Freshman of the Year Award leaders...

Recommended Posts

i would say Minnesota's Pitts, Nebraska's Cain, and maybe Purdue's McLaughlin lead the way.

awards issued (along with individual stats position):

Minnesota:  Destiny Pitts    6 weekly awards

                      20th in scoring

                      13th in rebounding

                      8th in 3pt %

                      4th in 3pt'ers made

                      7th in defensive rebounds

Nebraska:  Kate Cain   4 weekly awards

                     16th in rebounding

                     1st in blocks

                     10th in defensive rebounds

Indiana:  Jaelynn Penn  2 weekly awards

not mentioned among any individual stats

Northwestern:   Lindsey Pulliam   1 weekly award

                            13th in scoring

                            4th in free throw %

                            8th in minutes played

Purdue:  Karissa McLaughlin  1 weekly award

                11th in 3pt fg %

                13th in assists

                13th in 3pt'ers made

                14th in assists-to-turnover ratio

Michigan:  Hailey Brown  1 weekly award

as the season winds down, don't see anyone passing minnesota's Destiny Pitts for FOY:

avg minutes: 29.6

fg%  .410

3pt%  .374

ft%  .90

avg rebounds: 7.6

avg points: 12.9

i think Cain would have to place an amazing run in the final two games and have an amazing BTT to get herself back in contention.

Cain may or may not win the B1G freshman of year, but to my estimation she'll be on a B1G All Freshman team.

Kissenger too. (other teams sure were keying their defense on her all year.)  Pretty good indication of how the league views her value to NU.  Said it before but her complete game is what sets her apart from what I expected from an incoming freshman. (not just her shooting).

Kissingerhas came into her own in the last month, to bad she missed a month. she has became a rebounding fool, drives to hole, has an all around complete game.

My guess is Pitts wins the award.

Coach Williams is one of 10 finalists for Coach of the year... Not going to lie she is in the same paragraph as almost all of the best coaches in the Womens game. Kind of awesome to see.

The only Big Ten Conference coach listed among the 10 semifinalists for the Naismith National Coach-of-the-Year award, Williams joins Geno Auriemma (UConn), Vic Schaefer (Mississippi State), Jeff Walz (Louisville), Kelly Graves (Oregon), Kim Mulkey (Baylor), Muffet McGraw (Notre Dame), Robin Pingeton (Missouri), Karen Aston (Texas) and Joni Taylor (Georgia) among the contenders for the honor.
