  1. I don't post much but I really like this board. I wanted to let people know about a friend of mine and her amazing Nebraska Basketball story. Today is her birthday and she turns 93. She has been a season ticket holder sense back when they were in the Colosseum. She still goes to games, although I'm not sure if she will be there today because of the snow and some recent health issues. But she is no quiet 93 year old. She knows the ref's names and knows which ones don't like Nebraska and yells at them. She doesn't leave early and makes it to as many games as she can each year. My earliest memories of Nebraska basketball games are going with my grandparents and their friends to the game and then to Denny's afterwards for a milkshake. While my grandfather has died and my grandmother no longer wishes to go to games we still make sure that my grandma's friend makes it to games that she can. So if she is at the game today lets get her a win for a 93 years young, but if she can't make it out today I know she watches all the games on TV. She is an inspiration to me because she has seen a lot in her life but she always has a smile on her face and always keeps going. Go Big Red!

  3. Ohio State has been a well tuned musical instrument not only when it comes to playing the Huskers, but pretty much when playing any opponent with lesser ability. Time for that to end. Tonight. Heck, why not? I think the BDSC has some magic left in it, and we're running out of opportunities to put that magic to use. Might as well be tonight. It will be interesting to see if Ray can build off his Minnesota performance. I'd imagine the Buckeyes will pay special attention to him, so who will step up tonight? Ubel is always solid, so, maybe it will be Talley or Shields. Possibly Rivers. I'd really like to see Almeida put together a solid performance. He's definately due. If Nebraska can get off to a decent start, the crowd could be a factor, and not be refered to as "The Roaring Silence". Let's pull off the upset and get some positive air time on Sports Center. GO BIG RED!

  4. I think Miles is being careful here. An offer should be coming but coach has to be sure. There is risk bringing in a JUCO and Miles had to be absolutely certain that Thomas can be an impact B1G player for us immediately next season. He busts and you've just wasted a spot that could've gone to a talented 2014 big when better prospects are more readily available, prospects we've been building relationships with for a longer period of time. This is about more that just filling a void because we need another big body on the roster. It shouldn't be forgotten that Miles can play small. Miles is gonna make sure he's sure. He's not gonna gamble years 3 and 4 away just because he had to fill a roster spot with a tall guy. He's pondering all options and think through all the possible consequences and ramifications.

  5. Norm I think it has more to do with a prep school that tries to get as many players as it can with talent but doesnt "recruit" to any specific type of offense. Plenty of prep school kids in the NE tend to not put up similar numbers they might at another HS because they arent a focal point or the right fit. Atewe was good enough to start for Canada's national U-19 team. I dont think he'd even be on the team if he wasnt good. I mean he started around guys going to Syracuse, Florida State, Indiana, and possibly Kentucky. Give him a chance to grow in a program that will develop him and you'll see why he has garnered 30+ offers.

  7. A few interesting Atewe moments in the videos above include the following. First video: (i) around the 18:00 mark, he does an impressive job of positioning and then using his athletecism to get an offensive rebound, is stuffed/fouled going back up for the shot, then makes one of two free throws; (ii) around the 20:40 mark, he gets a block, and (iii) despite having a very tall / thick post guy, the other team rarely takes the ball inside against Matthew--instead, around 21:30, the post guy settles for a three-pointed that misses badly. Second video: (i) around 12:20 Matthew gets a lay-in, (ii) at 13:45 he gets the ball on the block and is mugged by three players--no foul called, and (iii) at 13:55 gets a block.

  8. I thought it was kind of strange that they mentioned that too. But, in all fairness, on a national level Nebraska hasn't really ever been all that relevant in basketball, even during the Nee years. But consider this...Ole Miss is making a strong run towards an NCAA tourney bid this year, which would end a drought for them that dates back to 2002. Quick, without looking it up, who was the Ole Miss coach back then? Heck, who is their coach now, for that matter? From our own myopic viewpoint, it seems bizarre to think that Danny Nee is so easily forgotten. But really, he wasn't ever all that well known in the first place to joe basketball fan outside old Big 8 territory. That is all very true and valid young 49er. What irks me is this, if you've invested a Saturday afternoon watching a meaningless Nebraska/Northwestern game, the chances you've heard of Danny Nee are very high.

  9. Okay as the last game ever played at the Bob: "I WILL LEAVE AT THE UNDER 4MIN TIMEOUT." Never done it all my years of going, since it opened, but I want to see what I have been missing all these years. I mean it has to be something unbelievable to have so many do it each game. If it is something good like free food or a beer than it will become my new tradition at the new place.

  10. You've gotta make it home for the local sports report, so you can see highlights of the game you were just at. Right?

  11. It's a Devaney Center tradition. You'd hate to break with tradition on the last game played in the place, right?
