  2. If I'm Kent Pavelka and you're Tim Miles I would add this to the first question: "Or do you not care as long as the guy can flat fill it up like nobody else?" And you say: "Bangarang"

  3. I thought he had recently turned 19, which with another year of reclassifying, and by the time the end of his freshman year ended would have been 21. Even then he would still be a 20 year old freshman at this rate. Noticed on his twitter account it states: "Born on August 17, 1997" So hes just old compared to everyone else in his class but still 18. He will still be a 20 year old freshman the first day he steps on a campus somewhere. At least his friends will be hitting him up for beer as a sophomore so he will be really popular. Just wait 'til he's a sixth-year senior: He'll be 26 shortly after his college graduation (without a Mormon mission, mind you!).

  4. I have been in a situation where I only played 6 girls the majority of the minutes all season. Some of that decision was based on lack of talent/experience but mostly it was because I didn't have "trust" in the other players. I think there was some of that with Coach Yori and some of her players. Coach-Player relationships are important and if you don't have those relationships you never build trust that those players will put it all on the line for their team. It's hard as a coach to put those players on the court because you feel you are hurting the players that put on the line every day in practice. I'm not sure I agree with downward trend, but I don't think the team reached it's potential either. I think Williams can run her system without a true PG, they will look to get the ball out and up the floor with various people passing it ahead to flow into offense. It will hurt at end of game situations and at end of clock when they need a playmaker to have the ball. They do have a very good post player they can throw it to though. I have to say I am surprised that Doyle didn't come, she would have started as a freshman.

  5. Though I don't follow recruiting very much, I am the eternal optimist in thinking that any recruit has a chance to make a big contribution to the team.

  6. That's a good point, and I feel that there is a good comparison as well. Though I am patient, I think the average fan, particularly in today's environment, wants RESULTS NOW! But it doesn't always work that way.

  7. Without getting into names of players, this is our roster: 6'0", 165# \ 6'3", 191# | 1s and 2s 6'4", 196# / 6'7", 204# \ 6'7", 216# | 6'8", 205# | 3s, pretty much? 6'8", 210# / 6'7", 220# \ 6'7", 225# | 4s 6'8", 222# / 6'11", 270# > 5 There seem to be pretty clear demarcation points between players at the various positions. The guards are all 6'4" or less and under 200#. The wings are all 6'7" or 6'8" and 204# to 216#. The 4s are all 6'7" or 6'8" and 220# to 225#. And the lone 5 is 6'11" and 270 and fits squarely into that single category. So, you're Tim Miles and I'm Kent Pavelka and I'm asking you what you want to do with that last scholarship. What kind of player are you looking at to fill that last roster spot? Let me also ask you this, Tim: The guys on the team who are 204# to 216#, are there significant differences in their skillsets or would they all fulfill the same basic role on the team? I would say I'll hang up and listen but since I'm Kent Pavelka, I guess I have to stay on the air. Anyway, Tim, what's the word?

And you say: "Bangarang" See, that's why you're the pro at this. That's a great way to finish that question. And if you were interviewing Doc Sadler rather than Tim Miles, instead of saying "Bangarang," he'd begin his answer by saying, "Agin ..."

will depend on how many guys sign, but we lose a lot also. Will need at least 2 infielders, a center fielder, and some pitchers. Jake P., Rev and Chesnut gone, no doubt Boldt is gone, and suspect Burkamper and Knudsen gone. Could see Miller being gone also. Will need to fill some holes. I guess it depends on how you look at it...I see us getting back 6 of 9 in the lineup...I don't see Ben Miller leaving, his game just does not fit in the pro's. I could be wrong, but I don't even forsee him being drafted. From what I have heard Knutson is gone for sure...but, we should be able to fill that void as he was our midweek starter just for the past few weeks. Burkamper will be the question mark....he may be the top prospect on the pitching staff but he did not show much in terms of velocity this year. Early in the year he was in low 80's and by the end he was mid-upper 80's. May have hurt his draft stock quite a bit. But, even if Burkamper decides to leave we return our #2 an #3 starters in addition to McSteen who I think will still end up being a quality starter. Burkamper will indeed be interesting; he was just never quite right this year, and I'm not sure there is a physical answer for the lower velocity. I think we're deeper and better off with pitchers than position players. In addition to McSteen, Engelken has really good stuff, if he can improve his control. King was much better in the conference tourney, albeit only 2 innings. And Hohensee should be back next year after Tommy John surgery. But we have to find a shortstop and third baseman, and perhaps an option at second if Schlep doesn't get it figured out. Forgot about Hohensee...he was one of my favorite arms on the staff. If he can regain his form that would be big for the backend of the pen if they don't ask him to be a starter. I see Alvarado filling in at third as I think thats his most natural position....not sure what's going on with Dilday but if he returns I would assume he takes over in left if Alvarado moves to third. Should be interesting to see how the rest shakes out....in the meantime hopefully we do some damage in the regional. Altivila should or could push dilday for a spot in left.Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Are you thinking of Klempke? Altavilla has been an infielder. He has performed well in the limited opportunities he has had.

    You know what? It's okay

Good analysis HoopsNut. I wouldn't feel as bad about Doyle if she would have went anyplace but Iowa.

Pretty good ball player who will only be a sophomore next season. Although the school we might have to steal from to get her is on I-35 just north of Des Moines. Zoe will have plenty of options on a national level not just regional schools. As of a couple of months ago she had offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan State, Louisville, and others. She is a 2019 recruit so there is time for Williams to get in the game with her.

  18. That's a good point, and I feel that there is a good comparison as well. Though I am patient, I think the average fan, particularly in today's environment, wants RESULTS NOW! But it doesn't always work that way. I think it makes a difference of the circumstances of the coaching change. If a team has finished in last place 2 of the last 3 years, and hasn't made the tournament in a dozen or so years (as was the situation when Miles took over), fans can be quite patient because they know a team is starting from scratch. There could be less patience with some when an administration changes out a program that has been very successful over the last 5-10 years.

  19. Would be nice to have a good showing but just making a regional is a nice spring board for the future. We return quite a bit next year so this will be good experience for some of the youngsters Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. Hey as a Fremontian I love her game. She is good in every facet of the game. Note I said good not great. What is great about her is her mentality. She reinvented her game twice in high school. The first time was to take a back seat and play with Jess and the second was to play without her. Will she be a star, I kind of doubt it. That being said she is the kind of player every coach needs to have on their team. Very focussed, smart and mentally tough.

  21. Once Cayton makes her final decision, I'll probably get into it more, but I think here's the point: The program didn't feel right over the last year or so. Now, obviously, there were some things going on, etc, but I think the recruiting got off kilter. I think there's a certain kind of player who fits well under Yori, and there were a lot of players in the program who were just...uneasy fits. Some of them left, some didn't. And there wasn't the same kind of trust built up over there that there needed to be. And some of that is on having new coaches, and some of that is on Yori, too, right? Remember: A lot of the vets on this team were not recruited by some of these assistants. Somewhere along the way, the "why" factor kind of got lost. I think it was a coaching staff full of grinders, of "focus on the next 45 minutes in front of you" types. Personally? I'm probably more prone to be like that, to grind, but I purposely try to have a foot in the other world. (I don't always succed!). One of Amy Williams' strengths, I can already tell, is she's pretty good at, uh, epistemology. There will be clarity about why things are being done, there will be a startingly consistent message, there will be belief in that method, and it will not seem haphazard. Over time, she needs to get talent who can track with her worldview.
