Especially when you haven’t mentioned the likely best shooter(Allen) who should get plenty of good looks with all of our penetration ability.

Yeah, TA is a good shooter.  Agree with what you say here.  A shooter like Allen in the mix will really force defenses to pick their poison.

I was lurking over on that other board and there were some ignoramuses talking like they knew something about basketball and one of them completely blew any credibility he had.  They were bagging on Thomas Allen, with one of the guys saying he "needs to improve..... a whole bunch to sniff increased minutes in major conference basketball."  Then, he claimed, "Tim's offense is the EXACT same "motion" set Doc ran."  But, the real doozy was when someone said Allen was basically nothing but a 3-point specialist who was a defensive liability, and this genius claimed, "With a slow release."

I'm sorry, but I've watched an awful lot of Thomas Allen shooting.  He does NOT have a slow release.  At all.  This was just an example, I'm sure, of some guy who knows nothing about hoops, but has heard people talk about "slow releases" in the past, just parroting what he's heard other people say in order to try to sound like he knows what he's talking about.

For those who have no clue, this is NOT a slow release:

Yeah.  Thing about Watson, as I showed yesterday, is that he had basically the same number of attempts soph and jr year but, because he shot the ball so much better from 3-point range as a soph, his scoring was a lot better.  Same attempts, basically.

So, Glynn wouldn't need to steal shot attempts from anyone in order to up his production.  All he needs to do is connect at the rate he connected at when he was a sophomore.  I think we'll see a more confident Glynn Watson doing just that this coming season.

And if Glynn RETURNS to 40% from three, and Isaiah STAYS at 40% from three, and Copeland REACHES 40% from three, who do you try to stop when you're defending them?

If that happens, we are Michigan last season.  We weren't far off from being as good as them last year.  They had a slightly more talented roster and more experienced coach, but there weren't big differences between our programs.  I felt the same way about Purdue.  It should come as no surprise that we'll be ranked to start the season, and I believe it will remain that way.

I have one.  Why is the red part so low for so much of this?

That is one only Tim Miles can answer... Sorry for any inconvenience ?

I remember Robe getting into foul trouble often early in the season, so he had to set on the bench.  At the start of the year he moved to playing Center and also quit fouling.  His minutes went up.

W the talent and the perceived coaching chops of Gates when it comes to shooting I would be shocked if we don’t have 5 or 6 guys shooting over 35 percent from 3 point land. W roby,Copeland,Allen all approaching 38+ percent.

I am hopeful we can keep up the team free throw percentage from last year as well, having all the regulars aside from jordy shooting in the 70s last year was such a luxury

More offseason love for Isaiah Roby

The official start of practices for the college basketball season is still a few months away, but that hasn’t stopped attention from finding Husker junior-to-be Isaiah Roby.

Roby, who already showed up in an ESPN.com mock draft last week, received a bit more attention on Wednesday when Sports Illustrated dropped its Top 60 prospects for the 2019 NBA Draft.

Do we need to start the "1 more year" chants already? Because i will.

I’ve always thought, for the motive of the fan, unless were talking about a lottery pick...chanting one more year puts in the player’s head that he IS good enough to go pro. But if you know he’s thinking about it, absolutely a pretty cool chant.

Roby is the best player on the team. Last year he was woefully underutilized on offense. Roby was by far the most efficient scorer on the team and was one of the most efficient scorers in the B1G. He should be the focal point of the offense and most sets should run through him. The days of Palmer shooting 15-20 times every game should be over and Miles should be exhorting Roby to be more aggressive and looking to both score and create for others. He also should have the green light to bring the ball up the court on a good portion of his defensive rebounds.

The following video explains in 5 minutes or less why Isaiah Roby is being looked at as a possible 1st round NBA draft pick after next season (oh, and for the people who think he can't post up …):

He had some mistakes in there but you can flat see the improvement.  Some of those moves were filthy (so were Watson's lobs).

Now he needs to have games like that against michigan or msu.

I'm not convinced that he was underutilized; rather, I don't believe he always took advantage of his open looks and his one-on-one situations.  Now, why he didn't jump on those opportunities is up for discussion.  Did he lack confidence?   Was he overly team oriented?  Was he restricted by the coaches?  Was he under pressure from his teammates?   I cannot definitely say, but my guess is that he lacked confidence,  but that confidence started to grow as the season progressed.

While I whole heartedly agree with you, Palmer is still going to shoot the rock 12-15 times a game.  We averaged 57 shots per game last year, and Palmer averaged 12.4 shots per game.  That is what I think he should shoot on average, because Palmer is off the charts when he is hot.  He should take 15 when he is hot, and maybe 10 when he is off to keep the other team honest.

Roby on the other hand only averaged 5.25 shots per game, and that is an absolute travesty!

If we shoot the ball 57 times a game again this year the shots should be as follows...

  • Palmer =11-12
  • Copeland = 9-10 (Every game he needs to be here)
  • Roby = 9-10 (Every game he needs to be here)
  • Watson = 6 (He could take some of Palmer's shots if he is feeling it)
  • Allen = 6 (4 if he is off and 8 if he is hitting)
  • Jordy = 6 (He need to shoot this much to keep them honest down low)
  • Rest of team = 7-10

EDIT:

  • Roby = 95 for 168 on the year
  • Watson = 120 for 346 on the year
  • Roby = 5.25 shots per game
  • Watson = 10.48 shots per game

^^^ Something seems backwards here

So if Roby took 346 shots last year he would of made 195 shots... Then if Watson only took 168 shots he would of made 63 shots... We would of made 43 more shots on the year.  This stat needs to be shown to the team IMO!

I'm pretty sure the staff and team are well aware of who shoots how many and how well. They are not incompetent. You'd be hard-pressed to find a junior high coach that did not know those type of statistics.
