Huskers Shoot for Fourth Straight Win in Battle with Boilermakers

The No. 17 Nebraska women’s basketball team takes aim at its fourth straight Big Ten win when the Huskers play host to Purdue on Monday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Tip-off between the Big Red and the Boilermakers on Martin Luther King Jr. Day is set for 6 p.m.

Nebraska is coming off an impressive 73-45 win over Penn State on Thursday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Huskers, who had all 12 players in uniform and available to play for the first time all season, got career highs of 18 points and six three-pointers from freshman Natalie Romeo. The 5-7 guard played a career-high 26 minutes while making her first career start. She added three rebounds and three assists in a tremendous all-around effort.

Romeo’s outburst from long range allowed the Huskers to hit a season-high 11 three-pointers against the Lady Lions. Romeo led four Huskers in double figures, including 12 points from Tear’a Laudermill, 11 from Allie Havers and 10 from Brandi Jeffery.

Purdue comes to Lincoln with a 9-8 overall and a 2-4 Big Ten mark trying to avoid its fourth consecutive loss. The Boilermakers are coming off a 65-56 home loss to Wisconsin, which followed a 24-point loss at Maryland on Jan. 8 and a 14-point setback at Iowa on Jan. 11.

Purdue leads the all-time series with Nebraska 5-1

    24 - Andreona Keys - 5-10 - Fr. - G - 5.8

    25 - April Wilson - 5-7 - Jr. - G - 8.4

Nebraska ranks No. 3 nationally with 12.3 personal fouls per game.

Nebraska hopes to have all 12 players available and ready for Purdue.

Rachel Theriot ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten with her .926 free throw percentage (50-54).

Emily Cady is the Big Ten Conference’s active rebound leader with 937.

Emily Cady’s 1,259 career points rank No. 16 in Husker history. She needs 25 points to catch Janet Smith.

Tear’a Laudermill is Nebraska’s No. 1 active career three-point shooter with 129 makes.

Brandi Jeffery’s most impressive gains have come on the glass, where she ranks second among the Huskers and 17th in the Big Ten.

If Yori could work in Cincore and Kalenta for a few minutes, we would have 5 coming off the bench!  Can you imagine?

I quess this is where I'd hope we would be.....getting the newbies involved. (maybe a little sooner probably...but...) Just seemed like the skills they all demonstrated, before coming here...would come into play......litterly.

Too bad we (they) lost about half the season because of all the issues.

This is the nice problem I thought would happen...to Yori.  Getting them on the floor.

Most seem to be able to shoot and score...that may be one of the nice surprises....if you can call it a surprise.

Maybe the last couple of games....we are seeing there is depth on the bench that can contribute. We just couldn't score effectivly for the first few games of the B1G....now we're getting on a roll.

It seemed Havers defensive play in the paint these days may be intentional...maybe that's the roll Yori wants Havers to play......tough play in the paint, ....harrass the othe post players to the extent they foul a lot....Penn States big girl foulded out after wrestling with Havers through out the game. Purdue gilrs also were called for some fouls with Havers.  Havers made their bigs works for every rebound/point.  Just an observation.......
