It's a good effort, @Buglem but probably worthless trying to talk any sense into @nustudent. He gets this way...has been for many many years and I don't think he will ever change. It's just a cycle with him. - whines and cries about replacing a coach at right about the 5 year mark, gets really pissy and defensive when anyone replies - gets all excited about potential replacement coaches, whines and pisses and moans when none of them are chosen - finally gets on board with new coach and seems actually positive about the program for a few months - disappears for 4 years from the message board Rinse...repeat. It's really just a cycle of negativity with him, despite his promises of being positive "when there's something to be positive about"....here's a hint, with him, there never is. He'll ONLY make the effort to post when the team is down. Now, having said this, I'm not casting judgement here...he is what he is, and it's his life and this is a free forum where one can freely express one's opinion. But yeah, there's only two things that can happen to shut him up in this phase of the cycle. Winning games, or replacing the coaching staff. Preferably the latter.

Great Thread and Comments from everyone (at least as they pertain to the Huskers and WBB program ). I think we should all be grateful that Nicea re-affirmed her commitment to Nebraska, indeed All of the freshmen who re-affirmed, even though each one had been formally released after the coaching change. Despite the disappointing season to date, from the results on the floor so far from the incoming class, along with those who will become eligible starting next season and next year's commits, the future appears bright. I expect we will see better team discipline next season. Losing can be a big motivator (if it isn't you may have the wrong players). And next year today's freshmen will be more experienced and in a better position to exert leadership. Peer pressure may be even more important in getting the best out of your teammates than coaching exhortations.

I don't think the issues are any deeper than injuries. Give us Morrow on the last plays of each the Ohio St and Rutgers game and the chances of us pulling down a defensive rebound are significantly higher. We are more than likely 11-8 (5-2) without a care in the world.

Our only hope now is to win the B1G tournament to get into the Big Dance.

i'm not sure what your source is, but adidas will absolutely make him a custom shoe that fits. they do it all the time for 7 footers that have massive feet. i'm beginning to think ed just has bad feet and is blaming it on adidas. ed just needs to take as much time off as he can until he's healthy. sadly there isn't a whole lot to play for until the B1G tourney.

I would have to believe there would have to be a legal loophole since they do not produce the equipment that is necessary for the health and safety of a student-athlete. I will repeat, this is perhaps the most asinine thing I have heard in quite some time.

Coach Williams didn't even come out for her radio post game today. What does that tell you? Michigan is a fine team but my goodness there was a lot of dribbling and standing around today. I can't figure out if they don't know how to run the offense or defense or if its lack of effort in some spots? Michigan was so much quicker than us it was scary.

The frustration is that we are in every game. The frustration is that we seem to be right on the cusp of something big. The frustration is with the loss of these close games when everyone can recognize that we are only a few plays each game from being really, really good. The frustration IS NOT with the talent, effort, coaching or lack of a future. So as frustrated as I am, for as disappointed I am; I know, I really know that our future is bright. I am not trying to show a direct correlation, but in 1989-90 our record sucked(10-18), but you could see the talent. We then won a school-record 26 games, with only eight losses, in 1990-91. We are soooo very close this year, can next year be the turn around year???

I think the loss of Morrow has really made people appreciate that although Watson and Webster are our scores, Morrow is as important to this teams success. They can be our big 3. Get better Morrow, we need you.

If you have 3 people collapsing you need to try and run some things for other players to loosen things up.

Your'e exactly right! Thats why we need to do a better job of moving the ball quick and not dribbling so much.

Hard to support any one player as "the most important." But we have found that we have not won without Ed. I would guess however, that we would also have the same issue without Glynn, Tai and possibly MJ. Hard to win when you have multiple injuries and/or transfers sitting out as well. Just to make one additional mention, and I hate to write this, but I am disappointed with the growth of our freshmen this year. At this point of the season I thought they would be much further along. The inconsistency and rookie mistakes are taking a toll. If they step up, the injury to Ed would have less of an effect.

Jacobson was avg. 8.3 points per game, and 10.3 rebounds per game when Ed played in conference. Without Ed, he is avg. 6 points, and 6 rebounds.

No way you should even discuss firing Miles this year. He has been building up for this year and the next two so we should let him follow thru. This year was messed up by White leaving and now our only real inside offensive threat getting hurt. I know it is not popular but if we have White and a healthy Ed we would be in the tournament this year, I really believe that. Just having Ed probably gets us to 5-2 right now this year in the B10 and probably on track for some sort of post season play. Unfortunately the depth right now are Frosh and that is hard in the BIG10 unless they are one and done types that we are not going to get here. They have much more talent than anytime since Nee but they need to learn how to win and that is not easy. The IU and MD wins show we can play with anyone right now but we have to do it consistently. I love Horne / Roby's upside but they were lost yesterday for sure and Jake would be a great guy coming off the bench but he is really our only inside guy right now and that is not good. I expect the frosh to make jumps like this years Sophs made and then we will have depth next year if something happens. Only weak spot I see is PG we need a back up for Glynn.

I certainly underestimated how valuable he was to the team. I think if Tai or Glynn had gone down instead you'd have seen a similar drop off. Those 3 have simlar value to the team, I think. And I think we're under estimating the loss of Gill, too. That made the guard rotation really thin.

I would disagree that he is our "most" important player. To me that is Watson - we would really struggle without Glynn and ultimately the team tends to rise and fall as he does. Webster is clearly critical as well That said Morrow is certainly a very important player to this team - and may be the "most" important at least in terms of getting the team to play with intensity. Something that has been missing at times during the latest stretch.

I would disagree with this. I think we are clearly better this year than last year. Record doesn't show it but schedule is much tougher than last year. Beyond that just watching the team play I think it is clear and that is true despite the loss of what were clearly our two best players on last year's team. I agree with you that we definitely waited too long to get rid of Sadler. But that is because we were trending down as a program during his tenure. We tried to hide that then by making the non-conference schedules easier and easier during that time -but people watching the team could see it. I think the opposite is true - there have been peaks and valleys in the process but overall the trend has been positive in Mile's tenure. We caught fire in his 2nd year and overperformed for a stretch which was very exciting and fun -but I think actually set us back the next season - partly because of the unrealistic expectations it created. While it has not been a smooth path the trend is upward and in that situation I think it is foolhardy to replace the coach and start over. Patience is a virtue that is missing all too often in todays fans.

Oh no I wasn't necessarily saying Coach Amy's style of coaching is "bad". Just saying that I'd like her to be a little tougher on Nicea. Just little things I notice - because I know my daughter - that would allow her to get more out of Nicea. Things that the average fan doesn't pick-up on because they see all the other things she does so well. I'm not going to say them out loud bc then you guys would be watching the games going, "Oh yeah she does do that!" Lol. But if we weren't confident in Coach Amy, and if Nicea didn't absolutely love this team I wouldn't even comment on these posts bc I'd know we didn't plan on being lifetime Huskers. I think we got to see what her style of play will be like at PSU game. It was a fun to watch it, just hope she can get better and more concsistant shooters.

oh man, hate to think where this team would be without the presence of Nicea. soooooo glad she became a husker. just a little surprised to read/hear the comments about coach williams style. although, first season and did walk into a hornets nest. just wonder if things won't change somewhat when the roster starts to fill up with more of her recruits. time will tell.

Put me in the crowd, really glad Nicea decided to become a Husker and not fall for Colorado's scare tactics. She's been a great surprise and has opened my eyes for what she can do on the court. Really glad to hear she likes being a Husker!

Some people need to get a grip. We've lost the last three games, one home and two on the road, by a combined total of eight points. And that is without Ed Morrow, who, if he had played, probably makes the difference between us going 0-3 and 3-0 in those last three games. Other guys, you might be able to replace their productivity with another player or combination of players. Not so with Ed. Everyone kind of needs to keep that in mind.

We're also playing without Morrow. While most people would say Tai is our most irreplaceable player, I actually would say Ed is. What Tai brings to the table in terms of scoring and slashing can be somewhat replicated by a number of other players on the team. But Ed, in addition to being that third scorer, is far and away our best rebounder, is the guy who sets the tone defensively, and is one of only two bona fide shot blockers we have. Put Ed in the paint, and Rutgers doesn't drive the lane with nearly as much success. And Jordy/Jacobson don't pick up 2 fouls apiece in the first 4 minutes against OSU. I know it's idle speculation, but with him in the lineup I think we win both by double digits and are sitting at 5-2. So yeah, even against some of the lesser teams in the B1G, losing by a single point without Morrow is understandable. If we're in the same position 12 months from now, then I'm OK having the fire Miles debate.

So we just need to schedule 39 minute 58 second games then

Who was suppose to replace White and Shields this year? No one expected Tai to be 2nd in the conference in scoring this year. He averaged 10.0 points per game last year. Now, he is at 18.1 points per game. Watson, averaged 8.6 points per game last year, is now avg. 14.8 points per game. He shot 26.7% from 3 last year, and this year is shooting 42.5% from 3. Contrary to popular belief, players have improved under Miles. Turner is playing much better. Next year, we will have more depth to help us withstand injuries. We have a backcourt of: Watson, Turner, Gill, and Palmer. We have wings of: Roby, Horne, McVeigh, and Nana. We have a frontcourt of: Morrow, Jacobson, Jordy, and Copleand.

On the plus side today, creighton just gave up a 100+ and got beat by Marquette. btw, crowd did not look real into it on TV at the clink. I wonder if the scribes will bust their chops as much as they do Husker fans at the Vault? If the crowd was more into the game, could have willed them to the win. Riiiiiiiiiiight.

Well said - Tai is the perfect example for anyone who goes through some struggles. The way he has just put his head down and worked and worked and worked -- rather than sulking and giving up and going somewhere else, as a lot of players would have -- has been simply tremendous. He has made himself into an All B1G player. And on top of it all, to be counted on to provide tons of leadership on a really young team and be asked to take and make huge shots late in games, that's a lot on his shoulders this season. Yet he has handled it all tremendously well, answering the bell every game. I hope folks in New Zealand are as proud of what he's done the past 4 years as we are here. He will be a very deserving 28th member of NU's 1000-point club in a few more games.
