  1. I'll take this one. He & the staff are meticulous teachers and game-planners, who demand maximum effort & attention to detail. There is nice balance between those expectations and acknowledging and/or critiquing performance. That creates a standard that, in turn, creates pride and improvement in team. That's how I've seen it. I've always been impressed and even motivated myself by being able to hang around a lot. Believe me, the vibe is spot-on.

  2. Contrary to what others have said or believe, I actually like how the 2018 recruiting class is coming together. Sure we need a big girl or two but that's what we need as of right now for this upcoming season. As far as I can tell this 2018 class has touched on the positions that will be critical two years from now and going forward from that season. We got one of our future big's out of Minnesota in Kayla Mershon 6'3 ProspectNation has her at a 4-Star and the 86th best player in the class. ESPN has her pegged as the 9th best post this coming year. Ashlyn Verbeek 6'2 (whom I'm really high on and many east of the Missouri River are now saying she could most likely the best player to come out of Iowa next season,) is playing with the All Iowa Attack this summer and is getting exposed to recruiting services, thus ESPN has given her a 4-Star rating and has her ranked now as the 5th best post in the nation and 50th best player in the whole class. ProspectNation has finally got her ranked as 3-1/2 Star Leigha Brown 6'1 hasn't been in front of too many recruiting services but from videos I've seen she's deadly from behind the arc. And her coaches are stressing that she's an excellent rebounder. For a team that has slipped to dismal debts lately, those three alone should come into NU in pretty good shape and improve the team going forward. I think there's room for another verbal in this class, but we'll just have to wait and see.

  9. That's okay we are going to run those fat big girls to death these next few years. Can't rebound or play much D when your only at half court. Didn't we see that somewhere this year...

I don't buy that we have bigger needs either. We need talent period. We got our back up center in Duby. We've addressed outside shooting with Nana and Allen and Allen can probably play backup point as well. At this point...you find the best you can get. And this guy is pretty darned good. It'd be a hell of a catch if Miles can land him
    2 points
  11. They can both play the 2 or 3. Not to mention the only guys at the wing are now upper classmen besides Nana. You don't turn down Top 60 players with the offer sheet he has when you win 12-13 games a year

  14. We'll see this next year if that's Coaches philosophy. We're going to be real guard heavy, so it pretty much has to be run and gun. Will be interesting to see if we have enough numbers... skilled enough... to be able to run all game long. But we will have more experience than this last year for sure. We do have to rebound on the defensive end...so can we do it ?? Rebuilding.....what a pain

I meant recruiting players at a much higher level than RCJ. Players you compete in the Big 10 with. No offense to the young lady, who plays with good effort, but she isn't a Power 5 athlete or player. Never gonna be. And we have guards as good as her (and better if the transfers reputation is even close to deserved) to put on the floor. What we don't have is any proven post players. If we continue to be a bottom dweller, it will have nothing to do with not offering RCJ. It will be because this staff in the short term didn't add any inside players, and in the long term, just doesn't have the contacts and recruiting chops to get it done at this level. Now, there's still time to prove they do. But the early returns are troublesome, and the whole thing was a reach in the first place by our AD.

  19. Plan A. - Turn every D'Leons into a hotel....enough full service 24/7 authentic mexican hotels to do whatever we want - Host Super Bowl - Hope this is enough to show Omaha that they're not so hot after all. Plan B. Foul Justin Patton every time down the court

Thanks Kent. Good stuff! I attended a lot of practices for both Danny and Doc. Both of those coaches were tough on the players. I remember seeing Ryan crying on the baseline as a freshman and being chastised about the tears and his lack of effort. There were practices where I almost slipped under my seat because I was either terrified, scared or embarrassed by what was happening in front of my eyes. There were reasons why players tried to boycott Danny.

This guy has been recruited by a ton of other schools up until this point. It'd be amazing to see him even mention us this late in the game. Unless Allen saved his family from a burning building, he's not coming here.

At this point it comes down to recruiting. I am absolutely amazed that there seems to be no news on the spring 2017 signing period, when we desperately need bodies; particularly bigs. Even if we didn't account for Shepherd leaving, we should have been targeting Jucos, graduate transfers, and high school players who didn't sign in November, for months. Maybe they'll pull a rabbit out of the hat, but it is already May. If there were no stop gap measures being taken, it was simply a choice to tank another couple of seasons (the 2018 verbals so far aren't the type to immediately come in and get you a lot of wins; they will need experience). So far we have signed zero 4/5 players who would be eligible in 2017-18, despite having a year to do so. Very concerning.

Take the time to read the book Nebrasketball. Scott Winter gives a pretty good look into it. He's tough as hell and brutally honest in practice. In smaller groups in public or private he's pretty much what you see on the stage.

  45. I don't think whether she can be trusted or not should have anything to do with it. These are the decisions any head coach and their staff make when you're at a power 5 division 1 school. Not everyone will agree with them but they're trying to do what's best for their program.

  46. Well, first of all, Michael Lewis hasn't been *at* Indiana in 15 years. The dawn of the Social Media Era had not yet taken hold. The "this is nuts" would certainly be applicable to the Hoosier hoops fandom, and increasingly the gridiron IU crowd even.
