Thorir Thorbjarnarson is N!

I will call him "Thor" for obvious reasons. Robin Washnut likes this commitment. Says he is not just a three point specialist but likes to slash to the basket and shoot floaters or dish it off. He is 19 years old and has played against some of the top competition in the world for Iceland. Washnut says that Thor has a high basketball IQ and knows where to be in space offensively. He averaged 20 points per game in the 2016 U18 FIBA World Championships. He is 6'5 but didn't see anything regarding his weight.

Here's the money quote from Washut:

"Thorbjarnarson should also be an immediate factor for the Huskers in 2017-18."

That's pretty high praise and I wonder what he bases that on. Is that something Miles told him or is that based on what he sees in video and stats?  Or did a Rivals recruiting analyst evaluate him and give Washut that impression?  I have no idea.  I like the pickup but that's a bolder statement than even I would have been willing to make.

It might be an obvious comparison, but I see a poor man's Ginobili all over the place with this guy.  He's gonna make plays.  I'm not sure he'll play this year, but he might be the purest 2-guard on the roster.  I really like his motor from the film I see, and he has plenty of skill.  I'd call him a 3* and easily a D1 prospect from what I've seen.

The #GoHuskers hashtag is a tough way to be discovered. Maybe a #GBR will be tweeted in his near future.

Between Thomas Allen telling everyone to follow and some #Nebrasketball retweet action he's added 200+ Husker fans in the last day

Nice article didn't really like reading that his shot is not great.  Hope the author is wrong.

I would not put much stock into the article.  The author likely knows about as much as we do in regards to Thor.  The author probably posts on this board considering he is a Husker basketball fan....and one that is not usually shy in drinking the Kool-Aid.

Some of these writers are trying to fill space without doing a lot of work.

Tai Webster was Tim Miles' first basketball recruit at Nebraska?  Really?  You mean, other than Terran Petteway, Walter Pitchford, Sergej Vucetic, Deverell Biggs, Nick Fuller and Nathan Hawkins?  (And you can probably add Shavon Shields and Benny Parker to the list.)

Thor had a disappointing shooting performance at the Euro U20 tournament he just played at, but that's a small sample size.  I read somewhere on this site that he shot like 38% from 3-point range on the season his most recent season in Iceland.  And, when you look at the kid's film, he's got a decent looking shot.  It's a Jack McVeigh style, not a lot of jump in it, but very compact stroke with a simple, quick, load and fire.

He's going to need to learn to spin in the lane for layups.  Some of the video shows him trying to dribble behind his back in the lane where most U.S. players would have done a spin move into a layup.  Behind the back dribble in the lane might work in Iceland, but he'll get his pocket picked here if he does that.

Nevertheless, the guy really pushes the tempo in the open floor, gets out on the break, gets himself in position to receive passes and just seems to have an intuitive sense of where the gaps in the defense are.  If he'd been an exchange student in Nebraska for his senior year of HS, I suspect he would have been one of the top players in the state and a D1 recruiting target with a lot more attention.

The author's name is Bryan Mauro.  I have no idea who he is or what his background is, but he's written articles for that site that deal with every major conference in the country.  His latest effort is "Pac-12 Basketball: Who is the top recruit for every team?"

I seriously doubt he's a member of this board and I'm not sure what you saw that made you conclude he's a Husker fan.  Not saying he's not but I didn't see anything suggesting that.
