Let's just take a moment to pause and talk about the crowd, because this board seems to be very critical of it at times. We're on a five-game losing streak right now, yet we have a fan base who hasn't given up. Sure, they could be much more vocal during the good times, but at least they've stuck around through the bad times!5 points -

Trying not to be realistic with a side of pessimism right now... I just don't see this momentum lasting. Based on past performance, Purdue will likely come out strong in the second half and give us a run for our money. But let me say, the fact we're up at half is fantastic. Trying to keep it together and stay strong! Let's win this for Avery!2 points -

Really glad he is not heading to Nebraska. I was at the Centenial conference final tonight ( Boys Town Vs Bishop Neumann ). BN beat them by around 40 about a month ago. The game tonight was a pretty good game most of the way. Bishop always had the lead, but BT kept it under 10. The lead started to grow in the 4th and then Teddy got called for a foul as a BN player hit a layup. Teddy had had enough and told the ref that he f'ing sucked ( I could hear it from 15 rows up ) . The ref didn't hear it, so Teddy told him again...the ref heard this time and T'd him. Teddy went to his bench , but decided he wasn't done. He walked over to the scorers table where two refs were and either said something and or clapped at them. He was thrown out of the game at that point. Teddy clearly is very talented for a Nebraska HS player. Not sure how his game translates at the next level. That's the least of his problems, given the above prargraph. I could describe a few more situations as I've seen him play twice this season. When a person is willing to be a bad butt in front of everyone, that's usually not a good sign.2 points

I think we will be alot better next year, assuming we have all the players we are anticipating to have. Watson will take over a Webster type role. Plus you will have Morrow, Jacobson, and Jordy down low. Who can all score. Once Jordy learns how to play defense without fouling we will have a three headed monster in the front court. You'll have Jack and Horne to supply the three ball. ET to do all the little things he does so well. Roby who we all agree is just oozing with talent but needs to put it all together. Plus we got Nana coming in who at the least will be able to contribute to the level of what our freshmen now are. AND I haven't even mentioned our transfer players Gill, Palmer, and Copeland. Anybody who can't see the build up and progress for next year is blind. I have never been this optimistic about an upcoming season. Obviously that can change depending on transfers and injuries but as of right now I'm stoked. I want to see what Miles can do with that roster. And if he fails to make atleast the NIT and bubble conversation then he should be let go and I will sadly admit I was wrong about Miles. But I just gotta see next year first.2 points

no doubt, osu built to score. not overly impressed when they have to fall back into their defense. i thought they would have a great shot at winning the big ten this season. still do, but....i can see where they run into problems with teams that have above average (or better) play on both sides of the court. maybe they were just going through the motions with the huskers, but, i question whether osu can make a big run in the ncaa's. i admit, only about 3rd time i have seen osu this season. anyway, my gosh, the turnovers. smh. were a few times where the husker guards caught the ball near the half court during the press and could have taken off across the line, but, instead were looking for that extra pass-------GO!!! huskers had stretches where offense had their moments, even when they didn't score. too bad they couldn't have taken advantage in that first half when osu was struggling a bit----just turned it over too much. would like grace a few more chances to pull the trigger------but, one of the problems is, is she is set up 10ft out or more, no one there to rebound but maybe jess (or washington). overall, not a huge bust-----i was afraid of this one really getting out of hand.1 point -

The future NBA player is averaging a double-double and is shooting 50% from 3. The Skinny Ed Morrow is a game time decision. He's practiced the last two days and he's expected to come back either today or Thursday vs Michigan St. Purdue's big front line of Swanigan, Isaac Hass, and Vincent Edwards gets all the attention but it's the 3pt shooting guards that Matt Painter rolls out that makes Purdue such a load offensively. How much can Jacobson slow down Swanigan? Who is slowing down Swanigan when he's on the floor with Haas? How many minutes can a foul prone Jordy play against a front court that generates a lot of contact? The Purdue offense typically works quickly so it's really about pushing pace in order to goad the Boilermakers into quick shots they hopefully won't make nor rebound for easy put backs. Offensively, the Boilermakers don't foul a lot but they have a surprising lack of blocks and turnovers. I admittedly have not seen enough of them to know whether teams cannot penetrate past the guards with ease or if teams don't want to drive the lane against the height of Purdue. Look for vary their attack based on whether or not Haas is on the floor for rim protection. This Purdue team is 2-2 on the road including an Iowa team that shot the ball well and made a defensive stand in the end. This is the sort of effort that it will take from Nebraska to win this one. The Huskers changed up their routine to stay at a hotel tonight. Is that the boost they need? Do they have the confidence to make shots in this game? Prediction: Purdue 82 Nebraska 72 with a 68% chance of Runzas View full article1 point -

Actually played a better game. We looked pretty organized, just missed to many shots, and didn't defend consistently. And still to many turnovers that were helped by OSU...but mostly done to ourselves. Most noticable was our weak defense, but we played an excellent team. But overall improved play offensively. Hannah is clearly the point guard of the future, she just has the head (and abilities) for the position. When she gets a better short game around the lane, she'll be even more valuable. Her defense is getting better as she has adapted to the college game. Jess played much better today. She looks in better condition, played strong throughout the game. Played very determined. Had some nice assists and passes. Give her a 9.5...she was awesome. There were a few phantom fouls, but we must learn to defend before the shot, not when it's too late. Hopefully that should come with experience. We just got out shot...every OSU player can shoot for to many points.1 point -

On a positive the Huskers never gave up. Need to come into every game from here on out with that kind of offensive production. And they need to react and move their feet on defense and get out and put a hand in the face of the outside shooters.1 point -

Don't like to see to much expectation on any freshman because of the large learning curve from high school but I have to disagree on small school competition. There's been a number of very good ball players that have had successful Division 1 careers such as Chatrice White, Jina Johansson, Nicole Kubik who also was a WNBA 1st pick, Mikaela Shaw who we played earlier this year. Can't always discount the smaller schools. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point -

What is our offense and what does Miles want it to be?
hhcmatt reacted to basketballjones for a topic
Very complicated question. And one you couldn't know unless you were at practices and in team meetings. Basketball isn't as black and white as football is (admittedly it's getting muddier as most teams use spread principles, even when they are power running teams, now along with RPO principles and plays). "What" your offense is in basketball is more what is emphasized, and what pace you do it at. For instance, Creighton plays as if the shot clock is not existent- therefore what is clearly emphasized is dudes taking shots they feel are in rhythm to shoot and creating rhythm shots for teammates. They want to run and gun, and beat you via mathematics of field goal percentages and number of possessions. Wisconsin under Bo Ryan clearly wanted ball reversals, inside touches, and the entirety of the shot clocked used to find the perfect shot. Many other coaches want multiple paint touches via the drive or post entry every possession, before a shot is put up. Some coaches preach give up a good shot for a great one. Some otter preach shooting great shots regardless of when they happen (as in, you make it a great shot if it's something you are good at and you are in rhythm). Obvioisly there's many different forms of offense and different ways to distort the defense. Some coaches run a designed set every time down the court. Some run a revolving/continuity offense. Some install motion principles with rules individual players abide by as far as screening, cutting, posting, driving, spacing, handing off, or ball screening. But regardless of how you plan to attack the defense, what shots and at what paced define what kind of offense you are. And it seems to me that full, 100% buy-in from the players, and understanding of the team offensive concept, is what makes the ball going in the hoop at a high enough % to win at the tempo you want. Of course, assuming you have the talent in the first place.1 point -
Ed Morrow is our most important player.
Bugeaters1 reacted to unl for a topic
Two things: Don't rush him, but, play him in as many games as possible. If he can give us 20 minutes instead of 30, and that gets him more games or possibly through the end of the season, would be a huge boost obviously. You hate to be too simplistic but, this is really good news.1 point -
It must be a nightmare for teams playing Washington trying to stop the leading scorer in the nation in point guard K. Plum averaging 31 ptrs per game who can drive to the hoop all night long and never get tired. Also their leading rebounder in the nation at center is averaging 17 ptrs per game. Concentrate too much on them and here comes Romeo hitting ten threes. Last year Washington lost in the first round of the final four to Syracuse as they had a lot of trouble with their press. I'm sure with everyone that returned from that team and the addition of Romeo with her ball handling skills they should make the final four again. I'm happy for Romeo but sad we lost her. I am an alum of both Wash and NU but my heart is with the Huskers. GBR1 point

Shepard had 8 turnovers last night, that's not good. That alone accounted for a third of the Huskers turnovers against Purdue. She lost control of the ball or had a bad pass 5 times bringing the ball up the court. She leads the team in turnovers and most of those turnovers occur when she tries going coast to coast bringing the ball up the court. In my opinion she needs to give the ball up once she gets a rebound to one of the guards instead of putting the ball on the floor and thinking she can beat the defense down the court. She doesn't have the speed necessary to beat the defense up the court especially in the Big Ten. She got away with that last year because she had a guard in Romeo who would beat the defense down the court and defenses would have to adjust for that, opening up the middle a little bit. She doesn't have that this year because our guards go down the court and usually wind up slowing down at the free throw line extended and not running hard all the way through the bucket, usually leaving two or three defenders meeting her at the top of the key ready stop her penetration.1 point -
But a couple plays differently we are also 1-7. At some point you are what your record says you are. And purdue is coming in1 point
