and that information might work its way out.

  13. By the way, my full quote was: "Nebraska finally has a legit Big Ten depth chart, in my opinion, for Miles to use various lineups depending on matchups within a ballgame."

  14. Kind of funny in that a few months ago we were wondering if we would have enough players to fill out our roster for the coming season.

  15. Upon a player's commitment, it is protocol to have the title of the thread change to the player's name with the school of his commitment listed afterwards. Just FYI.

  16. Normally. If football falls apart, Miles may get a reprieve for this very reason

    2018 recruiting

I doubt these guys stay for a full game nor really care who wins...overall it's 90k+ at the stadium plus all the bustle that goes along with it. It just reallllllllly sucks if you're a Husker fan.

    Serious question ...

We should be better this year than last. What mostly hurt us last year was unbelievable opponent three-point shooting, a really tough non-con, a couple of stupid bad breaks, poor three-point shooting, and losing our top returning scorer. Will opponents shoot the three like they did last year? Not likely. I can't see it happening again that bad. Non-con? Still formidable, but not as tough. Bad breaks? We'll see. Three-point shooting? I think we've addressed that. Should be better. Losing our top scorer? Well we lost Webster to graduation, but we need some of the new players to step in and replenish the scoring. But here's my problem. From last year's team we lose Webster, Morrow, Jacobson, Horne, and Fuller. They are replaced with Copeland, Palmer, Allen, Akenten, and Okeke. In an "on paper" world, it looks like we are bringing in a better five. But this reminds me of an earlier thread where Norm asked when was the last time we had a legit lineup going into next season. I've been excited about lineups going into the next seasons for the past few years now, and this year's no exception. But just take last year. Even with us losing White, I thought we'd be really good because we had a true center, a solid core of sophomores, and new players like Tshimanga, Anton Gill, Roby, Horne. But Gill really struggled. I assumed he'd take up the transfer baton of Petteway and White before him. Roby showed flashes of greatness, but overall he played like a freshman. Very up and down. Same with Horne, only worse on defense. Tshimanga showed some promise, still had a long way to go. So what player expectations will not be met this year? I don't know, but it seems I'm always full of hope and excitement before the season starts, then reality sets in by way of how they actually play. Naturally it's too soon to know whether this team will be better than last year. It should be. But this year I can't bring myself to be too excited until I see how guys like Copeland and Allen and Palmer play. I just can't wait for the season to start so I can know.

  21. Jacob, seriously? Don't be deliberately obtuse. And please don't employ straw man arguments with me. Not saying 3-pt shooting is a prerequisite to play. Not saying 3-pt shooting is a prerequisite to start at each spot across the floor. I'm saying, on this year's team, where we appear to have options we didn't have last year, I think it's unlikely that a guy who doesn't shoot well from 3 is going to be able to pull down the starting job at the 2-guard spot. Last year, Taylor started 21 games. He basically took Jack McVeigh's starting spot at the 3 after about the first 10 games. You are not projecting Evan as a 3. You're projecting him as a 2. He wasn't a 2 last year; Tai Webster was. Glynn and Tai were the starting 1 and 2; Evan Taylor was the 3. Last year, we were a bad 3-point shooting team with limited options on our roster. I've detailed how basically only 8 players attempted 3-pt shots on the season and only one of them shot better than 35% and only 3 were better than 30%. Taylor was among the bottom 3 players on the team in 3-pt accuracy. He might have been able to come in and start at the 3 on a 12-win team that lacked shooters last year; I do NOT see him coming in and starting at the 2-guard spot this year -- on a team that appears to have options last year's didn't have -- if he's shooting less than 25% from 3. Mic dropped.
