Miles extension poll

What was your preference on Miles' extension?

114 members have voted

  1. 1. What was your preference on Miles' extension?

    • I'm confident that Miles is the long-term answer, give him a 5-year deal.
      34
    • Give him a shorter extension and hope the continuity leads to a big year next year.
      36
    • Give him a shorter extension as a reward for a good season this year.
      13
    • Give him a shorter extension because it would look bad to fire him after this season.
      6
    • I wish we had found a big name coach like Matta or Altman, but give him a shorter extension if we didn't.
      16
    • I wish we had fired Miles and found the best available coach.

Delusional people who think Moos is capable of hiring someone other than Ernie Kent.

He did hire Scott Frost.

Ernie Kent is a fun punchline but who really knows how capable Moos is of bringing in someone that can win here should he need to.

Hiring Scott Frost at Nebraska is a bit like making a 3 foot putt for par.  Not all that challenging.  Let's not pretend we hired Nick Saban here or something.  Besides from all reports it was actually Davison that got that job done anyway.

For me the jury is still out...WAAAY out...on Moos' actual capability.  That's all.

I like that Shawn Eichorst's Toupee liked this post by 9er.

Also Ernie Kent has 6 more NCAA tournament wins than Miles in his career. Making fun of a guy that’s been to 2 elite 8s, pot meet kettle.

When it comes to postseason success at Nebraska, Amy Williams (.333 winning %) > Scott Frost (.000 winning %). Men lie, women lie, numbers don't lie.

I don't know what this has to do with me liking that prior post, but I'll go with it: many times stats are a conundrum, wrapped into an enigma, shrouded by mystery.

Don't know, trying to read between the lines can often prove embarrassing, but here are a couple lines from a LJS article that was published tonight.  It appears to me that Tim is pretty happy with the extension he is about to receive.  That happiness may provide some positive follow up vibes.

Miles declined to go into specifics, saying any announcement would come from Moos.

With stability at the top, Miles said he expects the rest of his staff to stay intact. Michael Lewis, who just completed his second season at NU, and Jim Molinari, who just completed his fourth year, are set to hit the road to recruit when the current dead period ends Thursday.

I'll repeat:  Moos had better have a plan for Nebrasketball . . . and it'd better be a good one.

For fans of Moos's last hire at Washington St., here are details from the last four basketball seasons under that Coach:

2017-18:    12-19 (.387) overall;  4-14 (.222) in Conference

2016-17:    13-18 (.419) overall;   6-12 (.333) in Conference

2015-16:      9-22 (.290) overall;   1-17 (.056) in Conference

2014-15:    13-18 (.419) overall;   7-11 (.389) in Conference

I don't care how far you go back for better results, these details are terrible!   Tim Miles looks like a world-beater compared to that, as do Doc Sadler and the coach before him.

As an AD Moos has overseen more basketball success than Nebraska has seen in the history of our program. I think if husker fans were offered the possibility of the next 13 years looking like Kent/Moos 13 years at Oregon every single one of us would sign up for that. Also I don't think we can really compare the WSU job to the Nebraska job. WSU plays in a 40 year old arena, in the middle of nowhere, in a worse league, in front of less fans than D2 programs get.

Moos has also overseen more basketball failure than we've ever had at Nebraska.

If Moos actually has a good plan and is working it . . . that's fine and great.

But so far, it looks from the outside like his plan, whatever it may be, sucks.

And as a long-time Nebrasketball fan, this is not acceptable: it looks like he's inflicted a mortal wound without a replacement in hand.

So . . . I'll repeat:  Bill Moos had better have a plan, and it'd better be a good one.

Thus far, his plan, whatever it might be, looks like a pile of crap.

It's been 10 years since Ernie Kent has had a team post a winning record, even in a conference that is as hot garbage as the Pac 12.

Also, let's not pretend that Pullman Washington is some basketball version of Siberia compared to the Paris of Lincoln, NE.  For the most part in terms of hoops history they are about even.  If you want to count NCAA tourney wins as the best measure of a program's success, then WSU has it in spades over Nebraska.  Especially considering the Round of 32 and Sweet 16 appearances Tony Bennet took them to in '07 and '08.

I think people are more upset that Tim Miles has been trying to drive a car with his hands tied behind his back.  I think at this point, most people are ok with a new driver, or giving the current driver a new car.  However, I, along with others, are tired of the indecisiveness that has been showed but Moos so far and the previous AD.
