    uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 9, Ed 13 - @ Indiana

    That was fun!

    - What to say! They just went out and took it to the Hoosiers. They withstood the IU run to end the first half and responded. There's a lot of really great things to take from this.

    - I think we've found our 8 man rotation.

    - Zero minutes from McVeigh. We'll see him again, I think, but he's gonna have to earn it when he gets his chances.

    - The freshmen looked like Big Ten players and under the Big Ten lights they didn't buckle.

    - Ed is a man. I was worried when he fouled out, but dang, he is tough to handle.

    - I was suprised they went with the 3 guard lineup to start. But clearly coach thinks that's the best 5 to start games. It was telling Roby was on the floor in crunch time and not Jordy when Ed went out.

    - So, I think Horne's earned some more minutes, huh?

    - Watson went straight cold-blooded killer down the stretch.

    - The Watson and Webster tandem is going to be one of the better back courts in the conference. I'm not the first to say that, but you're probably gonna get 35-40 a night from that duo. That's a solid base to build off of.

    - Though Jacobson did a lot of dirty work tonight that people aren't going to see in the box score. Would be great if he could get a little more going in the scoring column, though.

    - I don't know what switch was flipped at halftime, but they handled that zone 10 times better in the 2nd half than they did in the 1st. Roby, particularly made quick decisions and found open shooters. Tonight they hit some of those shots. He also missed some opportunities to get to the rim. When he learns to do that, he's gonna be a real handful.

    - If outworking teams becomes the MO of this team, they're going to have a nice conference run. If they can combine that with the talent they've got on the floor more often, like they did today, the future suddenly becomes very, very bright.

    - They have 3 games I think they'd really like to have back: Clemson, Virginia Tech and, of course, Gardner-Webb. They canceled out one of them tonight.

    - The real test will be how they build off this win. Do they play well vs. Maryland? What about when they come home vs. Iowa and Northwestern? This game will increase in value if do. Three years ago, they rode the wave of the win in MSU to the dance. This team is more talented than that one, but not sure if they're ready to do that yet. Last year, they didn't really capitalize on the win at Mich. St. Hopefully they do this time.

    - This is the first time since joining the Big Ten that NU has opened conference play with a win. Kinda nice for a change.

    - I thought the difficult non-conference schedule came into play tonight. You could tell the guys weren't afraid of Assembly Hall. They'd gone into Allen Fieldhouse and held their own for much of that game and KU is better than IU. They'd taken #2 and undefeated UCLA to the wire. They're better than the Hoosiers, too. I'm guessing it'll be a fairly sleepy atmosphere in Maryland on Sunday. Hopefully the Huskers will be wide awake and can sneak one out of there, too.

Hey brfrad!  :)   How do you do that?

Huskers.com usually has an archive of the radio broadcast.   I used to find it, and sync the broadcast with the football game replays.  The only bad part was that the radio archive would play the commercials.  I just fast forward about 2 minutes per commercial,  and pause the TV until they sync up again.

The question that will determine how successful our conference season is this a team who is a good 3 point shooting team, that was ice cold in the non conference, and the percentage is going to start going up to match that?  Or, is this a poor shooting 3 point club, who just had a good night?

After reading some different teams message boards, (Indiana included) I have come to the conclusion that it's just a necessity that "Fire _________" threads get started after a loss.  They literally happen on about every fricking board.

    Yup

Didn't get to watch any moment of the game...did we do anything different offensively? Could this team be better away from home?

Way different offensively.  Against zone, we had Roby flash at the high post and ran the offense through him.  He was a great facilitator.  We also pushed tempo and beat Indiana at their own game on occasion.

Mostly, though, Miles trusted the young talent to be just that--talented--and they were.  We're a much different team when we have Roby, Horne, and Jordy getting real minutes.  They really are among our best players and, at times, any of those three can be the best/most dominant player on the court.  Talent can make any philosophy work.

We might not see a lot of 2-3 zone when Roby and Horne are on the floor together.  Isaiah was doing a great job in the high post finding the gap in the zone and making a pass to an open shooter.  If he ever decides he's capable of hitting that mid-range jumper, look out.

Pump, drive, dunk. We'll see that one, too.

Roby..............  It's extremely rare to be able to do what he does at 6'8".  We can run an offense through him and he is the ultimate zone buster from the high post.  I am so glad this kid is suiting up for us.

Well, let's take a little closer look at that. coming into the game, NU was shooting .293 on the season. That's bad. Really, really bad.

Seven Huskers have attempted a 3: Webster, Watson, Horne, Gill, McVeigh, Roby and Jacobson. Yesterday, that final quartet, 30/121 on the season, attempted just one. If those were all of NU's attempts from 3, it would easily be worst in the NCAA. The trio of Webster, Watson and Horne is hitting .379 beyond the arc and went 9/17 from 3. It's better than their season averages, for sure, but if those 3 were where all our season attempts came from, they'd be a top 70 team. We'll steadily move up the ranks if those 3 are where the bulk of our attempts come from.

And, FTR, I think McVeigh and Roby are capable shooters.

Did the dude that wore #3 IU think it was TBT with the shorts he was wearing.

It's the latest trend these days. Seeing all throughout basketball. You'd see some NU players doing it, too, but they wear the leggings which masks it some. At least one of the walk-ons is all in on this trend.

I saw only 1 bad play on defense by Horne, tonight.  He was guarding his man on the wing, Indiana got the ball to Bryant at the top of the key, beyond the 3 point line.  Horne left his man to go towards Bryant.  Bryant passes to the guy Horne was on, and the Indiana guy buries a 3.  Every player has that kind of play, though, but for the most part Horne played a very good all-around game.

I thought Jordy played pretty well, given who he was going up against.  A tough match-up, and Bryant went 5 for 12 from the floor.

That was, IIRC, the only time I yelled at the TV (because we all know how effective that is) "don't leave your man like that Jeriah". But overall there is a big improvement in Jeriah's defense over the last few games. He is not nearly as stiff, which I now think was due to nervousness and maybe overthinking. Now he's more relaxed and much of that stiffness on D, which allowed him to get beat easily off the dribble, is gone.

He had a pretty heady play on Bryant after the big man got the ball in the paint, fouling him and making sure he didn't put down a dunk or a dunk + foul shot.

Roby IS the reason why it changed.  He is actually at athlete at that size and has amazing hands with the ability to distribute the ball out of the post.  MJ is a muscle and hustle guy but hes not known for having good handles or having the ability to find guys moving without the ball other than just passing it back to the top of the arc.  Roby can hit the shot, flash down the lane and pass out to an open shooter, or just thrown it down like he did last night.  I think you will see much more of him when teams go zone on us to break said zone up.

    The Minute After: Nebraska

    Yikes.

No room for excuses tonight because the reality is this: Nebraska outplayed Indiana. The Cornhuskers deserved the victory. This is a Nebraska team that entered the contest with the worst offense in the Big Ten, one with just the 313th ranked eFG% in the country. One that lost to Gardner Webb at home a mere 10 days ago and entered the contest just 6-6. One that KenPom gave just a nine percent chance of emerging victorious.

During its 26-game home winning streak, the Hoosiers beat some of the nation’s very best teams. But tonight the streak ends against a middling Cornhusker squad(*) it had no business losing to.
