Huskers Continue Clashes with Champions at Creighton

The No. 25/22 Nebraska women's basketball team takes on its third consecutive 2012 conference champion when NU travels to Creighton on Wednesday at D.J. Sokol Arena. Tip-off between the Huskers Bluejays is set for 7:05 p.m, with live video available to HuskersNside subscribers through a shared stream from GoCreighton.com.

Nebraska, which is coming off a 60-51 win over Idaho State, will be facing its sixth 2012 postseason qualifier. The Jays return four starters from a 20-13 team. CU earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after winning the Missouri Valley tournament title. CU will be NU's fourth 2012 NCAA Tournament foe of the year.

Creighton also has faced a strong early schedule, as the Huskers will be CU's third top-25 opponent of the season. The Jays opened with a 69-48 loss to No. 12 Oklahoma and suffered a 58-48 loss to No. 22 Kansas on Nov. 25. Both of those games were on CU's homecourt. Creighton owns road wins at South Dakota State, South Dakota and BYU.

All-America candidates Jordan Hooper and Lindsey Moore lead the Huskers. Hooper produced her third double-double of the year with 29 points and 10 rebounds against Idaho State. She is averaging team-bests of 17.9 points and 8.8 boards per game. Moore has added 15.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.8 steals while producing double figures in NU's first eight games.

Nebraska leads the all-time series with Creighton 27-10, including seven consecutive victories.

Moore to Move to No. 9 on NU List with 107th Straight Start

Senior All-America candidate Lindsey Moore joined the Nebraska career top 10 by making her 106th straight start in the Huskers' win over Idaho State on Saturday. The 5-9 point guard from Covington, Wash., has started every game of her Husker career since leading the Huskers to a perfect 29-0 regular-season record and the Big 12 title as a freshman in 2009-10.

Moore owns a 75-31 record as Nebraska's starting point guard and has guided the Huskers to a pair of NCAA Tournaments. With a start against Creighton, Moore will make her 107th straight start, moving ahead of Nebraska's 1993 Wade Trophy winner Karen Jennings (1990-93) at No. 10 and into a tie with Husker legend Maurtice Ivy at No. 9 (107) in overall career starts.

Lindsey Moore's streak of 106 consecutive starts for the Huskers is among the longest active starting streaks in the nation. Moore's streak trails only Texas Tech's Monique Smalls, who enters the week with 108 straight starts. Penn State's Nikki Greene also enters the week with 106 consecutive starts.

In addition to challenging the Nebraska record for most consecutive starts and career starts in Husker history this season, Lindsey Moore is on pace to shatter the NU record for minutes played.

The 5-9 point guard from Covington, Wash., recently moved past Husker legends Karen Jennings (3,369) and Maurtice Ivy (3,327) on the Nebraska career minutes list. Moore enters the Creighton game ranked No. 8 in career minutes played with 3,422. She became just the eighth Husker in history to play 3,400 career minutes, when she crossed that milestone in the win over Idaho State.

Looking at common opponents we have one. Creighton went to South Dakota St and won 63-54 where the Huskers went there and lost 60-55.

They lost to Oklahoma 69-48 and Kansas 58-48 in Omaha. But last Wednesday might have been the best comeback in school history as they were on the road down 18 to BYU and came back in the last 7 minutes of regulation to tie and then won in ot 65-62. Going to be a tough one by all accounts.

Wow, it's really a struggle for the Huskers these days. Too many players who can't shoot have to be on the floor at any one time. We continue to be pitiful from 3 point land. They took Hooper out of the game. Needed to have Cady step up but the sophomore slump continues.

Gotta defend the three point line!!!! I think everyone of Creighton's three point shots were uncontested! They drove the lane where we collapsed and then dished it out to the open player on the perimeter every time for a wide open 3 pointer. Very frustrating to watch it keep happening time and time again and no adjustments were made to combat it.

Hooper winds up with NO points!! Unbelievable! In her defense they double teamed her once she got her hands on the ball which left Sample wide open the entire game. Sample scored a career high 20 points as a result. I lost count on how many airballs we shot though. Theriot's defense is becoming a big liability she is getting beat off the dribble virtually every time down the court.

Lindsey was steady as usual, she had 15 points and 6 assists.

Brandie Jeffery left in Lincoln?? What's that all about? We needed her big time tonight!

Row 6, Brandi's grandmother passed away and she is back home to attend her funeral. She may not be back for Florida State saturday.

It sounded like Cady had some air balls, near air balls, and bricks. When Hoop is double-teamed, someone has to step up and make them pay. Sample is doing it to the best of her abilities. Need another shooter. Theriot is struggling with her shot as well as with her defense.

Thanks HB I didn't know about Brandi or did the people around me. Hope everything's all right for her.

I'm still seething over our inability to defend the three point line.

Laudermill made the most of her opportunity tonight and played very well on the offensive side of the ball. Little Sadie Murren also played fairly well for the short time she was on the floor. She had some questionable foul calls go against her.

Connie essentially agreed with you in her post-game comments. She was much more critical of our defense than our offense. Said we played like we have practiced with regard to defense. Didn't play within our system, make the proper rotations, communicate, and couldn't defend the drive, causing us to leave the shooters.

This game was exactly like the South Dakota St. game. Terrible terrible defense and our offense didn't look much better. The only main difference between last year's team is Kaitlyn Burke is gone and Theriot is starting. Now I'm not saying Theriot is the entire problem but somehow our chemistry isn't there this year. We are shooting horrible this year, especially from 3 point land. Moore is great at 13-26 50% but the rest of the team is poor. Hooper is 28%, Laudermille 3-18 13%, Theriot 2-13 15%, Murren 6-21 28%, Jeffrey 2-15 13%, Cady 2-15 13% (and she seems to not even come close with all her air balls). We have absolutely no inside game (thanks to Yori's recruiting) and won['t win many games if we continue to shoot so poorly. Sadly, you can't coach a kid to be a better shooter from 3 point land.

Theriot needs to learn to take the shot when she's open and quit making the ill advised hard passes. Yes a few times she'll make a great pass but there are far more bad ones than good ones. She leads the team with 24 turnovers with 22 min. of playing time. Next closest is 17 TO's by Moore who plays 30 min. Theriot needs to learn to drive to the basket and score or get fouled. All it looks like she's thinking is how or where she can make a pass. I haven't given up on her but I have to say I was expecting a little more out of her after reading her high school profile and listening to Yori. And I know she's only a freshman. She can only improve.

Sample had a great night. She needs to continue going to the basket. I wish she could hit a 3 once in a while so they don't just sag way in when she has the ball on the arc.

Murren had an earlier game where she hit several 3's and I thought maybe we had a shooter but that seems so long ago and was a fluke night it appears.

I don't know what's up with Mauer? Is her back still bad and that's why is so ineffective when she plays?

I've always been a huge women's fan from the beginning and will no matter what. But I got to tell you, I think this will be the last time we're a top 25 team this year. Heck, unless Yori does a lot better job of recruiting we won't see a rated women's bb team for a long time. Sorry for the negative rant but I had high hopes for this team this year and it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

I'm not ready to give up on this team yet. They showed last year they have to capabilities to get the job done and I believe they can do it again. Once they get the kinks worked out they're bound to get back on the winning side. I hope anyway. I'm thinking maybe Sample and Hooper ought to change positions and put Sample on the post. That way maybe teams would think twice should they decide to double team Hooper, Sample would be right there for the easy 2-3 foot shot.

It had to be a big dose of reality for the Husker coaches with Creighton ties last night as the Creighton student section started the infamous "Over Rated" chant among others towards the end of the game.
