  1. Im hoping for the same as well idk if I actually posted this or not but he should have red shirted. He was not physically ready which I believe caused him to struggle and have confidence issues. But I've seen this story before It was pretty much the exact same with his freshman yr of highschool as far as his play and development and kinda team as a whole. Idk how this translates to college but sophomore yr they won a regional title ? Im expecting big things next yr

Akoy seems to have an issue with the truth. He milked his recruitment for all it was worth including sideline passes to Nebraska football games. Miles probably spent more time with him than with his own family until Akoy decided to go elsewhere. He's a liar if he's saying Nebraska didn't try to recruit him.

  5. I figured I should after he text me and said there's some rumors about it lol. But jeriah was really a surprise and although there were times I felt maybe he would(transfer) especially the 1 game I can't remember against who but he and miles were having a pretty intense moment on the side after some mistakes jeriah had made

    so what's next?

Yeah, but you rarely have a season where you need as few as 8, 9 or 10 players. We've seen the need for more depth each of the past 3 seasons. Whether it be injury or a player not living up to his end of the bargain. Downplay the competition factor if you want, but you need it for a number of reasons. Iron sharpens iron. The more of that you can provide, the better. And when you don't have cupboards stocked full of dudes that can fill it up, having someone who can threaten to take playing time is a powerful motivator. I think we've carried an extra scholarship into the season every year under Miles. Only once have we filled it with a mid-season transfer. I'm excited for his potential, but I'd love it if at least occasionally that scholarship had been filled. Someone like a Tre'Shawn Thurman would have been a perfect use of that open scholie. There are plenty of in-state guys that could have been the 13th guy on the roster. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Yep. He's mad his career hasn't panned out. Didn't recruit him? I believe we recruited him TWICE! The second time after he decided to transfer, Miles gave him every opportunity to be here but finally closed the door when he jacked us around so long.

    Border State Hoops

    The idea that we can't recruit good players because of our geography, weather, etc. is absolutely ridiculous. Sure, we haven't done a very good job at winning our state over the last decade or two, but how does Nebraska fare when compared to its border states? Here's a look at how these states performed this year: STATE W L Conf W Conf L Post Season W Post Season L TEAMS MADE POSTSEASON # Nebraska 55 43 25 27 0 1 1 Kansas 81 22 41 13 3 1 3 Missouri 70 95 32 52 1 0 1 Iowa 64 64 36 36 2 0 2 South Dakota 44 24 24 8 0 2 2 Wyoming 19 14 8 10 1 0 1 Colorado 82 89 40 48 1 1 2 AVERAGES STATE W L Conf W Conf L Post Season W Post Season L TEAMS MADE POSTSEASON % Nebraska 18.3 14.3 8.3 9.0 0.0 0.3 33% Kansas 27.0 7.3 13.7 4.3 1.0 0.3 100% Missouri 14.0 19.0 6.4 10.4 0.2 0.0 20% Iowa 16.0 16.0 9.0 9.0 0.5 0.0 50% South Dakota 22.0 12.0 12.0 4.0 0.0 1.0 100% Wyoming 19.0 14.0 8.0 10.0 1.0 0.0 100% Colorado 16.4 17.8 8.0 9.6 0.2 0.2 40% POSTSEASON: Creighton (NCAA) Iowa State (NCAA) Kansas (NCAA) Kansas State (NCAA) South Dakota State (NCAA) Wichita State (NCAA) Colorado (NIT) Colorado State (NIT) South Dakota (NIT) Iowa (CBI) UMKC (CBI) Wyoming (CBI) STILL ALIVE: Iowa State (NCAA) Kansas (NCAA) Wichita State (NCAA) Colorado State (NIT) Iowa (CBI) UMKC (CBI) Wyoming (CBI)

Minus Novas title last year the BE has been terrible in the tourney. One title and two Sweet 16's in three years for a "basketball" conference is not good. They might not have a single team playing next weekend.

    so what's next?

Tired of hearing the self imposed sanctions thing and people whining about not being able to get 13 scholarship players. A rotation is 8, 9, 10 players at the very most. Say what you want about competition in practice blah blah blah. We want the most firepower we can possibly have within that playing rotation. Miles has made clear his strategy on optimizing potential to add firepower to the rotation. That is to leave a spot open for a mid season transfer because guys in the spring who haven't signed yet are overvalued and recruited by everyone who needs a guy. In other words, they usually aren't as good as advertised and odds of landing them are small. Adding a 13th just to add a 13th does no good. It's not like we are turning 5 star recruits away and saying sorry we have to leave a spot open in case there's a mid season transfer we want. We usually have reeled in the best of the recruits available who want to come here and are scratching and clawing for guy number 12. So it's not like adding a 13th guy who is questionable at this level does us any good.

Watching this tournament has me hoping Miles figures out how to get more guys with more basketball skill. All of these teams have guys that simply can score the basketball and guys that make open shots. They also have way better spacing and actually have an idea of what they want to accomplish. Miles needs to reach out to some offense experts this offseason and figure this out. The days of other teams defense improving at a greater rate than our offense during the season has got to stop. That's all. Back to watching good basketball.

    Nebrasketball Attendance

If the only option availble to us between the three clap and standing silently at attention during player intros I would choose silence. Three clap is so ridiculously lame it's not even funny.
    1 point
  26. Right or wrong, Nebraska crowds have a history of being nice. When we beat teams senseless in football, we left a nice impression on the poor souls who took a beating by politely clapping when they left the stadium. Let's show some class and provide the opposing team a silly three clap salute when they are introduced. Gasp...we can't stand during the game it may block someone else's view....et al. We show up, we are nice, we are classy. Balderdash!!! When it comes to basketball we need to develop a crowd attitude. It starts with the students. It involves the team. It takes buy-in with the rank and file fans. It cannot be dirty or classless, but it has to have an edge. The opposing team should not think they have been invited to play golf at the local club. We can be that crowd, but we need leaders that loosen a bit of their perceived grip. How do we get it done???

  31. THANK YOU. Because, selfishly, I am really looking forward to watching that kid take a HUGE step forward next season. I really do believe this team is poised to take a big step forward. And I have Isaiah penciled into my starting lineup. (Which really doesn't mean a whole lot, since I am not Tim Miles, contrary to what people have suggested in the past.)

  32. @Norm Peterson, I'm much more of a proponent for creating a unique PBA atmosphere than I am for a crowd that is unified in their traditional cheers. I think we're on the same page though that something needs to change right now.

  34. How many people leave the Lied Center, Rococo Theatre, or whatever other entertainment venue there is in Lincoln in the middle of a performance? And if you choose to leave, at least do it respectfully. Common sense.

  35. Norm, I just read through this and conclude that you are really bagging on the fans. If you are going to characterize 14K folks as "crappy" and "docile at best" for having the audacity to buy tickets, drive to Lincoln from who knows where, but not stand on their feet at all times (or whatever you consider involved), we're going to have to agree to disagree. Yes, there are a few bad apples, but I don't think it's fair to generalize the way you did above. People have made all kinds of excuses for the team being tired at the end of the season, and just excuse the losses that way. Shouldn't fans get the same leeway? Forgive me if I didn't stand on my feet all 2nd half of the Michigan game, waving my arms wildly, trying to change the karma of a 40 point blowout. All in good fun, Norm. No offense intended.

As I recall it, the story is, Tim was at an AAU event in Vegas and was having pretty animated phone conversations (presumably with Akoy - he needed a quality big man to pair with Biggs/Webster) and left quickly to hop on his jet to go to an event in KC that Akoy was playing in. I believe this was also the famous flight that he gave Izzo a lift in...

Yes, and their offensive scheme was just awful. I mean, obviously if Buzz had just coached his guys to not miss so many shots they would have won the game! Plus the horrible player rotations! What a terrible coach. They need to fire him and open up the checkbook.

I clearly spoke too soon. In the last 5 minutes of the game, VTech really figured out how to play 3 point defense as Wisconsin missed every singe trey attempt in the last 5 minutes of the game. Before that, though, Virginia Tech was allowing Wisconsin to shoot 50% from beyond the arc. Those are Molinari-esque numbers. I think Va Tech should really study what they were doing in the last 5 minutes to make Bronson Koenig suddenly start missing all over the place. Had they kicked up their defense like that 5 minutes sooner, they might have won this game. In-game coaching decisions obviously cost Va Tech a chance to advance. Seems like a no-brainer to non-experts like myself that you would naturally want to start making the other team miss their 3-pointers earlier in the game.

  47. I know it's probably just me...and well..maybe a lot of people that don't post on this board but: I'd expect with the talent we have (or are supposed to have depending on if you put this all on Miles or put some of it on the players) that Nebraska reaches the NCAA next year no matter who is coaching. Tim Miles...Roy Williams...Scott Frost...hell Lil' Red. I also expect us to beat Creighton next year as well. Next year is not a rebuilding year unless a new coach comes in and dumps a portion of the team...or they transfer out. As far as I'm concerned...this year was rock bottom. Nowhere to go up up.
