What a cruel girlfriend Nebrasketball is. She leads you on, gives you hope, and then crushes your dreams. Yet you still keep coming back for more.

groce was coaching a team in a recruiting hot bed that made the finals 10 years ago. miles was coaching a team that's never won an ncaa game. that's the difference.

  8. Let me throw a rather fresh name out there. His daddy was a pretty good player for Iowa. In fact he was a heck of a three-point shooter. I am talking about Carter Kingsbury. His brother is a junior, his dad still owns Iowa three point shooting records. Carter Kingsbury is a freshman at Ponca. His 6'3" and has sort of a doughy body at this point. But the kid can shoot the three and has exceptional range...as a freshman. I believe it is worth keeping an eye on this kid. He has good pedigree, he has good size...and he can shoot the rock.

If Nebrasketball is a girlfriend, then she's clearly a redheaded stripper named Tiffany, and pretty far into the Danger Zone on the Universal Hot vs Crazy Matrix.

    Sipple checks in

Dirk does make some points but he ignores year two when the team did make the tournament and was on fire in February. He basically ignores our best three point shooter leaving us in the lurch at the end of the summer. Maybe the coach was at fault but we really don't know that. And was Miles responsible for Roby's back and Morrow's foot or should he be able to foresee injuries before they happen? How about Shavon's concussion, might that have had an impact on the end of the previous year? I think it is possible to have a three year streak of bad luck and then catch some breaks. I get that Dirk doesn't like Miles, but to be fair, the case for the AD keeping him one more year is just as strong if these facts are not ignored. Meanwhile I am glad we are not in some sort of bidding war with Illinois for the latest hot coach du jour. We'll know next year at this time whether Shawn or Dirk is right. I am content to wait until then to see.And maybe Dirk's assessment of our underclassmen's talent will make them have something to prove next year.I would hate to think what his opinion of Tai was after year one or two.

  18. Fwiw,(probably not much) I have had the same vibes on Watson that rr has. Someone called my attention to it midseason or so and didn't think anything of it. His vibes were not always very positive from what I saw either. Sure hope he is back as nobody would be more important if we keep running this same shitty offense.

I'd agree with just about all of that. One thing I wouldn't put too much stock in is Wilson's numbers his first two years, because Michigan doesn't play a lot of freshmen unless they end up being lottery picks, and Wilson was in the doghouse if I remember correctly. I'd give Wilson an edge because he is far more skilled offensively while being 3 inches taller. Wilson is shooting 37% from 3 (4% higher than Nebraska's second-best shooter) and had 45 assists vs 35 turnovers so far vs. Ed, who might have hit a couple 12 footers this year and had 8 assists vs 47 turnovers. Offensively, it's not close. Hopefully Ed can improve those things because he's not even scratching the surface of what he can be. I'd give the edge to Robinson so far since he shot 45% from 3 last year, 43% this year. If Jack is shooting 43% from 3 next year we'll be a much better team. The Waston-Walton comparison is an interesting one. Here are there sophomore averages. Watson Jr. 13.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.6 spg, 41.7 FG%, 39.7 3P%, 81.0 FT% Walton Jr. 10.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.2 spg, 34.6 FG%, 35.8 3P%, 83.3 FT% Walton's team had more balance on offense, with LaVert and Irvin both averaging over 14 before Irvin and Walton went down with injuries at about the same time. Glynn could end up being as good, or better, but: he looks like he's weighing in at about 160 lbs right now, and his assist numbers so far haven't been great. Maybe that's a function of our shooters and offensive scheme and execution not being good.

I'm with you. I'm amazed how much time people are spending on trying to come up with ways to get better next season. After this crappy year, it would make sense to just take a few months away from analyzing NU hoops. Pretty impressive, although it raises the question of whether any of us have lives.

He wouldn't leave for Illinois. CU doesn't have to disclose his contract details as a private school, but rest assured he has enough security to not have to go chasing jobs like Illinois. I wouldn't be surprised if his agent floats his name in order to get his boss to pass the hat for a raise.

    Nebraska State Tournament

I was thinking that if a kid doesn't have to worry about playing on so many different teams then that extra time could be spent on skills development in practice. When you play multiple games during the week it reduces practice time. I'd rather see fewer teams and kids placed on teams according to their true level of play rather than spreading them too thin and reducing valuable skills practice time.

He has 3 years? on his contact? Would be a pretty, pretty, pretty good time to have someone else call to up those negotiating $$$. Would certainly be interesting if true. If Wichita can pay 3 mil per year certainly the Jays can easily pony up money for MacDaddy

  32. 2018 SF Ed Chang. Hands down. Dude is a stud athletically. We can only hope he wants to play just a short drive on I-80 to UNL from Papio. Scottsbluff guard is not that great for the next level, in my opinion. He's a bully baller. He'll play at Chadron St.

  33. I was thinking about this a bit this morning. I think there is something to it. How can our defense get in necessary work to improve if we aren't facing the good passing and good schemes in practice that we are facing in games? A lot of the actions our defense uses are ones that would be effective in stopping our own offense. For example, helping quickly on Tai or Watson and leaving shooters open. I am afraid that our defense is ending up being geared to stop ourselves, which is contributing to the wide open threes and bad close outs and rotations. How can they work on rotations if we aren't good passers and don't move the ball well? We gotta get better on offense in general. It can only help our D in practice.

It's just a set play. We could run more set plays. I would like to see a secondary break like UNC runs into motion and then something Calipari does (I think I've mentioned it before) is go into your set play with 12 or so seconds left. If you run your play first and get nothing, most of the time you end up with a 1 v 1 at the end of the shot clock. Run the secondary into motion to keep the pressure on and then run the set play at the end of the shot clock to increase your chance at a higher percentage shot. The difficulty with this concept is you don't know where everyone is going to end up when you run motion, so every player needs to be able to run every play from every position.

    Next Years Starting 5

I'd give Akenten a lot better shot at starting games if he was coming in back in 2012 and 2013 with our roster back then. If Nana is starting games a lot of games next year we either did a hell of a job in recruiting or we're garbage.

We watch freshmen come in here every year and struggle and yet I keep seeing Nana Akenten being thrown into the starting lineup of what we seem to think is our deepest team in the Miles era. Anyone else find this odd?
