  1. Ha! There's only one person's opinion on Tim Miles that matters. He isn't posting on this board. He isn't listening to us. And none of us knows what he's thinking. Any of us on this board with an opinion on Miles's future job status (whether he stays or goes under any circumstances at the end of next season) has a 50% chance of being right. And it's always fun to speculate!

  2. in: allen, copeland, duby, palmer, thorir, nana out: ed, horne, jacobson, webster, fuller. i think the talent we brought in will at the very least be equal to what we lost. then if you factor in that watson, jordy, roby, and mcveigh will all be improved, we should expect to see more wins this year. miles needs to get to the NIT to keep his job in my opinion.

  3. It might be an obvious comparison, but I see a poor man's Ginobili all over the place with this guy. He's gonna make plays. I'm not sure he'll play this year, but he might be the purest 2-guard on the roster. I really like his motor from the film I see, and he has plenty of skill. I'd call him a 3* and easily a D1 prospect from what I've seen.

Rank the league's top 5 PGs

The nuance here is that MJ as a bench guy would be great and we absolutely want him on this team; MJ as a starter without a consistent inside post move or 3pt shot isn't going to cut it as our starting 4/5 if we want to make the tourney. So yes we really miss him and no we won't miss him aren't necessarily contradictory statements.

  5. Well I can only see four schools but am guessing that school in northern Omaha must have made the list given the bluebird fan talking smack on his twitter feed.

  6. Best upgrade I can do given my location, is to move closer to TV given my eyesight is getting worse (almost to officiating level now!)

  8. I'm going on record once again saying I think the discussion of how warm his seat is will be a moot issue because we're going to kick ass this year. We're not going to be debating Miles' job status when we're watching for where we're seeded on selection Sunday.

  9. Editing the OP to show the difference: So, in answer to your question, yeah, this roster is more experienced. Mostly in terms of the bench. Numbers of years' experience for the starters is basically the same, but for the reserves, we go from three freshmen and a sophomore to one freshman, a junior and two seniors. And where, before, the front line consisted of an undersized Rivals 4-star and an undersized, unranked 3-star, we now have a lengthy Rivals 5-star and a very sizable Rivals 150 member. And Jr./So. instead of So./So., so there's that as well. It's obviously not just possible but likely that the actual starters and bench are different than what I've suggested above. If a freshman, though, beats out an upper classman, that's actually a good thing, right? It means that one of our unknown quantities was able to leapfrog a more known quantity, which means the whole is probably better than what we thought it would be. Oh, and we can actually bring guards off the bench.

  10. A lot of people didn't think he was very good while he was still here. Just check the game threads. Some people didn't think he was great but didn't want to bag on a current player and so did subtle things like not projecting him in next year's starting lineup. But when he left, all bets were off.

  11. I see they split the difference and went with 6' 5".

  12. With the exception that the number of posts that I accumulated since the dawn of time are still MIA, everything looks grand

  13. I'd say he often looked like a guy used to executing elite athlete type moves that his body wasn't allowing him to make. He shot 33% at the rim for the season as the dude couldn't finish.

  14. Ageism matters here though. At the end of the day it's a slight benefit to us if we have the brand that is popular to 15-18 year old elite athletes.

  15. At the very least, he was a big help with perimeter defense because of his quickness. But, yeah, he was a total roller coaster on the offensive end.

  16. He was shooting 38% from the floor in the last 4 games before he got hurt, that included Creighton and Kansas. So it looked like that was starting to come around. He'd shown some of the explosiveness we'd heard about, too. He never put together a great game, but he had spurts within those last four where it looked like he was getting close to full speed again.

  17. Coach Miles mentioned the connection of J.P. to T.P., in fact.

  19. It is always fun to speculate. There's going to be lots of opinions about Miles' job status going into and throughout the season. There are going to be many experts claiming to know an exact win total that is needed to stay aboard. I don't subscribe to that channel. Nobody knows. The man making the decision probably doesn't even know. It's not that simple. But yes Miles needs wins. I don't have any inside knowledge but I currently speculate that Miles' job status is much more solidified (at the moment) with those that matter than most fans believe. I say 'at the moment' because anything can happen including another losing season. I don't think this is as simple a hitting a win total. It's going to depend on what is seen with the eyes. I dont think we were as bad as our record last year. Through a good chunk of the season we were competitive in every game. Of course you can't just ignore the end of the season either. Say we land a solid 2018 class. Say we see with our eyes a competitive team that has multiple building blocks, difference makers, and potential. They look like they are truly going somewhere and have plus momentum but only achieve a .500 record. Then what? I know at some point (I think we've reached it) that wins have to be tallied, but are we (Is Eichorst) just going to cut the cord at that point? I wouldn't think so.

  20. I guess I understand comparing JP to TP, but just looking from the outside in, I think there are apparent differences. TP had the ball the majority of the time, that will likely not happen with JP. TP was our number one option when the offense broke down, I do not think that is going to be the case with JP. JP seems to a more powerful player than TP. TP seems to be quicker. I may be totally off base, but I to me JP seems more like Shavon than TP.

  21. Sorry to dredge this up again, but I can't stand the bagging on guys who leave. One minute they're great, then they're awful. Yeah, MJ averaged 6 and 6. But he was a sophomore, so maybe his numbers improve too? Iowa State is a much better program than us and they took him, even though "he just isn't that good." THANK YOU.

  22. For the starters, I just went with who started the most, notwithstanding that there was some fluctuation in starting lineup. For bench, I've listed them in order of number of minutes played. A couple of things stand out to me: Last year, not only were we young in our starting lineup (average 2.6 seasons), but our bench was extremely young (average 1.25 seasons during conference play for all intents and purposes.) Last year, we started 3 guards (Watson, Webster, Taylor) and had no guards to bring off the bench in conference play. Not a single one. In spite of which, these sonsabitches were 3-1 in conference (with two road wins) until Ed Morrow got hurt. And the wheels kinda fell off from there on out. Kinda puts last season in a little bit of perspective for me at least.
