uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 8, Issue 11 - Rhode Island

      CWIli4QU8AAX0SM.jpg

Miles alluded to this on the post game show...we've basically lost the games we were supposed to and won the game we were supposed to...this was a coin flip game and we got it done at home.

We held a team that almost always out free-throws their opponent to 8 FTs. We needed to after the layup drill in the first half and the garbage 3s all game. That Martin technical was huge as all the sudden a guy who can kill you inside has 4 fouls early in the second half

    - On a small team, the guy who very well might be the best combination of size/rebounding/shooting very well might be Jacobson. Miles already stated he's starting next game.
    - Speaking of starting, Glynn Watson is moving towards it. He took and made some bad shots today in addition to some brilliant plays. 17 points, 1 turnover in 21 minutes. Dude is going to be one of the greats by the time he's done.
    - Speaking of one of the greats, Shavon poured in the points and then was able to adjust when met with opposition at the rim. Once again led the team in assists (3)
    - Andrew was an obvious target of their scouting and was harassed into 5 turnovers and 11 points. His adjustment to being the focus of a defense is ongoing
    - Benny had a so-so game but WHAT. A. SHOT!!!!
    - Tai apparently had an oblique injury and gutted it out (PUN!) attacking at the rim
    - Welcome back Nick Fuller! Nick came in for 11 minutes and didn't waste them
    - Jake and Morrow: casualties of Jacobson picking up his game and matchups. Can we play Morrow with Jake or Jacobson?

He was giving Four the business out there.  Loved it!

yes, anyone named Four is deserving of some business.

His parents must of watched the Seinfeld episode about naming a baby "Seven" in honor of Mickey.  Either that or he has brothers and/or sisters named One, Two and Three?

"Four" is basically a nickname. His given name is Patrick McGlynn IV

Sorry Dimes, my story line is better -- truth or not.

CWG, there was no problem with priorities with the UNL students from my house--both in attendance despite finals week.  The right priority; studying is overrated.

It was a great birthday present for 'ol HB today.

    Happy (belated) Birthday, HB!

    Yeah, HBD, HB! :D

So, for grins, a strictly 'tall' lineup would be:

    1 Webster 6'-4"

    2 White 6'-7"

    3 Shields 6'-7"

    4 Jacobson 6'-8"

    5 Hammond 6'-10"

Sure, why not?  Those are all rotation guys and Tai played some point the other night when neither Benny nor Glynn were on the floor.  (Wasn't a long stretch, but it did happen.)  You'd have a shooter at the 2.  You'd have a slasher who can sometimes shoot at the 3.  You'd have a 4 who could step out and hit mid-range jumpers out to three-point range but can post a little inside as well.  And you'd have a 5 who is long.   And your PG would be a guy who has some ability to take players off the dribble and get to the rack.  So, what the hell, right?

Sure, that's a viable lineup as any with a 1 through 5 included.

So does having Jacobson in there say more about him, or more about Ed?  I personally think we got a diamond in the rough with Jacobson.  We are going to have a tough group of 4's with this freshman class once all is said and done.  Ed will come around and we will be tough at the 1 and the 4 for sure.  Most likely the 3 too!

Nah, it says that Jacobson is an inch taller than Ed, at this point. ;)

NU could also roll out an all-6'7ish lineup as well.

Could Ed play the 3 at any time in his career?

It might be a stretch, but I think he could get there. He'll have to be able to guard quicker players without fouling, though. And score away from the hoop, obviously.

He'll have to be able to score by means other than offensive rebounds.

    I don't see it.

Was just thinking out loud. I watched him in warm ups on Sunday and he does have a nice jumper from just outside the elbow that he made like 4 or 5 times. So he can shoot I would guess. He does love the dunk though.

To me, Ed doesn't have the physical stature of a wing. He's a four, though he's short for that position. Ed's kind of a tweener as far as his body type. He needs a ton of physical and skills development before he's going to be able to have a big impact in my opinion. Right now he's not able to be much of a factor, which is probably why he's not playing much.

It's amazing to me that even at an elite program like Simeon, there doesn't appear to be much fundamental skills development going on. Ed's entire game in high school was to run down the court, get a pass and dunk the ball. He doesn't appear to have any back-to-the-basket game at all. He has a ton of work ahead of him.
