    Scouting Southern

Too emotional to create such a thread

Player to watch: Shawn Prudhomme, Jared Sam, Tre'lun Banks

The Jaguars play a lot of guys but these three are the mainstays, logging 30+ minutes per game and averaging over double digits. Banks is the point guard who leads the team in assists, draws contact, and is a decent outside shooter; he's also turnover prone. Prudhomme is the leading scorer who is shooting from outside at a 47% clip and the second leading rebounder. Sam is your prototypical slender SWAC post player who tends to rip through Nebrasketball with pump fakes all night long.

    The Skinny

Sunday was like one of those movies where a bunch of bad things happen to you and then someone comes and kicks you in family jewels. Part of the advantage of a tough lineup to begin the year is that it can prepare your team for the rigors of conference play. However, it can also tear apart your confidence and make you question everything.  Right now, the Huskers are questioning everything.

They face a Southern team that has been struggling a bit against a tough schedule but one with so many juniors and seniors that I couldn't believe it wasn't a bunch of JUCO players. While they play a style of basketball that matches up well with what Nebraska wants to run they are going to be a tough out even with a good effort from Nebraska. The Jaguars aren't as bad of a shooting team as they seem and this veteran squad won't be intimated at all by Christmas Break PBA.

Did that last game break Miles in what can be a positive way?  In some regards this team is starting to look like the lost 2014-15 team who never could get their offense going and slugged unhappily the entire year.  Can he see he's in this same loop? There are a lot of arm chair coaches with all the answers but to me what will Miles do vs what he should do is the question.  It very well could involve a youth movement as losing sort of takes away the excuse of rookie mistakes costing you games. It could be a philosophy change as maybe this team starts shifting towards an offensive mindset. It could be nothing.

That Vegas won't drop a number should tell you something about the uncertainty of this game.

    Prediction: Nebraska 84 - Southern 72 with a 93% chance of Runzas

    Dream lineup prediction

    Watson

    Webster

    Roby

    Morrow

    Jordy

We can dream but I think you have 4 right. Which of jordy or Roby will or will not start and who takes their spot.

    Much more likely it's

    Watson

    Webster

    Roby

    Jacobson

    Morrow

This actually seems like a Jordy doesn't play as much because they don't have a center sort of game

    Ron it didn't work ??

Thanks SD, but I'm not quite sure whether you mean to say the line-ups don't show up on your computer screen (or something else ;)).  They do show up on my computer screen (but it is the same computer I used to make the post).  Disregarding that, the line-ups show up ok on my I-pad if I go to HHC; But if I go to another computer I have or my 'droid cell it shows as an 'upload'  (that I can't open ).

So If they don't show up on your screen perhaps I can elevate it to the Dimes Level and see if I can do anything to fix it.

    Thanks.  :)

You're probably right.  Coaching from this perspective is so far beyond idiotic.  "They have a bunch of guards and small forwards."  "Oh, better not play our enormous, efficient, 4* center then.  He might not be able to block a 30ft jumper from the opposing team's big."

Why don't we want layups and free throws?

you have to think this is the lineup next year minus webster. jacobson doesn't seem like he'll ever be effective as a true center, and jack does not appear to be the shooter we all thought.
