Here's the worst-case scenarios:

Lose out: 6th

Win 1, Lose 2: Tied 4th

Win 2, Lose 1: 3rd

Win out: Tied 1st

Keep in mind, Minnesota was able to reschedule their games with Rutgers so they have 5 conference games remaining.

HuskerFever, The B1G includes the tie as a half win and a half loss, so all the math changes. Here is the standings from the Big Ten site;

http://www.bigten.org/library/stats/base-standings.html

Standings Conf.   Pct. Overall   Pct. Home Away Neutral Last 10 Streak
Nebraska 14-6-1  .690 32-17-1  .650 17-6-0 12-5-1 3-6-0 8-2-0 W2
Michigan 14-7-0  .667 39-12-0  .765 21-5-0 12-5-0 6-2-0 8-2-0 W3
Minnesota 12-6-0  .667 30-17-0  .638 14-12-0 16-5-0 0-0-0 5-5-0 L1
Maryland 15-9-0  .625 33-17-0  .660 20-3-0 8-12-0 5-2-0 5-5-0 L2

Indiana 12-8-1  .595 29-19-2  .600 14-8-1 12-9-1 3-2-0 7-3-0 W2
Purdue 10-11-0  .476 26-24-0  .520 10-10-0 16-14-0 0-0-0 4-6-0 L5

Penn State 3-18-0  .143 16-35-0  .314 8-11-0 6-21-0 2-3-0 2-8-0 L2

If Minn. and the Huskers win out MU would be 17-6 (.739) and we would be 17-6-1 (.729).

We need Minnie to fall under the starting pitching strain. We all become big Rutgers fans on Wednesday and Purdue fans for a weekend of baseball.

In the meantime, take care of business in Happy Valley.

The schedule has Minny playing 2 games on Tuesday and then Thursday starts the series with Purdue

And, factor in that Minny won the league last year because they played one less game (essentially). Gophers were 16-7 while the Huskers were 16-8.

Keep in mind that Nebraska has beaten Minny 14 of the past 17 games. It would be totally craptastic if NU were to fall "a tie" shy of a title when the Gophs would *again* be victorious for not making up that final game in back-in-back seasons.

Another way to look at it is they have to play 5 games this week, while we play 3.

Good call. Here's the worst-case scenarios with the change in math:

Lose out: 6th

Win 1, Lose 2: Tied 4th

Win 2, Lose 1: 3rd

Win out: 2nd

If all we're concerned about is Minnesota right now, here's the given scenarios:

Minn wins 5, loses 0: NU is 2nd, at best

Minn wins less than 5: NU must win "Minn Wins minus 1"

As for Michigan, we need to match or exceed wins.

Even tho we arent playing the best competition hopefully the chance at conference title is enough to keep them from playing flat and uninspired against lowly Penn State.

Best case scenario is Minnesota drops one against Rutgers on Tuesday. Then the boys will be able to see the finish line and have a conf championship in sight no matter how any other teams play.

Yeah it would be ideal if we controlled our own destiny on Thursday. Penn State has a excellent ace that they will be throwing Thursday. He went 7 innings and allowed 1 earned against Indiana and went 8.1 and allowed 2 earned against Maryland - so we cant sleep on him.

Given the two scenarios below, which benefits us more or hurts us more?

1.  Going 2-1 or 1-2 against Penn State and losing the Regular Season title by a game or two.  Then turning around and winning the conference tournament.

OR

2.  Sweeping Penn State and winning the regular season title but only winning a game or two in the conference tournament.

I feel like we would be seeded around the same in both scenarios. RPI wise were gonna want to sweep Penn State. Indiana went 2-1 against Penn State last week and dropped 10 spots in the RPI. I think were a solid 2 seed if we win the regular season title and go 2-2 in the the conf tournament and I think were a solid 2 seed if we go 2-1 against Penn State and win the conf tournament.

There is two regionals that I want no part of. I don't want to see us in Oregon State's regional or Louisville's regional.

In the last Regional update from D1 baseball they had the Huskers going to Corvallis as a 2 seed

Their pitching staff is absolutely frightening. I don't think any 2 seed is getting out of Corvallis. Hopefully we take care of business and get a beatable 1 seed.

If you're the Minnesota coaching staff how do you handle your starting pitching do you throw your Ace of the staff who through Friday that would be three days rest and if you did that then do you throw him back to Saturday or Sunday of next week that would give him three or four days rest

Kind of a weird situation to be in.  Reminds me a lot of high school baseball districts where you probably just want to win the next game.  Minny cannot afford to lose much at all.  Yeah, these two today are just against Rutgers, but you do not want to lose one today and risk losing another against Purdue.  What I would do if I was Minny...

Tuesday- Throw my FRI and probably SAT starters.

Thursday- Throw my Sunday guy.

Friday- Toughest situation to be in... Going to have to go with my mid-week starter.

Saturday- Mix between guys who pitched Tuesday.

Can't really feel confident if your Minnesota and having to win 5 in 5 days.  Will be interesting to watch this play out.

It looks like the first game between Rutgers and Minny is on BTN. then the second one is on BTN Plus. I'll be in the dentist chair for part of the first game. YEAH YEAH.

If they use this rotation they will be in a spot at the start of the B1G tournament where they will face whether they will start their Friday starter after back-to-back 3 days of rest.

Any way they work it they will start the tournament at a disadvantage pitching-wise.:)
