While I understand resurrecting this thread will bother most here (even me).

It did give me some satisfaction to watch the orange lose to Georgetown 78 - 61 last weekend...but

Seeing this Wednesday's score and the stats of a third generation dude was strangely satisfying!

St Johns 93 (Now 6-7)    Syracuse 60 @ the carrier dome.

While that dude was  1/6 for 2 points in 37 minutes with 4 turnovers...(he did get 7 rebounds...those rebounds may have kicked out quite a ways!)

AWIII is as gone as yesterday's oatmeal. But while we are dredging names from the past, I noted on the local news yesterday that Walter Pitchford has designed and marketed some sort of app for phones that lets you access discounted items. I, for one, wish both of these guys success in their future endeavors and wish them some holiday cheer for what they contributed to the program when they were here.

You are a good person, Jimmy.   My sentiments are not yet where yours are with regard to AWIII and his papa.   Despite the holiday season, I'm not nearly good enough to get there yet.

Syracuse: 7-5, 202 RPI (14 of 15 in ACC), 0-1 against Top 25, Biggest win: Monmouth (55 RPI), Worst loss: St. John's (204 RPI)

Three of the numerous places (because he was SO sought after) he/his dad "turned" down:

Michigan State: 8-5, 90 RPI (12 of 14 in Big Ten), 0-4 against Top 25, Biggest win: Wichita State (80 RPI), Worst loss: Northeastern (125 RPI)

VCU: 8-3, 28 RPI (1 of 14 in Atlantic 10), 0-1 against Top 25, Biggest win: LSU (64 RPI), Worst loss: Georgia Tech (172 RPI)

Miami: 8-2, 78 RPI (12 of 15 in ACC), 0-1 against Top 25, Biggest win: Stanford (43 RPI), Worst loss: Iowa State (126 RPI)

So . . . we now know that Andrew White III left Nebraska for a one-and-done win in the NIT.

In looking at his stats from last year and this year, here is one big difference:  29.7 minutes per game at Nebraska and 37.2 minutes per game at Syracuse.  It looks like he played 40 minutes this year in nearly every game that mattered.  Apparently you can do that in a zone defense where you stick around a small area almost exclusively.

But with an extra 7.5 minutes per game, his average points are: 16.6 points per game at Nebraska and 18.8 points per game at Syracuse.

He shot a higher percentage at Nebraska (.481 from the floor and .412 from three) than at Syracuse (.441 from the floor and .403 from three).

He had more rebounds per game at Nebraska (5.9) than at Syracuse (4.6).

And here is a common sentiment from a Syracuse fan: "I'm glad it's over. One of my least favorite teams. Time for a change"

Perhaps his zone defense at Syracuse will help him for the NBA?  But it seems unlikely, since they play man there.

We certainly could have used, this year, his three point shooting, his maturity, and the depth he would have provided.

It will be interesting to see how his NBA prospects turn out over the upcoming weeks.

Be careful about suggesting the extrapolation of stats to 40 minutes, may get you in trouble with some folks around here!  But yes his per/40 stats and percentages are pretty much worse across the board compared to last year.

Fran said on the broadcast (paraphrasing, had it on in the background this morning when doing some stuff around the house so may not have caught all of it) that he thought D-League or overseas for White.  Thought at best maybe he catches on with some type of 3-point specialist role on team, but lack of quickness and ball handling skills will hurt him.

I never understood Syracuse as a good option for white...if he was trying to improve his stock for the draft....

playing zone...standing in one area will not impress the scouts...

Which is why it was a good fit IMO, to try to hide his flaws as best he could.  He is a good player, but a flawed player.  I do think he could carve out a niche in the right NBA team, but most likely flaws too great.  We sure needed him this year is all I know.  I am glad his career is over and really glad he didn't go dancing.

It was kind of poetic justice that White did not make the NCAA tournament and Anthony Bratton did not make the state tournament. Both left their former teams in a lerch leaving as late as they did.

"Andrew played great the whole year,” Boeheim said after an NIT loss to Ole Miss ended Syracuse’s season. “We [were] a little disadvantaged with him at forward because of his size. That hurt us on the boards; that hurt us defensively."

    Free agent or 2nd rounder??
