You don't have to look back much further than Ed Morrow's physicality between year one coming off that leg injury where he would finish shooting layups and year two where he was dunking everything to be able to imagine how much more aggressive Roby will be this year vs last year.4 points

Although, from Andre's perspective, he probably would have liked to have gotten a green light to shoot threes because it would have reduced by about 25% the distance he had to run to get back on D. That shaves off about 42 feet every round trip; that adds up.3 points -

Once again I'll bring up the fact that his father was a college athlete as pointing toward him being at least a Div 1 contributor vs a guy who never develops at this level.2 points

I think I'll inject something now, i.e. that Barfy did well to remind us of Roby's stress fracture last year. Not only does playing with pain make development difficult, but returning from injury tends to make one play tentatively. With that considered, perhaps we should all not be so surprised with the "disappointing" freshman performance by Mr. Roby..2 points

My own humble look at star expectation: 5 star - immediate starter, immediate impact 4 star - start as freshman or sophomore, impact as a sophomore 3 star - starter at least by junior year, impact late junior year or senior 2 star - start as a senior more so a role player2 points -

Ah, yes, the "appeal to the stone" fallacy (i.e., "I don't have an argument, so I'm just going to call someone else's comment absurd.") Also, a version of what I like to call the Fireswamp Fallacy: something is impossible or improbable (Jordy having the ability to hit treys) just because you've never seen it done before. Ah, yes, the fallacy of relative privation. He shouldn't spend time on this because there are other, more important things for him to be doing. Of course, there always are. By the way, until the polar ice caps stop melting, I don't see how you have time to spend on this board. Wouldn't you agree that saving the planet is more important than debating basketball? Well, then, get moving. Humanity is depending on it. Anyway, three logical fallacies in a 3 paragraph post. Nicely done.2 points -

2017-18 Transfer list
Norm Peterson reacted to rwhiston for a topic
It seems like a low-risk option as we have two scholarships available for this coming season. Going into the 2018-2019 season we would still have 5 available scholarships for recruiting purposes. The big question marks is if Whitman would mesh well with the current roster and scheme Nebraska has this year. Jack and Roby are gonna play the 4 more often along with Copeland (whenever he is available) to stretch the floor a bit more. I guess if you want him to help add depth to a "big lineup" that could help especially since Jordy and Duby are known for getting into foul trouble. I just don't want us to mess with what appears to be a cohesive unit because we added an extra piece.1 point -
Seems like its been said the last few years but it's been 20 years since we had a team with this type of talent from top to bottom on it.1 point

You see that last dunk by Duby? He was still going up when he threw that thing down. That's some ups. For those wondering how good touching 140 inches is, it means he could dunk on an 11 ft rim with a two-foot standing takeoff. OK? See that first shot by Glynn? Textbook. Absolute perfect balance going up off the dribble. Guys can spend a career trying to develop that and never have it; Glynn comes by it naturally. Isaiah? They didn't even show his best highlights. Maybe the video coordinator was too busy with his new DOBO responsibilities to cut tape from the Indiana game. Evan Taylor can go left or right (look at the film). Plays really solid D. If he can get his shot to drop more consistently, there's no reason why he shouldn't be in the discussion to start. I'm totally serious. We have two freshmen who can bust a zone. Whoever was worried about Nana having a slow release should watch that film above. I love Jordy, and he's shown he can drive to his left. Ideally, he needs to be able to spin counter clockwise off that move and go to his right hand. That's not a tough move to learn. Nothing like Glynn shooting off the dribble. And Jordy should be able to get the footwork down just by repetition and practice. I'm geeked. That's all.1 point -

And there's the ol' straw man argument. Wondered when he'd surface. No, I don't think it's a waste of time for Jordy to shoot threes. He's obviously not doing it during any scrimmaging or group coach time. If he wants to go to the gym and shoot some three balls, I'm all for it. The better he gets shooting threes, the better he'll be shooting 10-15 footers. And if he can develop that 3-point shot to where it's a usable weapon, there will be PLENTY of opportunities for him to use it. One of Jordy's jobs in Miles' offense is to come out and set high ball screens. From there, he can either roll to the basket or pop. Like Jacobson used to try to do. And you can try to differentiate between Jacobson's role as a "forward" and Jordy's role as a "center" but in reality they'd pretty much be doing the same thing. Edited to state: I should have said "I don't think it's a waste of time for Jordy to PRACTICE shooting threes."1 point -

And Jordy is very much that unicorn (which is why he won't shoot very many [if any] threes in his career). If he does hoist one, he'll be the first one to do so in six years.1 point -

So, your logic says that it's not a waste of time for Jordy to practice shooting threes because Pitchford and Jacobson (both listed as forwards, unlike Jordy, who is a center) shot threes. My logic says it is a waste of time for Jordy to spend time working on that shot because there is no call for him to shoot it (and, yes, he has other things to work on a bit closer to the basket). I took a look at some numbers. Centers (on Huskers.com rosters) in Miles' Nebraska career: Player/Career threes shot-taken under Miles. Andre Almeida/0-0 https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/andre-almeida-1.html Jordy T/0-0 http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4066393/jordy-tshimanga Moses Abraham/0-0 http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/51318/moses-abraham Sergej V/0-0 https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/sergei-vucetic-1.html *Kye Kurkowski/0-0 https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/kye-kurkowski-1.html Have power forwards chucked up the three under Miles? Of course (some of them in bunches). But, so far as I can tell, no player who has logged any minutes listed as a center on the roster during Miles' tenure at Nebraska has ever shot a three. Not one. This isn't even taking into consideration Jacob Hammond (who many thought was the first true center Nebraska had recruited in several years) as Huskers.com has him listed as a forward...but he was 0-0 as well, or Ed Morrow (who was also listed as a forward but spent most of his time as a Husker playing the center position) who also went 0-0. Miles' system at Nebraska has a history of forwards shooting threes, but centers have no such claim. Unless you think he is a forward, there is no history (that I can find) that would dictate the need for Jordy, as the center he is, to shoot threes in this offense. It has literally never happened. Considering the total lack of centers shooting three pointers under Miles (based on roster position), it is laughable to think his center should spend time shooting the shot. You said earlier, "Yeah, because there's never been any opportunity for a big man in Miles' system to shoot treys." What you thought was hyperbole actually couldn't be more true if we're talking about guys who are listed as centers under Miles at Nebraska. And I don't think I ever hinted that it's either impossible or improbable for Jordy to make a three. I simply said he wasn't going to shoot them in Miles' offense (because he plays a different position from the two guys you mentioned). Heck, I've seen the guy make one; the day he signed his LOI he posted a video of himself hitting one from deep. So, yes, it is clearly possible for him to make the shot; there's simply no history of guys in his position under Miles even shooting one in a game, let alone making one. *Kurkowski was listed as a center for 12-13 and a forward for 13-14.1 point
