Top 100 PG Glynn Watson joins Michael Jacobson as the Husker's second underclassman recruit for 2015. Glynn is from Westchester, IL where he plays for St. Joesph's HS and the Illinois Wolves AAU squad. Watson made his announcement Sunday, canceling an upcoming recruiting trip to Creighton.
The Huskers suffer a huge blow to their NCAA tournament aspirations for 2014-15 after losing Leslee Smith to an ACL tear in his left knee after landing awkwardly during a layup attempt at the FIBA CBC Championships playing for the British Virgin Islands.
Smith already has used up his redshirt during his freshman year at SMU when he tore his right ACL. Should he decide to rehabilitate and come back for 2015-16, he should be eligible for a medical redshirt. The decision of whether to redshirt Jacob Hammond might change should the roster unchanged at the start of the season. Hammond, Pitchford, and Moses Abraham are the only remaining scholarship players over 6'7" on the roster at this point.
The 6-9" 247# graduate transfer from Georgetown has one remaining year of eligibility and will immediately be able to play during the 2014-15 season. Here is an example of the defensive presence he should bring for the Huskers
The Huskers have two scholarships remaining for the 2014-15 season.
Expect the 6'2" freshman to immediately play minutes in a PG rotation with Benny Parker, allowing Tai Webster to shift back to his natural position of SG. Smith has been facing plenty of Div I competition during his playing time at HOF coach Bob Hurley's St. Anthony's program in addition to the Jersey based Sports U AAU squad.
Smith was a 4.0 high school student and expects to immediately enroll in summer classes at Nebraska this June.
