  1. I don't know what Coach Amy's substitution patterns were at South Dakota, but I do know a little bit about coaching/playing and the fact that she's coming into a team who she didn't know at all before this season is probably the main reason she goes deep into her bench. Also the fact that we still have been unable to really find a solid core lineup who gets it done night in, night out would contribute to that too. We aren't very deep bench-wise so it's about trying to find that player who can come in and contribute right away or worst case sustain what's already going on. So if a team zones us maybe Emily sees the floor more that night; if they're small inside Grace and Darrien get more time. But honestly the reason why she probably plays 9-10 girls is bc 6,7,8 aren't really doing much to sustain what the starters are doing. We've had bright moments for Maddie, Esther and Darrien, but overall they haven't really played up to expectations. And I don't mean that in a negative way. 2. We stand around too much waiting for someone to get open, they have to move more and have quick smart passes. Some of the girls have great screens and others are not even setting a close enough screen. At times they looked lost...and there where times there was lack of hustle..hustle down on defense. And if you are suppose to be a leader on the team...show it! Do the extra in the weight room, in the gym, and when asked of you! Don't think you are better then your teammates...need to start jelling ladies! I will say I am impressed with our Freshmen! Never give up Ladies and play with your Hearts! #GBR

  3. I keep coming back to this in my head. I'm one of those people who won't give credit for close losses without accounting for the close wins as well. So here are the games that were within 10 points: Win vs Dayton, 80-78 (+2pts) Loss at Clemson, 58-60 (-2pts) Loss vs Gardner-Webb, 62-70 (-8pts) Win vs Southern, 81-76 (+5pts) Win at Indiana, 87-83 (+4pts) Win at Maryland, 67-65 (+2pts) Win vs Iowa, 93-90 2OT (+3pts) Loss vs Northwestern, 66-74 (-8pts) Loss at Michigan, 85-91 (-6pts) Loss vs Ohio State, 66-67 (-1pts) Loss at Rutgers, 64-65 (-1pts) Record for games within 10: 5-6 (Avg margin of victory: 3.2; Avg margin of loss: 4.3) Record for games within 5: 5-3 (Avg margin of victory: 3.2; Avg margin of loss: 1.3) Record for games outside of 10: 4-4 (Avg margin of victory: 19.25; Avg margin of loss: 14) Record for games outside of 10 during Big Ten play: 0-0 Top 4 largest victories: 32 (University of Mary), 22 (Sacramento State), 12 (South Dakota), 11 (Louisiana Tech) Top 4 largest defeats: 17 (Kansas), 15 (Creighton), 13 (Virginia Tech), 11 (UCLA) The fact that we haven't lost a double-digit game to a Big Ten team (yet) is pretty fascinating. Sure, we're losing some close heartbreaking games, but that's the tightrope you're going to walk when you're being competitive (or some could argue at times, "playing to the level of your competition"). You're going to win some you should and some you shouldn't and you're going to lose some you should and some you shouldn't. We're standing at 5-6 in those close games (within 10) and 5-3 in really close games (within 5). I suppose that's what separates us from a bottom half team and a top half team.

  5. When watching the WNIT games, I remember thinking she gave the bench quite a few minutes. Her system seemed to be to play fast and go "all out" offensively and defensively. Give 130% while on the court- knowing there would be a sub to give you a break in a few minutes. Offensively, it seemed to be push the ball up the court fast and the first player with an open shot had the green light to shoot. Defensively, again "all out" -get in the passing lane and create turnovers leading to fast break points. The post players also got up and down the court quickly. I don't know if Jess is dealing with a minor nagging injury, poorly conditioned or if it is by design of the offense but she seems much slower going up and down the court this year. I remember times last year where she would beat Everyone down the court and recieve a long pass from Theriot for a layup. Now, it feels like we are so slow getting into the offensive set that we have given the defense time to set up. The defense against us has time to get back, get organized and find Jess for a double/triple team. I believe this offense is meant to run fast. As many have said, next year could be very different. Our freshmen are gaining valuable experience at the college level. Hopefully Burns is healthy. I'm looking forward to her intensity and leadership. GBR!

  7. Some people need to get a grip. We've lost the last three games, one home and two on the road, by a combined total of eight points. And that is without Ed Morrow, who, if he had played, probably makes the difference between us going 0-3 and 3-0 in those last three games. Other guys, you might be able to replace their productivity with another player or combination of players. Not so with Ed. Everyone kind of needs to keep that in mind.

  8. People on my side were wondering the same thing. I agree with actualfacts. I think that she's trying to give everyone a chance this year. IMO, I don't think everyone should be playing. I watched the Penn State/Indiana game last night and Tyra Buss and Teniya Page played basically the whole game. I think that you have to ride with your best players and that's usually 7-8 deep. 10. Amazing what a couple close losses/wins can do for a program. National media is talking about NW being on the "up and up" (rightfully so) and here we are trending the wrong way. Had we just pulled out the two heart break losses, we would be 5-2 and in 2nd place in the B10 and we may be the team getting some pub. NW has won their close games and it makes Collins a "genius". We have lost our close games and Miles is clueless. At the end of the day we need to win and unfortunately we haven't these last couple games. I honestly believe we would be 5-2 or even 6-1 with Morrow. Now, injuries are part of the game and I get that, it just stinks. Its a fine line with coaching. Had Tai taken care of the ball late vs Rutgers and had we hit some FT's vs OSU we would all be dancing in the streets. Instead, we lost them both in heart break fashion and frustration sets in. I for one hope Miles gets at least another year. As mentioned above, it would be one thing if I never felt we had a chance in games. This year more than any other I always think this team can win on any given night. In my 20 years of having season tickets this has been one of the tougher years because of how we have found ways to lose close games (Clemson, OSU, Rutgers). Just a shame we didn't find a way to win 2 of those and our outlook would be completely different.

  13. one thing to remember-----coach williams was hired (at usd) into a pretty good situation. ryun williams did not leave a mess, but, it was also obvious the players she had on the roster would do anything for coach williams during her time there. they loved playing for her. when hired, i believe the squad developed immediate trust and chemistry developed very quickly. she had a pretty good mix of offensive players and, i would say, any drop-off that MAY have been made on the offensive end as far as subs, could be made up in defense. seemed like the majority of her players were (at least) pretty good defensively. jmo, but, if you are looking for her to build a similar style that she had at usd, you better be patient. plus, it may never happen quite like she had at usd. i think coach williams is a pretty smart person, and, she will figure out what works best for her team. will it be soon enough for the fans (or the powers that be)? don't have to remind anyone she's at another level now. btw, good work, bugs!

    In state kids?

Agueks little brother Akol is probably going to be a 1st team all Stater from Creighton Prep as a sophomore-He is clearly there best player-- he just dominated his Senior brother last friday night. Problem--- he's about 6'6 and scores all his points in the paint. Plus-- he is a much better athlete than Aguek. put back slams, driving slams, runs the court like a deer. Has better handle and a shot than people think. His floor is UNO/Summit-- His ceiling is probably to be Miles 6-7th man. Season stats: 15.6 ppg, 8 rpg, 3.5 bpg, 2.5 steals-- shooting 76% from the floor and 71% from the line. If we could land him and Chang as in-state Metro kids-- that would be ideal for me. Both are GREAT kids who no study problems-- humble-- and athletic as anyone to come out of the state past 10+ years.

  15. Miles is on record for not liking to run zone so it's not some shock to hear they hadn't practiced this recently. TBH even if they had practiced I doubt he would have run it.

  16. I don't think the issues are any deeper than injuries. Give us Morrow on the last plays of each the Ohio St and Rutgers game and the chances of us pulling down a defensive rebound are significantly higher. We are more than likely 11-8 (5-2) without a care in the world.

  17. Barry Alvarez is the Manchurian Athletic Director. He was planted on the 1960s Husker teams as a mole to establish credibility and then destroy us in the 21st Century. Bud Wilkinson was the evil genius who devised the plot, but he wouldn't have bothered if he'd known we would go to the Big Ten. No plan is perfect.
