Huskers Head to Iowa for Saturday Clash with Hawkeyes

The Nebraska women’s basketball team closes its first half of Big Ten Conference play by traveling to Iowa on Saturday afternoon.Tip-off between the Huskers and the Hawkeyes is set for 2 p.m.

The Huskers head to Iowa after producing their best all-around performance with an 84-51 win over Michigan. All-American Jordan Hooper led the Big Red with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Hooper heads to Carver-Hawkeye arena averaging 19.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.

Junior forward Emily Cady has matched Hooper with a Big Ten-best nine double-doubles on the year, averaging 14.1 points and 9.4 boards per contest, including 15.1 points and 11.0 boards in Big Ten play.

Sophomore point guard Rachel Theriot has added 13.0 points and 6.2 assists on the season, after producing her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 11 assists against the Wolverines.

Iowa enters Saturday’s game with Nebraska as one of the Big Ten’s hottest teams, winning five of its last six conference games. The Hawkeyes improved to 5-3 in the Big Ten and 17-5 overall with a 64-56 victory at Minnesota on Wednesday to complete a season sweep of the Golden Gophers.

The primary reason for Iowa’s balance is junior point guard Samantha Logic, who is averaging 13.8 points, a team-best 6.5 rebounds and a Big Ten-leading 7.2 assists.

Nebraska leads the all-time series with Iowa, 10-7, including a 6-0 record as Big Ten Conference foes.

    Probable Starters:

    Nebraska Cornhuskers

    3 - Hailie Sample - 6-1 - Jr. - F - 5.9

    23 - Emily Cady - 6-2 - Jr. - F - 14.1

    35 - Jordan Hooper - 6-2 - Sr. - F - 19.4

    33 - Rachel Theriot - 6-0 - So. - G - 13.0

    1 - Tear’a Laudermill - 5-9 - Jr. - G - 9.6

    Iowa Hawkeyes

    22 - Samantha Logic - 5-9 - Jr. - G - 13.8

    23 - Theairra Taylor - 5-11 - Sr. - G - 10.9

Jordan Hooper moved past Kelsey Griffin into third on the Nebraska career scoring list. Hooper needs 78 points to catch Maurtice Ivy (2,131) in second on NU’s scoring list.

Hooper is tied for third with Karen Jennings on the Nebraska career rebound chart and needs 19 rebounds to catch Kelsey Griffin in second with 1,019. Janet Smith owns the NU career record with 1,280 rebounds.

Hooper owns 35 career double-doubles and will tie Jennings in second on the NU all-time list with her next double-double. Hooper needs five to tie Griffin’s school-record 40. Hooper is tied with teammate Emily Cady for the Big Ten lead with nine double-doubles this season.

Emily Cady is tied for the conference lead with Michigan’s Cyesha Goree with 11.0 rebounds per league contest. Cady is also tied for 12th in Big Ten-only scoring (15.1 ppg) and ranks ninth in Big Ten-only assists (4.4 apg). She ranks fifth in free throw percentage (.905) in conference play, while ranking in the top 15 in both blocked shots and assist-to-turnover ratio.

Rachel Theriot is coming off her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 11 assists.

Couldn't be happier to see it.

And someone on here said she hasn't improved her game from last year. Also Iowa is getting home cooking Huskers could be ahead by 20 to 30 if the game is called both ways.

No doubt on the home cooking. This could have easily been a blow out.

Got to think that Tee has been showing up in practice though as she's been getting more and more minutes, or at least it seems that way. And this is one time where I wasn't nervous at all when Rachel went out. Tee just making really good decisions.

If we got 4 scorers on the floor tho...and Hailie doing her thing with some bench help, could contend after all.

Sample actually hit a 15 footer today wish she could do more of that then the other team would have to play her honestly.

Yeah, I think she picks her spots well. She went 3-5 from the floor and 4-4 from the line with 6 boards (3 big offensive boards).

Haven't compared numbers from last year, but it seems to me her production is improved.

Thought maybe there might be a drop off after the last game, good to see everyone still firing away.

And to what Row6Seat10 said about Connie/Bluder, I feel like it's plain to see after reading between the lines in press conferences and quotes that there's a little bit of a rivalry between these coaches and they both loathe to lose to the other.

Might have to get some popcorn and find Bluders post game presser.

Ya I found it. I just think their website is just not very good at anything aside from frequent lag.

What did you think of Blunder saying that Penn St. was better than Nebr. on paper ? seems to me those are things that a coach shouldn't say in public or maybe say it in a different way.

Speed Kills! Iowa had no answer to Teara's speed. If they played off her to combat that speed she stepped backed and drained the three. Rachel struggled with her shot, just looked off all afternoon. Emily only shot 5 times. And Hooper burnt them, they tried to defend her with Logic.

Logic is a thug. She's got to the point she wines to the ref everytime the call goes against her.  I was so glad when JHoop fouled her really hard toward the end of the game! Kastanek got in for a few minutes and sand bagged and got a lay-up. She's too slow to defend any of our guards so they stuck her on Emily on the post.

I think the best part of the game was when the Huskers came out of half time and Hooper scored 7 straight points and the 80 year old man that sat behind us yelled at his 78 year old wife

" why can't they stop her, she's ripping us a new ass hole"  I spit my pop I drank before the game!

Every answer was brief listening to the Iowa post game radio show with Bluder.

"only positive thing to come out of this game was the 8,000+ fans"

"couldn't explain how disappointed she was"

"everyone on the team better come to practice tomorrow focused and ready to push it"

Hand shakes between all coaches were quick and words brief.

I'm thinking Bluder probably threw her shoes against the locker room walls and layed in there kicking and screaming til they shut the lights out on her.

     made me laugh.

since iowa's defense is suspect, i thought huskers had a very good shot at this one. what a game by T!!! congrats to her!

And maybe she kicked a locker along with the rant.

When Iowa tried to run the Huskers ran with them and beat em at that.

I didn't finish watching the presser because their site was so bad but that quote by itself just seems odd. What's consistent is Bluder marginalizing anything Nebraska to secondary status. Like last year when she was talking about Iowa's 'real rivalry'.

I guess maybe they are tired of getting their butts beat with all of the promo's they were doing yesterday. So maybe it is becoming their rivalry.

Could it be the Kelsey Griffin effect taking over with this team? I noticed JHoop talking to the press with her view of what's going on lately with this team and quoting a lot from what KG told them pre-game Michigan!

Like I said earlier, I have a feeling that's a major factor.  How long will it last this season?
