  1. All sarcasm aside, having our former players come back and remain involved in the Program is a good thing, a very good thing. I've been in many places over the years and asked to have the ball game turned on only to hear the same old tired joke,"Nebraska has a Basketball team?" Yeah they do. It's important that players come back and remind the team AND the fans that Nebraska basketball MEANS something. It has a history, a history that goes way beyond the move to the Haymarket. Being a Husker football fan is easy, anyone can do that. But being a Husker basketball fan is different. It requires a love for the game and an emotional investment that most people aren't willing to make. So, let's beat Illinois on Sunday and Go Big Red!

  2. We're "HONORING" the 3rd place NIT squad from Nee's 1st season. If that doesn't put some butts in the seats & get the players worked into a lather, well, I don't know what will.

  3. Somebody please explain to me why Cincore plays so many minutes. From what I can see she seems really selfish on offense, takes bad shots all the time, she gets burnt on defense just like everybody else, she has the worst shooting percentage on the entire team and her decision making is pretty poor. If she was a freshman I might understand a little better. Anytime a buddy goes to the game with me, I don't even have to say anything, they have a negative comment about her. She has started every game this season and I don't think she is deserving of it. Why would you not throw Wood or Jensen in there to start a game here and there? I get it that Wood is small but she is unselfish and makes pretty good decisions most of the time. Plus we all know she can shoot the ball. This has had me baffled all year. Cincore is a junior and she plays like a rookie. Like I posted in a previous discussion, it just seems like we are trying to keep everybody happy and not making any tough decisions or holding players accountable.

Probably won't happen, but it would be great to see Danny come back for this.

  5. With Groce given 100% chance of being fired and the Illini being the only game left on our schedule in which we will be favored, does this make Sunday's game the most critical game yet faced by this group? I think so. Since Miles felt it necessary to bring up his status first in yesterday's presser, a blow out loss at home would give ample grist to the mills of those who are ready to throw him under the bus. I have been impressed with the resiliency of this year's staff in preparing the team mentally for each game and the ability of the players to come back strong each time. Let's hope they are able to do it again.

A nice piece on what playing at Nebraska meant to Aleks Maric: http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=211501897

  8. maryland, osu, mich, mich st seems right. maybe noah could comment more on this, but, what the heck happened to northwestern? i really thought they would be battling for that 3rd spot in the big ten this season. being from sd, i think the summit league tourney (for women) is wide open next week. western illinois is probably the favorite going into the tourney, but iupui, sdsu, usd have great chances. maybe another team will get hot and make a run (omaha?)-----who knows. i noticed college women hoops has western illinois and sdsu in. i will stick with my original prediction for 1 team from summit. oh, sorry, it just came back to me about the tragedy suffered at northwestern. i imagine that may have played into why northwestern had a tough season. oh, and forget the "(omaha?)" comment------------they look pathetic against usd today.

Sorry, I meant, losing the 2 games to rain. Hurts the team not to get some game action in, especially early in the season.

  12. Aleks Maric, now 32-years-old, is 6-foot-11 and weighs 275 pounds, the same height and weight he was 11 years ago when Nebraska’s first-team All-Big 12 center left Lincoln. Maric (pictured above) will be introduced Sunday night during Nebraska’s basketball game against Illinois. His one shining moment inside Pinnacle Bank Arena will be even more emotional than the reflections he processed on a 21-hour flight from Sydney, Australia, to Nebraska. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=20&SPID=24&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=211501897&DB_OEM_ID=100

  17. To add to my hatred of refs, Jordy got hit in the chest and no foul was called on his dunk. On the following MSU possession, Jack grazes the shooter's arm, 3 fts. Our guys almost always get their hand or arm hit on contested shots when you watch the replays, we never get that call.

  18. Not that he won't be fired, but SI's rationale that the AD is already 0-1 with Lovie Smith's hiring - he chalked it up to "perception" - is really odd.

  19. If anything, it's more like a diamond and one - and whoever is in the middle kind of gets to roam or deny someone. Really confused the offense.

  21. Is there some reason Grace doesn't get more minutes? She hit a nice shot early and then seemed to disappear. She always seems to give good effort.

  24. But in fairness they are 5 star, MaDonald's AA, one year play'n, lottery pick Freshman. Ours are hard working, 3+ish star, lunch pail carring, gotta be perfect to beat ya Freshman.

  25. ...and it's not an excuse anyway Norm, it's not like football where players have to develop. Freshmen can come in and contribute right away. I mean, look at Kentucky and Kansas and Duke...

  26. matt coatney during his broadcast stated that this was not unexpected from michigan. coach williams and the huskers prepared for this earlier. wasn't really a shock this squad still had a "clunker" left in them. what was a little surprising is how bad the defensive effort was in that first half, especially first quarter. some of the passing was a head scratcher--------my gosh, riley, what were you seeing? defender glued to one side of jess and the other one practically standing right smack in front of jess and you try to throw it into jess? she didn't try a lob pass, a bounce pass? don't mean to pick on riley, because there were plenty of examples from other players. just one that really stuck out to me. anyway, huskers just dug themselves waaaaaaaay to big a hole right from the start. clawed back to get it to 15 and whitish took a 3---in and out. even if that went in, i didn't see the huskers pulling a rabbit out of the hat, but, maybe they could have made the score a little more respectable. one other thing that i think really made a difference, nicea had maybe one of her worst games. ended up, this was just a season the huskers couldn't afford that to happen. for allie's and esther's sake, hope we don't see that on senior day. going to be tough, though.

  28. When you play one of the best 3 shooting teams in the league, you should prepare the defense to defend the perimeter. Some one must have forgotten that detail.

  29. Just a terrible defensive effort. Too slow reacting, you gotta move your feet girls and stop that dribble drive and get a hand in the shooters face. 21 turnovers. Gave up 33 points in 3-pointers. Shepard and Havers with 12 points, Whitish and Simon both had 11, Nicea with a goose egg.

  31. 38 - 13 now. 5:00 left until the half. Getting clobbered in every aspect of the game. Can't defend the three point shot. 7 turnovers ain't helping at all. Looks like the Huskers have gave up.
