Huskers Host Annual Clash with Creighton Saturday Morning

The Nebraska women’s basketball team returns to action Saturday morning at Pinnacle Bank Arena to renew its annual series with Creighton.

Tip-off between the Huskers and the Jays is set for 11 a.m.

Nebraska opened a five-game home stand with a 95-75 win over Utah State. Jordan Hooper erupted for 33 points and 14 rebounds to produce her fifth double-double of the season. It was the seventh 30-point scoring performance of Hooper’s career. Hooper ranks second in the Big Ten in both scoring (21.6 ppg) and rebounding (10.8 rpg) through nine games this season.

Junior Emily Cady added her fourth double-double of the young season with 16 points and 10 rebounds while tying her career high with seven assists.

Creighton brings a 4-4 record to Lincoln after taking a week off from competition for finals. CU losses are to Oklahoma, Kansas, Drake and most recently, a one-point loss to unbeaten BYU. The Jays advanced to the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament, are led by Marissa Janning (17.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg) Sarah Nelson (11.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg).

    Probable Starters:

    Nebraska Cornhuskers

    3 - Hailie Sample - 6-1 - Jr. - F - 6.6 ppg

    23 - Emily Cady - 6-2 - Jr. - F - 13.6

    35 - Jordan Hooper - 6-2 - Sr. - F - 21.6

    33 - Rachel Theriot - 6-0 - So. - G - 12.2

    1 - Tear’a Laudermill - 5-9 - Jr. - G - 7.6

    Creighton Bluejays

    42 - Sarah Nelson - 6-0 - Sr. - F - 11.9

    55 - Alyssa Kamphaus - 6-3 - Sr. - C - 3.4

    11 - McKenzie Fujan - 5-11 - Sr. - G - 9.8

    23 - Marissa Janning - 5-8 - So. - G - 17.4

    32 - Jordan Garrison - 5-6 - Sr. - G - 3.3

Jordan Hooper joined Karen Jennings and Kelsey Griffin as the only players in school history to reach career milestones of 1,800 points and 900 rebounds. JHoop enters the Creighton game ranked No. 6 all-time at Nebraska with 1,879 points and No. 4 with 908 rebounds. JHoop needs 21 points to reach the 1,900-point plateau in her career. Last season JHoop failed to score in the Creighton game. Knock on wood that doesn't happen this season.

Emily Cady, ranks 16th in the Big Ten in scoring (13.6) and third in rebounding (9.4)

Rachel Theriot ranks No. 3 in the Big Ten in free throw percentage (.923) and No. 3 in assists (5.9).

Nebraska and Creighton have played 38 times through the years, Nebraska owns a 27-11 lead in the all-time series.

    Thanks Jeff Griesch!

** This article's photo goes out in honor of one of our favorite Cornhuskers Katie Simon #14 and for her contribution to the Huskers, even though she didn't get to see the court as much as she or we would have liked. We wish Miss Katie all the best as she takes that next big step into what is known as the rest of her life !

    Thanks Katie!!

Once a Husker always a Husker!

Here's hoping our Coach goes all out preparing for this one as I imagine she can remember all too well the barrage of "Over-Rated" chants coming from the Creighton fans in last season's game. I can't imagine that set too well with her or Coach Finch. I know it didn't set very well with me at all!

It looked to me like Brandi was a step faster than she has been. And she shot the ball well, Also the wrestling matches still continue  under the basket I thought the refs were clean up that mess

Nice win to get under our belts! 63-38 Huskers win it!

Brandi Jeffery was my MVP! Great minutes out of the junior guard. She's earned her starting position back in my opinion! She had 11 points and 4 assists. Emily Cady with another solid outing. 14 points, 7 boards, Just wish she would connect on  the contested lay up more. Creighton held (no pun intended) JHoop to 5 points but she grabbed 15 rebounds. Hailie Sample scored 13.

As they did last year Creighton tried to double up JHoop and let the others try and score. Only this time it didn't work. Plus the fact they couldn't throw it in the ocean the second half. The Huskers tried to feed the ball all game down under and it worked great just wish we could make more of those bunnies when they have someone hanging all over them. I thought it looked like JHoop was pressing as she took some shots that normally she would pass back out.

As I mentioned great minutes out of Brandi!

Creighton only shot 2 free throws the whole game while the Huskers shot 19.

Only 10 turnovers! But out rebounded 41-39.

Flannery get mads at his players and stomps his feet alot.

    5233 in attendance.

Here's something that got my goat today. I don't know why... (during the time out when they shoot Husker tee shirts into the crowd)... but they shot two into the Creighton section. Unless they're just not paying attention to where their shooting them I'm not sure. You're shooting Husker tee shirts into the crowd shoot them where they're appreciated.

I was sure the Huskers were ahead a bunch in the rebound department. But when I looked up to see how far ahead they were the Huskers were up like two rebounds. I guess getting only one O rebound will make the rebounds a bit closer.
