  1. I wonder if we'd have a chance at getting the Ohio Bobcats head coach. I like his level of mediocrity better.

  2. Cook will come back with this team and win a bunch....Riley not so sure. Really looking forward to women's basketball season...think we have some "gamers" that are real competitors.

  3. Normally. If football falls apart, Miles may get a reprieve for this very reason

  4. But on the flip side, I had the thought pop into my head that if anyone is happy that football and SE are under the microscope, it's Tim and his guys because that shifts the torches and pitchfork talk away from them for foreseeable future.

    2018 recruiting

I doubt these guys stay for a full game nor really care who wins...overall it's 90k+ at the stadium plus all the bustle that goes along with it. It just reallllllllly sucks if you're a Husker fan.

    Next Years Starting 5

  9. Having athleticism and being able to play defense at the D-1 level are not the same thing. Also not sure what his shooting has to do with his defense.

  10. Here's how I'd handicap the race: NU: Playing time Georgetown: Close to home Georgia Tech and Josh Pastner: $$$$ (I'm sort of kidding)

  13. All I can do as I sit here reading these comments and reflecting on the game today is to thank my lucky stars that Tom Osborne isn't there to pick the next head coach. Man, if he was still around, I shudder to think that he might not have fired Bo. And we'd have probably struggled to win 9 games each of the last two years and we'd probably struggle to win no more than 9 games again this year. Nine wins, man. Husker fans won't tolerate that kind of mediocrity. TO just didn't seem to get that. We need to hire a real coach. Like Matt Biondi. Or Pat Sajak.

  14. the good thing is we aren't recruiting them to play football. you sell them with the big 10 conference and top facilities. and tell them they can learn as freshman behind glynn/copeland then start as sophomores.

    Nebraska Football 2017-2018

Cav should have been fIred at halftime. Worst position coach in the history of Husker football. None of this surprising. Need to cut the head off the snake and be done with the Perlman destruction of the athletic department. Shawn must go. No chance of moving forward until that happens.

    Serious question ...

After today I have only one question. "Is it basketball season yet?"

  17. I'm hoping for marked improvement in the WBB team this year - some potential there. MBB not so much. I honestly feel the FB team has 1 (maybe 2) more wins this season and that is it. Cook is in a rebuilding year IMO opinion and will be fine. Eichorst needs to be shown the door.

    Serious question ...

I still think it's largely going to come down whether or not we have a team that can rebound the basketball. Last year we missed 128 more shots than our opponents, and yet still outrebounded the opposition by 63 boards. That's pretty impressive, when you consider that NCAA-wide the offensive/defensive rebounding split was around 28%/72%. Morrow and Jacobson were tireless on the boards. Tai was a strong rebounder for a guy playing as a combo guard. Those three guys are gone. My fear is that we will be a significantly improved offensive team, but with a similar record due to no longer having an advantage on the glass.

    Serious question ...

How can you predict team chemistry? Will Miles come up with an offensive game plan? I cannot answer until I see the Huskers in action.

    Serious question ...

We should be better this year than last. What mostly hurt us last year was unbelievable opponent three-point shooting, a really tough non-con, a couple of stupid bad breaks, poor three-point shooting, and losing our top returning scorer. Will opponents shoot the three like they did last year? Not likely. I can't see it happening again that bad. Non-con? Still formidable, but not as tough. Bad breaks? We'll see. Three-point shooting? I think we've addressed that. Should be better. Losing our top scorer? Well we lost Webster to graduation, but we need some of the new players to step in and replenish the scoring. But here's my problem. From last year's team we lose Webster, Morrow, Jacobson, Horne, and Fuller. They are replaced with Copeland, Palmer, Allen, Akenten, and Okeke. In an "on paper" world, it looks like we are bringing in a better five. But this reminds me of an earlier thread where Norm asked when was the last time we had a legit lineup going into next season. I've been excited about lineups going into the next seasons for the past few years now, and this year's no exception. But just take last year. Even with us losing White, I thought we'd be really good because we had a true center, a solid core of sophomores, and new players like Tshimanga, Anton Gill, Roby, Horne. But Gill really struggled. I assumed he'd take up the transfer baton of Petteway and White before him. Roby showed flashes of greatness, but overall he played like a freshman. Very up and down. Same with Horne, only worse on defense. Tshimanga showed some promise, still had a long way to go. So what player expectations will not be met this year? I don't know, but it seems I'm always full of hope and excitement before the season starts, then reality sets in by way of how they actually play. Naturally it's too soon to know whether this team will be better than last year. It should be. But this year I can't bring myself to be too excited until I see how guys like Copeland and Allen and Palmer play. I just can't wait for the season to start so I can know.

  22. I think Palmer will start, but those completely counting Taylor out are wrong. Perimeter defense will be a premium this year. If your Miles and looking at Watson, Roby, Copeland, and Jordy as your other 4 starters, perhaps you start Taylor if his defense and toughness are significantly better than Palmer's. I think all 4 of those starters could average double-digits next year plus the combination of Allen/Jack/Palmer off the bench. I'm not predicting anything, I guess I'm just saying that having an offensive liability as a starter may not matter with this deep of team. Palmer may get you 11 and Even may get you 6 in a starting roll, but the perimeter defense may be more valuable. I think it's a moot point though as I think Palmer will start.

  23. You are correct, plug Copeland in at the 4 and slide Jack behind him. As for Taylor, his poor shooting doesn't mean he can't play shooting guard. It just means they have to get more creative on offense. If the inability to shoot 3s disqualifies you from playing or starting, then Nebraska would not have been able to field a full lineup the last few years.

  24. Agree with this a lot. I also think Allen was told he will get time at the point. For a smaller guard if he wants to keep playing he needs to develop his PG skills so I think he will get some minutes there. I like Taylor as a catch all who can guard 1-3 and hopefully get minutes as needed, ideally GW, Palmer, and Allen get most of the minutes and he fills in where needed.
