  1. Who was suppose to replace White and Shields this year? No one expected Tai to be 2nd in the conference in scoring this year. He averaged 10.0 points per game last year. Now, he is at 18.1 points per game. Watson, averaged 8.6 points per game last year, is now avg. 14.8 points per game. He shot 26.7% from 3 last year, and this year is shooting 42.5% from 3. Contrary to popular belief, players have improved under Miles. Turner is playing much better. Next year, we will have more depth to help us withstand injuries. We have a backcourt of: Watson, Turner, Gill, and Palmer. We have wings of: Roby, Horne, McVeigh, and Nana. We have a frontcourt of: Morrow, Jacobson, Jordy, and Copleand.

  2. Some people need to get a grip. We've lost the last three games, one home and two on the road, by a combined total of eight points. And that is without Ed Morrow, who, if he had played, probably makes the difference between us going 0-3 and 3-0 in those last three games. Other guys, you might be able to replace their productivity with another player or combination of players. Not so with Ed. Everyone kind of needs to keep that in mind.

  3. Very interesting. We (Nicea) were recruited very heavily by WSU. We narrowed it down to 3 schools (out of 27 offers) which were Wichita State, Colorado University and Nebraska. After our visit to WSU we were almost 100% sure Nicea was going there. We really liked Coach Jody Adams. The allegations had just come out about her so I knew the main thing I wanted to ask her was to explain that situation. She was very open and honest and we left feeling pretty certain there was nothing to worry about. Almost didn't go on our visit to Nebraska we were so high on WSU, but Britney Brown - the assistant at the time under Coach Yori was so consistent recruiting Nicea that we felt like we owed it to her. Obviously after 2 days in Lincoln we fell in love with everything about NU. But I well say one of the things about the program we liked was the hard-nosed coaching style of Yori. Like I said before, Nicea actually thrives under that style. Not as much with a laid back style like Williams...anyhoo I don't know what happened at WSU and I do believe there is alot of abuse of players by coaches; but I also believe coaches aren't being allowed to discipline players like they used to be. This generation of kids don't have the same respect for authority as my generation or those before me. When a coach is tough on today's players they're more likely to report the coach to the AD vs. sucking it up and trying to get better. It's an epidemic with all these coaches getting investigated and/or fired for player abuse. Kinda sad actually. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk

  4. While it has taken a few years, Miles has now created a solid foundation of talent, better than we've had in a long time. I think we can all agree on that. But let's not make them out to be a top 15 recruiting class. This core group is young, consisting of 4 sophomores and 3 freshman, and while they are a definite upgrade in talent over past years, I can't expect them to already be on the level of, say, Kentucky's freshman and sophomores. They need development, training and experience, more so than recruits from higher profile teams. In short, they need time to get better. The sophomores have certainly shown growth from freshman to sophomore year. And some might also point to the fact that MIles surrounded them with more talented transfers, but keep in mind one four-star transfer left the team, and the other is out for the season with an injury. Now we have a third four-star recruit who has missed that last three games, and was hobbled in the fourth. And, oh by the way, we've lost the last four games. We beat Indiana and Maryland on the road. Every single conference game we've played has gone down to the last minute. We're going to win again, multiple times. And, we're going to lose again. Such is the way it is with a young roster being asked to step up in the wake of losing talent and experience due to injury or transfer. And finally, I know everyone is weary of the next year talk, but damn, we will have a complete starting five of 5 & 4 star recruits, with a 4 star coming off the bench. And the year after that will be basically the same. Considering the improvements everyone should make from one year to next, we ought to be pretty good. So regardless of what happens with the rest of this year, I think it would be wrong to say Miles isn't still on a good trajectory towards more conference wins and post season appearances.

  5. So from the year 2000 thru 2012 I never remember having the thought that we 'should' win a conference road game. I may be off and somebody can remind me of a conference roadie that they remember expecting to win but in my recollection those games were all losses before the opening tip. My point is that expectations have changed. That is a good thing. These losses are all still losses, but despite his record, this is how Miles has elevated this program. We have a legitimate roster and an expectation to win. You can be frustrated but I'll continue to think anyone wanting the fire Miles discussion to be a real thing is a crazy person. If you think the answer is to fire Miles after this season with a stacked roster and a former 5 star transfer coming in you are flat out crazy. I think the average conference margin last year was something like 1.6 ppg. This year is going to be about the same. That's on average a basket per game from running the table in conference. 18-0. Now, not gonna happen but my point is that if an incredibly young team can do that then there's plenty of reason to believe that that team can learn to win and collect Ws when the majority of that team is a junior/senior. If you just look with your eyes instead of glaring only at the win-loss column then it makes zero sense to blow all this up now.

  6. I would disagree with this. I think we are clearly better this year than last year. Record doesn't show it but schedule is much tougher than last year. Beyond that just watching the team play I think it is clear and that is true despite the loss of what were clearly our two best players on last year's team. I agree with you that we definitely waited too long to get rid of Sadler. But that is because we were trending down as a program during his tenure. We tried to hide that then by making the non-conference schedules easier and easier during that time -but people watching the team could see it. I think the opposite is true - there have been peaks and valleys in the process but overall the trend has been positive in Mile's tenure. We caught fire in his 2nd year and overperformed for a stretch which was very exciting and fun -but I think actually set us back the next season - partly because of the unrealistic expectations it created. While it has not been a smooth path the trend is upward and in that situation I think it is foolhardy to replace the coach and start over. Patience is a virtue that is missing all too often in todays fans.

  7. Barry Alvarez is the Manchurian Athletic Director. He was planted on the 1960s Husker teams as a mole to establish credibility and then destroy us in the 21st Century. Bud Wilkinson was the evil genius who devised the plot, but he wouldn't have bothered if he'd known we would go to the Big Ten. No plan is perfect.

  8. Put me in the crowd, really glad Nicea decided to become a Husker and not fall for Colorado's scare tactics. She's been a great surprise and has opened my eyes for what she can do on the court. Really glad to hear she likes being a Husker!

  10. On another note, kind of a funny story. We took our visit to CU Boulder and coach Linda Lappe - who was let go at the end of last season - seemed very pleasant. She wanted Nicea really bad. Which was understandable bc Nicea was the #2 player in Colorado and it would've been great to sign a homegrown kid to her program. We knew she was on the hot seat and we asked her and the AD about that on the visit. They both assured us she wasn't going anywhere anytime soon at all. Anyway, at the end of the visit she wanted Nicea to verbally commit, but we refused bc we told her we were going to Nebraska the following weekend and we'd decide after that visit. So the night before we're set to go to NU Coach Lappe calls Nicea at about 10p and I can see Nicea has a kind of worried look on her face. I ask her what's wrong and she says Coach Lappe said if I go on the trip to Nebraska she's taking the scholarship offer away. Needless to say that conversation pretty much took CU out of the equation bc I was not going to have a coach bully Nicea before she's even one of her players. Coach Lappe had another losing season and was let go, and I'm sure she's not an ugly person, but the pressure had her acting otherwise. We obviously made the right choice with Nebraska and in spite of our current struggles winning, Nicea loves everything about being a Husker! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk

  11. I see signs that this group is close to breaking through, though we may not see the fruit of it until next year (I know, I know...). We've hit the reset button after six years for two guys who never showed any signs of getting the program to the hump, much less over it. Not saying those guys didn't have their good moments, they did, but I believe Miles is close to busting through that glass ceiling. I really do. And, btw, he's taken a team to the NCAA tournament. Here, at Nebraska. He did it. I'm gonna give that guy AT LEAST as long as those other guys got, probably longer. If it's me, I wouldn't be entertaining the idea until this sophomore class are seniors.

  12. I'm pretty sure I read on the internet that Barry Alvarez was spotted on the grassy knoll in Dallas so there may be something to this theory. He probably had something to do with the Yori thing too. And don't even get me started on his role in global warming.

  13. Regrettably, not so sure if many of the old school hard nose coaches can exist much longer in today's women's game. It only seems to take one whiner, and schools out for the coach. (unless your winning big, and in the Top 10, and the AD and Chancellor are happy) Anyway, Actual...Coach Williams is in a little of a predicament right now and needs every body she can get on the floor. Hopefully the depth will improve. So, next year with more players on the squad, the staff can be a little more demanding.....if that's her(their) style. Nicea's been a huge asset to the team already...so glad she wasn't swayed by what were basically threats. Still feel like the team will keep improving...and will continue to develop... pretty much based on coach Amy's past track record. Needs good recruits to succeed. Not a new story.

  14. We were leading with 0:02 on the clock in both of these losses. Call me crazy, but that doesn't seem like the time to dust off the pitchforks.

  15. Watson, Roby, Horne, Copeland, Gill, Palmer, Nana, Taylor...we'll be okay as long as no one in the main rotation transfers. But every year (Petteway, Pitchford, White, etc) someone leaves who we don't expect. We HAVE TO avoid that this coming offseason.

  16. The frustration is that we are in every game. The frustration is that we seem to be right on the cusp of something big. The frustration is with the loss of these close games when everyone can recognize that we are only a few plays each game from being really, really good. The frustration IS NOT with the talent, effort, coaching or lack of a future. So as frustrated as I am, for as disappointed I am; I know, I really know that our future is bright. I am not trying to show a direct correlation, but in 1989-90 our record sucked(10-18), but you could see the talent. We then won a school-record 26 games, with only eight losses, in 1990-91. We are soooo very close this year, can next year be the turn around year???

  17. I think there are four players this year...that losing any of them makes it much more difficult to win Morrow Watson Jacobsen Webster Morrow and Jacobsen..because they complement each other so well...both benefit by having the other down low...both get rebounds and put backs..because both are doing their jobs. there are times when morrow gets a rebound and scores, but the hard work to get that board was done by jacobsen...and vice versa.

  18. In Sadler's last two years, we were losing a bunch of conference games by 30+ points. It wasn't just the number of losses, it was the fact that those losses were flat out embarrassing due to our talent deficiencies. There was no hope for improvement and for that reason Doc clearly needed to go. That is not the same situation that we find ourselves in today.

  20. Oh no I wasn't necessarily saying Coach Amy's style of coaching is "bad". Just saying that I'd like her to be a little tougher on Nicea. Just little things I notice - because I know my daughter - that would allow her to get more out of Nicea. Things that the average fan doesn't pick-up on because they see all the other things she does so well. I'm not going to say them out loud bc then you guys would be watching the games going, "Oh yeah she does do that!" Lol. But if we weren't confident in Coach Amy, and if Nicea didn't absolutely love this team I wouldn't even comment on these posts bc I'd know we didn't plan on being lifetime Huskers. I really appreciate having this forum to listen to all the different perspectives and support! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk

  23. oh man, hate to think where this team would be without the presence of Nicea. soooooo glad she became a husker. just a little surprised to read/hear the comments about coach williams style. although, first season and did walk into a hornets nest. just wonder if things won't change somewhat when the roster starts to fill up with more of her recruits. time will tell.

  26. I don't just look at wins like some people. We could very easily be 14-5 if we schedule differently and if we schedule differently and do not lose two one pointers we would be 16-3. So they won 20 games because of an easy schedule. Whoopdie Doo... We will be better next year and should be a tourney team like them. If last year they played the schedule we did this year, they do not win 20 games.

    Through seven games...

The opponents still have two that we can kick, correct?

  28. With two kicks in the nuts... that means they have no more nuts to kick! That means no more of these games.
    2 points
  29. I'm not giving up on this team (even though the last two games were a real kick in the nuts). This team could get hot before the season is over, especially if we can get Ed Morrow back.

  30. It actually took Collier deciding to leave, and in fact, he won 2 games in the Big 12 tournament, and made the NIT his final year before succumbing to the hopelessness that is Nebrasketball. Doc was getting ran out of the gym by everybody they played his last year. Miles' team is losing at the buzzer, and has won 2 road games against teams that have played good basketball. He has lost 4 games, with only 9 scholarship players, losing 2 key components to the rotation, to help with depth. Next year, if everyone stays healthy, we should have some serious depth to withstand injuries.

  32. This is about where I thought we would be. Granted the way we got here is very different that I could've expected but nevertheless we are here. 3-4 record W - Indiana W - Maryland W - Iowa L - Northwestern L - Michigan L - Ohio State L - Rutgers Where I had us 4-3 record L - Indiana L - Maryland W - Iowa W - Northwestern L - Michigan W - Ohio State W - Rutgers The last two losses come on last second shots/putbacks and the previous two are lost by three or less possessions each. I'm not saying there are any moral victories here by any means but this team is not far from flipping a couple of those L's into W's. the last two are excruciating gut punches but this team has tremendous toughness and will get back to work only to get better. It is tough sledding without Ed Morrow down low and that really hurts to know how much he effects the game in a positive way for us. It was great that we started off conference play 3-0 and there was a lot of talk about those three wins and that we could beat anyone in the conference on any given night, yada yada yada...Well, THAT IS STILL TRUE!!!! Yes we are on a four game skid right now, have some injury issues, fair weather fans are down on the team and people are calling for Miles to be fired (which is ridiculous, but hey, people will always call for the coach to be fired when losing, just the way people are, no matter who is the coach). So don't lose your heads yet Husker fans. Still a lot of games to go. This team has a lot of potential. We've seen how they can play. A win today would've got that good feeling back to take on the road to NW next week. But since we didn't get it, what are they to do? Quit? Say "we suck, we are on a four game skid, our hopes for any postseason play are over". No. Get back to work. Have some good practices and get the positive feelings flowing again, heads held high and go get a W at Northwestern. I know a lot of people on this board are not going to give up on this team/program. I just can't stand the people that are going to ride the highs and leave them for dead when we hit the lows. Go Big Red #Nebrasketball #USAlways
