  1. I think this is a really smart get. This kid is a freak athlete and does nothing but make spark plays (eye opening dunks and blocks). There are going to be games where he makes one or two of those and it starts a run for us. Talk about a spark plug, and a GREAT look in practice against Jordy.

  2. i have to get this off my chest. This site is the best place for me to be even when we are picking on each other like family does. The real reason I say that is and I don't want to sound to morbid but I got the call this morning that my Mom who has been in hospice for the last month was most likely not going to make it through the day. They were right. She passed this afternoon around 2ish and after all the whirl wind stopped I checked here because I needed to go somewhere else but couldn't leave the room. First thing I see is that we get Allen. and I start to read the different reactions and I am now crying because I am laughing so hard. Thanks guys for making my world "normal" for this little bit of my day. "Boom goes the dynomite!"

Multiple tweets are indicating that Duby is now a Husker. Welcome to the fold young man. This provides depth in the post! Now we can turn to a PF and a sniper. Things are truly looking much better.

Word is they were going to announce this on 4/20, but thought better of it.

  6. I get what you are saying. Personally, I believe that Duby's ceiling and basement has nothing to do with how much we will win or lose next year. He will not make or break our year. We have the pieces needed to win, so this signing is just adding a bit of depth.

  7. So he takes up a scholarship for a year. If he ends up a bust, he is a big body and it is better than signing someone like Vooch who is a major project.

  9. He is Winthrop's all time leading sot blocker, and blocks are very prominent in the highlight tape of his that I saw. Should provide some valuable depth down low, especially on the defensive end.

  10. Don't necessarily need him to replace Ed, just nice to have a big body to spell Jordy. He'll rebound and defend and give Jordy some much needed rest.

  17. I just think an extension would've been premature, pretentious, and dishonest at this point in Miles' tenure. Miles hasn't earned it, so Eichorst didn't give him one. I don't think it's about belief. I think there is a very basic agreement in place that will eventually have to come down to wins. I don't particularly want an AD in place who throws money around based on beliefs. Having said this, Miles has completely transformed the recruiting culture of Nebraska and the level of athlete we're expecting to step out onto the court. I think that's where the leniency has been to this point. Now those players are upperclassmen. Time to show he can coach. I'm pulling for him, and I think Eichorst is, too, or else TM would've been canned after this past season. Field at least a bubble team next year and I'd be shocked if the extension doesn't happen.

  22. Holy cow. Robin posted a pic on twitter of Duby blocking a shot. The guy has his elbow above the rim. Impressive Totally okay with this get. We need depth in the post. And there's not a lot of options this late in the game. Worse case scenario he doesn't do much and his scholarship is back on the market for next year.

Please don't forget the increased potential of drawing fouls on a dribble-drive vs perimeter, and hence the possibilities for 3-point plays (i.e. Vance Walberg's Coaches Clinic Tutorial).

  31. aphilso1 your questions cannot be answered until the roster is set and practices start. As much as we can project our "expertise" or feelings, there are unknowns. Yet there are not many college programs across the country that can accurately answer many of their own questions either. We still could add three more players to a pretty solid core of current players. Who are those three players, and what will be there strengths? It remains a mystery; yet the player that we picked up yesterday will likely help...a lot.

  33. Evan is a solid player who can/will contribute. What that role will be, will be determined when this team is assembled and practices begin. Evan is a glue player, and a leader. This team will need him.

I'm with you. I though Evan was the only player on our team that actually got better during our end of season meltdown, while everyone else's game went down the toilet. I think he will be a decent outside shooter for us next year. And now that Ed and Michael have exited stage left, I'm guessing Evan is the front runner to be team captain. All those things put together tell me that he's got the inside track to be a starter.

I am in a minority but I like what Evan Taylor produces. He needs to be a consistent scoring option to go along with his rebounding and defensive abilities.

  36. And, by the way, just to add to those last thoughts, I get the sense that, if push came to shove, Tanner Borchardt could give us some quality minutes off the bench, 5-10 per game.

Speaking of Sam Hill....one of the meanest, orneriest, and funniest signs I ever saw at the Devaney - "Where the Sam Hill did you get those ears?". At a game vs Iowa State, who had a player named Sam Hill ( who happened to have some pretty big ears ).

  41. With the addition of Nana and Thomas joining Roby, Glynn, Copeland, Gill, Evan, et al, I am hoping for an eraser in the paint...we seem to be gearing up to be a wide open team, meaning we will take chances on defense, if so, we require a couple of bigs that can erasing mistakes. This guy seems to fit that to a T.

  42. Finally watched the highlights. He is much better than I would have anticipated. He wouldn't be all that much worse than Morrow IMO. He isn't a black hole turnover machine at least. Better shotblocker. If we can get him playing as a high energy defender offensive rebounder off the bench, I am okay with him. We just need to scotch tape this together this season while we regroup. He is a really good get to serve that purpose IMO.

    Offseason Potpourri

It's a fair question. When the season first ended I thought he handled it well by getting in front of it right after the last game. At that same time, he said he would talk about it "after the final 4". In the time that passed between our last game and the final 4, a lot in the program changed (at least as viewed from the outside). The transfers changed the entire offseason dialogue. There were rumors swirling everywhere about more transfers, coaching changes, etc. Maybe it was wrong of everyone to assume that "after the final 4" meant immediately after (like that week) but especially with all of the noise about the state of the program it was either very calculated or very tone-deaf of the AD to not address the media. Even another simple tweet like "disappointed with the transfers but the future is bright under Coach Miles" would have quieted a lot of the noise. IMO, Eichorst is a smart guy and knew exactly what he was doing by not speaking about the program. He made the coaching staff's jobs even harder on the recruiting front and just fed the rumor machine. A more cynical person might think he was purposefully trying to make Miles flame out so he can hire "his guy" as soon as possible. So to answer your question "But what more are you looking for from the AD in terms of Tim Miles leading our team? What does Eichorst really owe us?" - a LOT changed since that one tweet and as the leader of a multi-million $ organization with a very active and interested stakeholder base he owes us what he promised - an update. A timely update would be even better. One thing to add, I've been a big supporter of Miles over the years. I'm now firmly on the fence on whether he can be successful. My issue with how this has been handled has nothing to do with being a "Miles guy" or a "fire Miles guy". It has EVERYTHING to do with being a die-hard Nebrasketball fan that wants to see an AD act like he wants us to be successful.

  46. Here's the real clincher with this kid: Getting him would be like recruiting Brady Michael Jacobsernst straight outta high school and getting 5 seasons of eligibility out of him. They were the same year in HS from the same state. MJ comes here for 2 years and transfers. Ernst would come in next season, be immediately eligible, and have 3 more seasons to play. MJ goes to wherever he goes and he'll have to sit out a year. Ernst already sat his year but sat it for someone else. I have my fingers totally crossed.

Potentially even a bigger factor than how many guys prefer to score at the rim vs. the perimeter, is how many guys are more comfortable on the ball vs. off the ball offensively. Using our end of year starting lineup, Tai and Glynn were far more dangerous with the ball in their hands. Taylor also was a guy that didn't wow me off the ball. Jordy did some nice work to position himself in the post, but usually still needed a dribble or two to put himself in a comfortable shooting situation. Jacobson too. Coming off the bench, we did have three guys who were skilled offensively off the ball: a streaky catch and shoot guy (McVeigh), a pick and roll guy with loads of starting experience (Morrow), and a guy who showed a knack for finding open spots on the floor via back cuts (Roby). Using what seems to be the most commonly accepted starting lineup, we're more balanced as far as who needs the ball in their hands to maximize their effectiveness. Projected starters, with how I perceive their strength: Glynn (on-ball) Nana (off) / Palmer (on) Roby (balanced) Copeland (off) Jordy (off...assuming some improvement over the summer) Granted, I had to make some pretty big assumptions here, since I've only seen highlight videos of Nana, Palmer, and Copeland. Their skill sets could very well be substantially different than how I perceive them. But at least from a first glance, it appears that we've now got more guys comfortable working the offense without the rock in their hands. Which is good.

  48. Depends on which guy you might get. 2015-16 looks an awful lot like Ed on paper. Shot blocker with some post moves and what looks to be no injury history? This guy would be a great backup for Jordy. If someone has some tape on him getting a few rebounds and holding onto the ball for 3 Mississippis then I'm thinking Moses.
