I lurk on quite a few boards and one thing I've noticed about our fanbase is that it likes to be patted on the back and told that it is a good fan base. Seems weird to me.

Cager this isn't directed specifically at you but at the general comparison between Indiana and Nebraska basketball. The difference is in tradition. The more appropriate example is between Indiana Basketball and NU football. Nebraska is arguably the worst power 5 college basketball team. We've been watching the world go by us for the better part of our history save for a short period in the '90's. The question is will pushing the reset button for the 4th time since the turn of the century make things any better? Will we be hurt long term by staying the course? Seems to be a Sophie's choice.

Exactly. It does not matter the team... If things are going good, you love the coach. If things are going bad, you want something new.

  7. That and he's being recruited by some true blue bloods... Here's to hoping we can successfully pitch immediate playing time and the chance to do something that's never been done before.

Thanks for backing up the point I made earlier in the thread. However, I did not want to equate Bob Devaney with Branch McCracken or Tom Osborne to Robert Montgomery Knight. There is only so far a point can be stretched.

by the way, about six weeks ago, most Michigan fans would have had pretty heated arguments with anyone that tried to tell them their team was "well coached"...

  13. I am disappointed that the article didnt mention Grace Mitchell. She didn't get the minutes of those mentioned, but I thought effort was always evident and her play was always solid. She was usually guarding bigger opponents but i thought that she often out worked them. I look forward to seeing her contributions in years to come

  14. I don't know how many D1 programs you figured there are in the 7 states you listed, but by my calculations, there are currently 50 teams that are still alive in the various post-season tournaments (32 NCAA, 6 NIT, 4 CBI, 8 CIT) and only two of those 50 teams are from the 7 states you mentioned. Only one team from those 7 states survived the opening weekend of the NCAA tournament. By the way, does any of this data prove anything? Husker Fever, I have no idea how the data you produced supports your conclusion that "[t]he idea that we can't recruit good players because of our geography, weather, etc. is absolutely ridiculous."

These stories are written AFTER a coach is fired to humanize him, especially if the coach was generally liked. Nebraska media likes to take a scorched earth or indifference approach towards the coach as they walk out the door. Nebraskans want to feel good about firing a coach, and thus they tend to trash them and make stuff up that isn't true about the coaches character or personal life so that the firing seems justified. Nebraska Nice.

I can't help but think of this Michigan team as a UCONNesque type team we saw a few years ago.

  17. hear ya! the powers that be never opened up the indoor places during summer to play. we had to play on a outdoor tennis court that had a hoop on one of the end zones-----it had a chain link net. or, we could play on someones driveway.

  18. Wouldn't mind looking at some of the Washington Huskies Signees for this coming year. With their coach getting fired 2 of them already got their release. Was a top 5 recruiting class.

  20. Washut has an article this morning the headline for which says (paraphrased) despite his recruiting heating up, Huskers still holding strong. Hmmm. Interesting. If they can swing this kid, it would be gigantic. (Notice I didn't say YUGE?) I said it before, but this kid is frickin' good.

This is a team that is the opposite of us. They use the 3 point line well and understand the importance of defending it. They understand how to develop players. They become better shooters over time. They are well coached. They get better in relation to the competition throughout the season. They are good. All things I want is to be. They are one of the blueprints I would like to try to emulate. Coach is not only awesome but also an awesome individual.

  22. It's probably more like Tarin Smith or Andrew White or Horne though; Good enough kid that you have to manage because they and/or their parents are difficult. FWIW on Brown the coach who he signed to play for was Brad Stevens who took the Celtic's job a month before he started his freshman year. He, like a lot of guys on that team, transferred out that April. We run an offense perfect for his skills. He would be a star here. We would have to sell him that we will win and I don't know that we can.

  23. Better idea... Miles and staff are standing in a line at MHK when her arrives. They are standing right next to Husker One with a scholarship in hand. They invite him onto our own personal plane and wine and dine him the rest of the weekend where he commits without taking that visit to OSU. Whaaaaa!?!?! OK I'm awake, I'm awake!!

  27. Sunday morning "IF" ing. If Taylor picks up the game quickly, if Nicea and Hannah make a nice frosh to soph jump, if Maddie keeps improving, if Jess keeps working hard, if Rachel is healthy, and, if the transfers can take the pressure off Hannah and help shore up the defense and turnover issues, we could have vastly improved team next year. Call me optimistic, but I could see it happening.

  28. Im hoping for the same as well idk if I actually posted this or not but he should have red shirted. He was not physically ready which I believe caused him to struggle and have confidence issues. But I've seen this story before It was pretty much the exact same with his freshman yr of highschool as far as his play and development and kinda team as a whole. Idk how this translates to college but sophomore yr they won a regional title ? Im expecting big things next yr

If I'm Indiana, I'm not leaving the state for this next hire. My first phone call is to Indianapolis to see if the Butler A.D. wants to get back into coaching.

  30. Not an apologist just tired of the coaching carousel. It is killing our program. We will never get out of this cycle if we continue to fire coaches. If Miles is fired we will once again be looking for the next up and coming mid-major coach. There will be mass defections which will set us back at least 4yrs if not longer. At some point Conveniently left out rebounding, scoring, assists, blocks and steals. I wonder why? Let me help you out. They were all improved with fewer games played. 4 of the 5 of those are hustle and intelligence plays. So he's doing more than crushing it in practice and meeting rooms.

We have to have the worst fanbase in the entire nation. We "make stuff up" about coaches character AFTER they are fired. We only fill up the PBA to 15K or so for a losing team. Some fans have the nerve to leave basketball games early when we are down 16 points with four minutes left. And last but not least, we take offense to a coach telling us to kiss his arse out the door and "FU." Woe is me

That is a bunch of bs. "Most" Michigan fans know now and knew then that they have an excellent coach.
