I'm confused...and scared: The official Update Thread
BigTate and 3 others reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
Actually, Jimmy, it's far more sinister. It has to do with the Bilderbergs and the tri-lateral commission, and their attempts at world domination, which all funnels through HHC. Seth Rich, who was from Omaha and attended Creighton University on a rowing scholarship, had leaked top secret recruiting information from this site to a bunch of pizza restaurants on the east coast in an effort to undermine the ascendance of Nebraska basketball under Tim Miles. I'd tell you what PIZZA stands for but I don't wanna get killed. Anyway, the Bilderbergs' kids fell in love with the inflatable Lil' Red mascot back in the 1990s and so ... Wait a sec, there's someone knocking at my door ...4 points -

Hey Jimmy, how about next time you prognosticate the addition of a couple of 5* from Chicago or something?3 points

And let us not forget, old Jimmy predicted the addition of both a giant from Brazil, and an a sleeper from Iceland to Nebraska rosters on April 1 prognostications many years ago. You can look it up.3 points

Here's the money quote from Washut: "Thorbjarnarson should also be an immediate factor for the Huskers in 2017-18." That's pretty high praise and I wonder what he bases that on. Is that something Miles told him or is that based on what he sees in video and stats? Or did a Rivals recruiting analyst evaluate him and give Washut that impression? I have no idea. I like the pickup but that's a bolder statement than even I would have been willing to make.2 points -
Well I am now officially sold. This team needs a basketball fairy. Please oh please let this fairy bring us an NCAA tourney win!2 points

I was in Iceland a few years ago and saw a number of Domino's Pizza advertisements featuring the 'Noid (a common ad campaign here in the US back in the '80s). The signature food of Iceland is hotdogs. Seriously. 3/4s of the Icelandic population is in the Reykjavik area and the other side of island is only a few hours away. I was there in November, and found it in the 40s-50s. Tons of tourism there (probably its top revenue). Icelandic Air figured out that it was about ~5-6 hours from both the US eastern seaboard and Europe. People flying between the US and Europe will break up their travel with a 24 hour layover in Iceland. Culture may not be as big of a deal as you may think. One very interesting tidbit. A good percentage of the population believes in fairies.2 points

I just don't think he's good enough and won't be good enough. I'm not sure he has the work ethic to improve ENOUGH to play at a Power 5 level. He's not the greatest teammate and seems to have a bit of a me first attitude ... that isn't fair to say I guess ... I should say he seems to allow his fear to get in the way of competing at the highest level he could. He tends to get in foul trouble because he tries to block EVERYTHING. And he has received a lot of technical fouls, often at inopportune times. It's almost like he takes himself out of games because he fears his best isn't good enough. His post up game is a bit non-existent. He tends to roam around the floor a bit too much for someone his size, but that may be because he was trying to prove he has range to recruiters. I just don't see any level of dominance at his level of play currently, especially on offense. Don't get me wrong, I can see all the potential. He can get up and down the floor well for his size and has great length and height and there's a lot of room for improvement ... which are all good things. His lack of weight has led him to be a bit passive on offense and he really laid an egg last year in the state tourney. He looked disengaged from the game and a bit scared of the moment. The team seemed to play better when he was off the floor during that state game. I hope I'm wrong if he ends up coming here, but it seems like a bad choice to offer him imho. Maybe he's really improved since I saw him during the year? Word is he held one of the top big man recruits in Vegas to a reasonable number of points and that's what helped lead to getting more offers of late. Basically Creighton isn't sure they have space for him next year as of right now, so they want him to go to a Prep School or the like. Let's see how he responds to that because Creighton is his school of choice all things being equal. He's a bright kid, so academics aren't going to be an issue.2 points -

Watched the first half (skipping the parts where Thor wasn't in the game) of the FIBA European U20 Champs earlier this summer where Iceland played the Germans. Several observations: 1. Some people were concerned about the level of competition he was playing. These German dudes are good with guys like Mo Wagner from Michigan and a guy who played at St. John's before becoming a Euro pros and some other German pros who could have probably played D1 in the U.S. 2. The offense they're running on the U20 team featured a 7 footer who was the primary target of their half-court offensive sets. Thor is basically playing with the older kids here and he's no longer the focus of the offense. The way he's being utilized might explain his bad 3-pt shooting numbers in this particular tournament. 3. I still see him pushing the ball in transition and he still was running the floor very fast. He also drives with his right hand and was attacking the rim, so fear not that he can only use his left hand. 4. Defense needs work. But then, this was a national team playing in a tournament at a level above where he's used to playing, and so he's not playing with the guys he's used to playing with nor playing a role he's used to playing. That probably has an effect. 5. I think he'll make the transition to D1 and I think he's worthy of a Power 5 conference scholarship. Not saying he's a lottery pick or that he'll be in the starting lineup the moment he reaches campus. I'm just saying he looks to be the part of a D1 scholarship recruit. I don't think he's the reach that some on here might fear.2 points -
We probably just had to show him a weather report and our uniforms and he was N.2 points

Compared to what he could have had assuming he held an offer from his other "Top 5." I am not saying that it's underwhelming that Nebraska didn't make the list. Sure, it was nice to get rid of Tulsa and Houston off of the first top 5 list. Why leave Purdue and Creighton off that list? In favor of ASU... or a decent Mid-Major... Like I said, not saying Nebraska should have been on the list. However, I am thinking that some of those schools on there are pretty underwhelming compared to what he could have had. Considering that he held a true offer.1 point

http://www.theindependent.com/sports/huskers_hq/thorbjarnarson-commits-to-tim-miles-huskers/article_ce7a08be-7bc2-11e7-8651-bb92f7808f08.html Thorbjarnarson, who goes by Thor, is immediately eligible and will enroll when the fall semester starts Aug. 21. Though his recruitment appeared sudden, sources said Nebraska had been tracking Thorbjarnarson for months through the work of Ali Farokhmanesh, who was NU’s director of player relations and now is an assistant at Drake. Farokhmanesh played four years of pro ball overseas. Also: DraftExpress offered this analysis after the July tournament: “After turning in tremendous U18 performances in 2016 and 2015, Thorbjarnarson struggled a bit at the U20 level, having issues scoring efficiently in the half court. He struggled to finish over superior size and length. “He’s at his best when he’s playing with the ball, getting downhill out of a pick and roll. He has great body control, floater finishes and some creativity as the primary ball-handler. He’s competitive and fairly skilled despite being a very inconsistent jump shooter. Defensively, he has quick hands and excellent instincts even though he’s not overly long or physical. “He has value as a mid-major slashing, playmaking wing who could become really valuable if the program that takes him is able to turn him into a more reliable shooter than what he showed at this event.’’1 point -

Whatever happens with Copeland, I will be cheering on the huskers and look forward to seeing what improvements the rest of the team has made from last year. Obviously we would all love to have him eligible form the start of the season, but either way I think we have an improved group of talented young guys and I am excited to see what they can do this year! I think Roby, Jordy and Glynn are the core of our team and the addition of the new guys and some other players that have been here for a few years will make for a great season! I know some on this board think we have to make the big dance or the season is lost. Personally I would love to see that happen, but if we can make a deep run in the NIT I would be very happy with that too. I guess what I am saying is Go Big Red!1 point -

Hmmmm. Intriguing his physical attributes look good and he can fill up a stat line in a lot of different ways. (Check out those steal numbers). It does look like he can disappear in games and might struggle adjusting to the level of competition, kinda like Tai did early on. But the kid has got some swagger in his game. Plus how fun would it be to hear Kent call some of his dunks?!? I'm hoping he becomes the best Icelandic athlete since Gunnar Stahl.1 point -
