    Illinios

Double-post going on here. I said it in the other thread, I would be shocked if McDermott would leave Creighton for Illinois. Creighton is a much better gig.

  2. I was thinking about this a bit this morning. I think there is something to it. How can our defense get in necessary work to improve if we aren't facing the good passing and good schemes in practice that we are facing in games? A lot of the actions our defense uses are ones that would be effective in stopping our own offense. For example, helping quickly on Tai or Watson and leaving shooters open. I am afraid that our defense is ending up being geared to stop ourselves, which is contributing to the wide open threes and bad close outs and rotations. How can they work on rotations if we aren't good passers and don't move the ball well? We gotta get better on offense in general. It can only help our D in practice.

  3. Since he is at the Class A semi-finals tonight with Jacobson and wearing a Nebraska sweatshirt, I would assume that this is true.

Apples and oranges. But after seeing him coach at Illinois and seeing what Miles' vision was for NU, I was more than happy with the outcome.

Remember a time when everyone was worried that the Illini got him over coming here to NU?

  6. My "source" RE: Morrow was someone who spoke with Steve Taylor so take that for what it's worth. Also, I've heard his folks went to school here and I'm sure they might have something to say about it.

It probably won't stop the same people who started the same rumor last year from giving it a go after his Junior year

Looking at the youtube vid from a couple months ago...a mechanical shot for sure. It doesn't look like he's shooting with the momentum of his jump. But its a reasonably quick release and, at least from that one game, looks relatively consistent. Definitely looks like a player to count on for knocking down shots. But you just never know with true freshmen, especially underrecruited ones who have been less scrutinized .

  9. That's called the dip. Other players who dipped: Ray Allen, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, etc. Some call it the pro shot shooting method. Not all of them use every part of the method but they all dip, get their shooting shoulder directly in line with the basket, shoulders back on the shot and follow through with the index finger down and all the others up. There is lots of good video on this on YouTube - Pro Sot Shootomg Method. I don't like every part of that method but I agree with a lot. When talking to another coach about how I taught shooting now he said that sounds a lot like the pro shot method and told me to watch video on YouTube. I do know if you go to Duke or North Carolina, that's how they teach you to shoot.

Thinking about this a bit, if this is true, we're basically asking him to be Kevin Huerter. Huerter shot about 43% from 3 in AAU play. And hit about 37% (39.4% in B1G play) in his FR year. Can Nana do that? Is that good enough? I can't find his HS or AAU stats for the life of me, so I'm not sure how they compare to what Huerter put up his senior year.

  12. Makes teams better later on too. Case and point: GACC is in the D1 State Finals, as the 8 seed, with a 14-13 record with all but 1 of their losses coming from C1 or C2 schools.

    And That's a Wrap

lord what a horrible thought. a 12-19 team playing by far its worst ball of the year. I can't imagine the selection landscape being so barren as to warrant an invitation to a program like that right now. this season should be over and given last rites and never spoken of again. Okay, the last part's a bit harsh, but...let's not speak of it, okay? If someone asks, "so, the 2016-17 team...." your only response should be, "what? 20...what? we had those years? Wow.Missed that."

Whoever catches the ball has to make the basket for an assist to be credited. That is a big part of our problem.

  15. If Pitchford doesn't miss that dunk on a break, Nebraska wins that game. And maybe Pitchford doesn't go in the tank after that.

  16. Penn was the worst draw ever for our team that year. They had: Sr. PG Matt Moloney (7-year NBA vet) Sr. SG Jerome Allen (2nd Round NBA pick) and a bunch of very good upperclassmen who played pro ball in Europe/became head coaches. We were always going to get our ass kicked in that game. Xavier was a sleeping giant with guys like: Brian Grant (NBA lottery pick) Jamie Gladden (NBA free agent) Aaron Williams (15 year NBA player) Michael Hawkins (NBA) Just absolutely horrible draws. Both of them. We really weren't any better than either of those teams.

  17. Bingo. I think 2008 Nebraska would have made it. That team was 19-12 entering the tournament with the #323 non-conference strength of schedule. It ended the season #39 on KenPom (far better than any Miles team).

  19. At this point, I could care less if a guy would shoot it off of his damn head. I just want the thing to start going into the hole. If Nana can do that... then count me in.

    Adjustments

I don't know if Miles has the cajones to do it, and they don't have the shooters right now, but I'd love to see NU transition to the Grinnell College model. I'm dead serious about that, too.

    Top 5 "WHAT IF" teams

What if we do not lose to Ohio State in the 2013-2014 B1G Tourney. We then get a Michigan team who had narrowly escaped us in Lincoln. Then we also probably do not get Baylor in the 1st round. What if Pitchford and Petteway stay and we also have White to compliment those two... What if Doc's team would have beaten Colorado to get to 20 wins... we probably go dancing and Doc is probably still here... What if.... I could go on and on..... Nebraska has so many "what if" moments that it drives me nuts.

    Adjustments

Taylor's ceiing isn't very high. I think it's laughable that he scoffs at Jake and Morrow though. I don't think either one of those guys is going to be future first team all conference or NBA draft pick...but both of those guys are legit BIg 10 players. Not superstars. But legit players

Sip's main premise which I do not agree with is that college age kids who are struggling to find money for a supreme pizza will feel psychologically stressed if their head coach who pulls in 2 million per year might lose his job, especially if they are already dealing with the stress of a Trump presidency. Just ask the athletic department to pony up for some of those $13K isolation pods so that they can take naps and de-stress. In fact, maybe we could all use one of those pods.

  31. It sounds crazy for a 12-19 (6-12) season that went off the deep end at the end of the season, but hear me out. We did some pretty special things this year. - Coach Miles got to go back to his coaching roots and spend time with a plane full of University of Mary fans. - We went into the Wooden Legacy tournament and fought our way into the winners side of the bracket for the first time in a long time. - We played tough against a #14 5-0 UCLA team, keeping the game within six with three minutes to go, who finished #3 28-3 (15-3) in the regular season. - We played #3 8-1 Kansas team in historic Allen Fieldhouse and got to relive the Big 12 days a little bit. - We showed spurts of being a team that fought hard and didn't give up against really good competition. - We beat Indiana on the road when they were #16 10-2. - We beat Maryland for the first time since joining the Big Ten and did it at their place nonetheless. - We started off the conference season alone in the #1 with a 3-0 start. - We ended up beating Purdue and Maryland who finished the #1 and #3, respectively, in the Big Ten conference and went to overtime with the #2 Wisconsin. - We made a palindrome of wins and losses through 15 games in the season. - We ended the season with a Top 25 strength of schedule and were #1 and in the Top 5 most of the season, something that could not be said during non-conference play in the Doc era; it was exciting to watch elevated competition this year. - We played in a lot of close games, nine games within four points and five games within nine points. - It wasn't until 45% of the way through the conference schedule until we got blown out by an opponent. - We have a roster full of underclassman who all showed spurts of promise for the future, with only one senior on the roster. - We have had at least some level of depth on the bench for the first time in a long time. - We have been recruiting some high caliber players throughout the year. - We saw Tai grow so much throughout his career and finish off his time as a proud Husker and second-team all-Big Ten. - We got a much-needed "big man" that we were in desperate need for a few years. - We saw Jordy grow a lot throughout this season. - We saw Tyronn Lue come back to Nebraska to see his jersey retired. - The Nebrasketball community banded together and rebelled against the athletic department and continued the "Husker Power" chant. - Brian Rosenthal became the official "official" source. - Shawn Eichorst spent little-to-no-time announcing that Coach Miles will be returning to Nebraska next year, providing fans with less ambiguity, stress, and clarity than letting rumors take a life of their own over the off-season. - We played a schedule with a combined record of 487-265 (248-182) as of March 8 (which is 65% and 58% respectively) with teams currently rankes 1, 3, 12, 23, 25, and 7 other teams receiving votes. Some of those teams finishing the regular season 1st in the Atlantic-10, 1st in the Summit League, 1st in the Big 12, 2nd in Conference USA, 3rd in the Pac-12, 3rd in the SWAC, and 4th in the Big South. Teams currently projected in the NCAA tournament are seeded 1, 3, 4, 6 (x2), 7 (x2), 8 (x2), 9 (x2), and 10. It's hard not to find something good about this season. I don't know about you, but I'm excited to see what's in store for 2017-2018.
