Unbeaten Huskers Hope to Keep Rolling Against River Hawks

The Nebraska women’s basketball team continues its four-game home stand by playing host to UMass-Lowell on Wednesday evening at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tip-off between the No. 10 Huskers (5-0) and the River Hawks (0-4) is set for 7 p.m.

Nebraska improved to 5-0 on the young season with an 87-64 win over preseason Southwestern Athletic Conference favorite Southern.

UMass-Lowell is in its first season as a transitional NCAA Division I program, making the leap from Division II. The River Hawks are a traditionally strong program that posted an 18-9 mark in Coach Sarah Behn’s second season in 2012-13. A former Northeast-10 Conference member, UML is in its first season in the America East Conference.

With the move up to Division I, UML as experienced a true overhaul of its roster, with 13 players lost from last season’s 17-player roster.

The River Hawk roster is filled from top to bottom with nine freshmen while a pair of junior transfers add to a group of 11 newcomers.

Wednesday’s game between Nebraska and UMass-Lowell will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Emily Cady is nearly averaging a double-double with 14.6 points and 9.4 rebounds

Huskers win it 77-42. JHoop with a double double 25 points 10 boards. Emily Cady with 14 pts and 7 boards. Katie Simon playing her arse off tonight 9 points 6 rebounds but 4 fouls.

Right where we wanted to be at this point of the season but need to get better play from the bench.

Thought we played down to the competition. Lack of blocking out underneath and not fighting through screens on the perimeter reared it ugly head too many times.

Thought we just looked slow all night.

The bench has got a long way to go to be consistent enough to play with the big girls in the B1G.

It sure would be nice to get more consistent shooting around the arc.

Emily passes up that 8 - 10 foot shot too much when she's open.

Good to get lots of experience minutes for players that seldom see the court.

Not a good sign when right before the half our coach has them hold the ball in the back court for a ten second call. Need to have that entire bench including coaches with their heads in the game at all times.

The Huskers if you remember started sluggish last year too and didn't really come out of it the until the middle of January. Just hope that isn't the case again this year.  We need to be more sharp when we head to North Carolina next week and when Creighton comes to PBA.

Good crowd for a Thanksgiving eve, 5019 announced attendance.

Here's a must, plan to eat across the street from Pinnacle Bank Arena at the Mellow Mushroom. You won't be disappointed.

Good takes, Row 6.  After our first 4, the fall off is dramatic.  Havers shows flashes but is just young.  She'll be a good player eventually.  The others--it looks doubtful.

I would agree.  This team needs to improve its depth dramatically.  I'm thinking we will be schooled by North Carolina big time and Creighton will be a challenge.

Definitely not a top ten team at this point.
