2015-2016 KenPom Rankings Thread

Wait, I heard all week that merely playing a juggernaut like Nova would greatly enhance NU's RPI... that sentiment does not appear to be foolproof at this point in time. Perhaps it's the feast at #CupcakeCity, baby. ;)

This isn't the RPI topic

Yeah, but the convo is ongoing elsewhere; and, I couldn't find the exact topic earlier...

As a bit of an aside, Mississippi Valley was in Colorado Springs to play #256 Air Force last night and they got beat on a last second layup 65-64.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) Trevor Lyons' buzzer-beater capped Air Force's 65-64 come-from-behind victory over Mississippi Valley State in an Air Force Classic game on Thursday night.

Lyons scored 19 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field and made 10 of 13 free throws. Hayden Graham added 14 points and Joe Tuss chipped in 6 points with 10 rebounds for Air Force (2-1).

Latrell Love, Damian Young, and Kylan Phillips scored 11 points apiece to lead Mississippi Valley State (0-2).

The Delta Devils had a 43-29 halftime lead, and stretched it 53-44. The Falcons used an 11-1 run to take a 55-54 lead with eight minutes left, and neither team led by more than a point the rest of the way.

Lyons made a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left. Rashaan Surles answered with a jumper with five seconds to play before Lyons made the game-winner.

Not saying it would have made a huge difference or anything, but it would have been nice for them to get that win.

Bounce back week for Maryland and Illinois and Ohio State keeps falling, reminds me a lot of Nebraska's fall last year during the non-con.  There is a clear division between the top 7 and bottom 7 B1G teams both in KenPom and in RPI Forecast.

For what it's worth, RPI Forecast has Nebraska as the best of the bottom 7 right now and nipping at the heels of 6th place, so we got that going for us, which is nice.  Additionally, RPI Forecast right now has us at about 90% chance of finishing .500 or better with the most likely win totals being 16, 17 or 18.  Maybe not quite bubble-worthy yet, but probably close.

Anyway, on to the rankings!

If you go by KenPom (which this thread obviously does), by the end of the night tomorrow night, we'll have faced 3 teams in the top 16 of KenPom's rankings.  That's got to be a huge boost to our strength of schedule (and a 4 point loss to Cinci isn't looking too bad at all, is it?) and if we can snag a win against Miami, it'll be a HUGE boost to our overall ranking.

Or, in the words of Donald Trump, it would be a YUGE boost.  Very classy, very tasteful, yuge boost.

Miami's loss to NE may have brought them down from cloud nine so I expect we will have Miami's full attention.  Listening to Coach Miles after the Tenn win he expected some tired legs for us come Tuesday but that home court advantage would prove to be true.  Excited to see how the team plays with their first true home test.
