Poor effort tonight.  Jake struggled with command.  Left far too many baserunners in scoring position.  Can't give up 6 runs on 3 home runs, and leave 14 baserunners on base.  Then, you decide to leave one of your closers in the game, without having anybody warmed, to throw 54 pitches, so he is unavailable for the rest of the series.  My biggest pet peeve of this year, is their usage of Luensmann this year.  It is beyond the stupidest idea in baseball.  Let's have the freshmen pitcher of the year, and use him for multiple innings, so we can only use him once in a series!!

Why couldn't we have left Palkert in, who was throwing strikes and getting outs?

It would have been too late, anyway.  He already threw too many pitches to come back this weekend.  Now, if you are in a save situation, you can use Alvarado, but who after that?  Alvarado has no experience pitching in back-to-back days.  It totally messes up your bullpen for the rest of a huge series.  If you want to make him pitch multiple innings make him a starter.  We have enough guys that can get you from starter to closer.  McSteen, Palkert, Fischer, Waldron.  I'm probably missing a few.  They show much better ability to pitch well for multiple innings, then Luensmannn has this year.

Iowa just lost a series to Northwestern, and we lose to them at home.  That cannot happen.  We are 5-8 vs. Iowa since joining the Big 10.

A bad night to give up long balls.  Scored enough runs to win, but Hohensee couldn't keep the ball in the ball park.

The home run ball is the great equalizer.  It's unfortunate we have struggled to develop power.  Need to win the next two. Can't do continue to lose series to Iowa. Feel good about the pitching matchups.
