01/06/13 - Wisconsin Report card

This one hurts, you're not going to win too many games scoring in the 40s, but Wisconsin is one of them.

You're right Handy. When the players say they want 8 BIG wins, and Coach Miles says probably 4 or 5 is a closer number, this one had to be one of them.

What happened to the hot shooting from the first game in the Sun Bowl tourney? It kills you when your shooting averages 30-40%.

I thought that the Huskers came out with a lot of energy on offense to start the game and did some good things even though they didn't score a lot of points.  Where I was most disappointed about the offense was towards the end of the game.  They just stood around too much and took some bad, bad shots.  It was like they were waiting for Gallegos to get hot and just start draining 3's.

Not sure if the Honeymoon is over, However... mom-in-law has moved in, kids are screaming, and the honey-do list is pretty long. ;)

Nah.  We're still in Cabo sunning on the beach.  Our mother-in-law is still a couple thousand miles away freezing in the snow; there aren't any kids for several years yet; and the honey-do list is still limited to scheduling dinner, ordering drinks at the swimming pool bar, and various private activities!

Coach Miles and the staff have garnered a lot of good will by superior performance in just about everything thus far, and the honeymoon period will survive the brutal Big 10 schedule (though by early March we will all be more than a bit frustrated).

Sorry guys I'm sticking with the D on defense. I agree that we played solid defense for a good part of the game but that part was not a half or a run. It was the first 30 seconds of each possession when Wisconsin was just moving the ball around, but I lost count of the number of times we gave away baskets with < 5 seconds on the shot clock. That's unacceptable.

It was frustrating for sure, but down the stretch I think you have to tip your hat to Wisconsin's players for making some difficult shots.  Berggren, Evans and Jackson all made difficult shots against good defense.

*SIGH*  This one hurts more than most, why??  We had a winable game, in the Big 10, to go 1-1, at home, right before a stretch that is probably the most brutal of the season, and we folded.  We need someone to step up, or it will be a longer Big 10 season than I even thought.

Ray is streaky and takes tooo many shots when they are not falling.  What I would like to see a little more of is when Ray comes off a screan, stop, pump fake, get his defender in the air, and drive.  I think that this helps to get him even more open, and will open up a lot more looks for the team.

Brandon, thank you for keeping us from shooting 0% as a team from 3 point land, but bud, we need those 2 footers bad.  The effort is there, and I realize the shots sometimes do not fall, but man on a team that struggles to score, every missed lay up hurts that much more.

Dylan, you are a great leader, but please understand that you do not need to put all the weight on your shoulders.  Play loose man, and do not get into the "I need to get a bucket for the team" mode.  On those scoring droughts, if you are open shoot please... but you do not have to force up a deep three that is contested.  Think more like "The team needs a bucket, so let's find a way to get one."

To the team, hey play hard guys.  We may not be the best offensive or defensive team, have the best athletes, or win all of our games, but playing hard will give us opportunities to win.  We played hard in this one, but just ran out of gas I think.  I would like to see us jump stop and pump fake on some of our drives.  We seem to drive in and go right up and get blocked quite a bit.  Lastly, have confidence... we seem to lack confidence, espicially in tougher situations.  When the game is close, have the confidence to go out there and make something happen.  You are playing Division 1 basketball... take it as an opportunity and run with it.  Let's shock some people the rest of this year!

*** Hey I do not know if any players read the board or not, but if they do this one is for you.  It's my personal team speech.  We'll be behind you until the end!!  You guys can do it.  Still pleanty of time to reach your goal of 8 wins, so do not get down.  Keep fighting.***

Why thank you... I would say that brick wall you needed to run through was Notre Dames front 7, but then I realized tonight that the illusion the painted curtain that is their brick wall is not very hard to run through.

I'm not sure that Notre Dame's front seven had faced a NFL offensive line before that game.
