The crowd (Kent and Matt)

This was Michigan's "Maize Rage" handout on us.

When it all boils down, they have a go-to of extremely simple cheers, especially on offense so it's not just dead.

Getting people to cheer when we're on a run or during close games is easy.  The point I'm trying to hammer across in this thread is that I can get every 80 year old lady in my section to glady chant "here we go Nebraska, here we go (clap clap)" during the points when the team is dead and the crowd needs to start something. It's something that needs to be addressed if nothing else in the off-season.

I think we should have most of the games covered from here just by the name of the team coming to town with the exception of our Valentine's Day matchup with Penn St because we get up for PSU like most people gear up to play against us.

Wow, their sense of humor is really "corny", huh?  That page looks like it was written by an 80 year old grandma.

And here I thought Michigan was a great institution of higher education with some of the nation's brightest minds...this was all they could come up with?

Disappointing.

You don't think that is a purposeful Cornhusking pun?

They wrote "Nebraska" four times in that paragraph and spelled it correctly three times.  I had considered the possibility it was meant to be punny, but decided it probably wasn't due to that fact.

I could be wrong, though.  I have been before...

Think it was written by Jean Peck's twin sister Jane Peck.

1. This is publicly available information. I found it just by doing my per game research. You're playing with fire if you as a student organization are publicly walking or going over the line.

2. I can hear our coach yelling and understand what he's saying at points. Does it really seem like we're doing a better job than disappointing corny humor at some of these games?

No I get it.  They're well organized and that's great but one would expect that from a student section at a place like Michigan where they do things like win conference championships and go to Final Fours and stuff.  I'm just saying relying on the "Nebraska is dumb and all they have is corn" jokes is pretty lazy.  One would expect more from a place that considers itself as academically prestigious as Michigan.

Maybe I'm giving them too much credit though.

Well, they are too dumb to realize they've named their student section after corn.

My beef with our students is primarily with the band.  (and I say this in as loving a way as possible, considering I used to be a part of that band)

Our basketball pep band is just terrible.  Awful.  It really saddens me to say that too.  But we have got to have perhaps the worst non Big East basketball pep band in the country.  Just embarrassing from any standpoint.  If there's one thing I could change about our student section, it would be the band...and their director.

Wasn't the pep band years ago right behind the visiting team or right in that corner?  Norm (the other guy) got pissed at them for something (probably playing music) and this caused the university to move the band farther away from the team.  I could be mistaken...but I just seem to remember something about that.

Yes, I was part of the band when it was on that side...right before they moved it to the other side of the basket.

It was probably an NCAA rule that required the move.

Yup...Norm loved Iba/Cip and despised Danny.  Norm would jab at Nee at any opportunity.  Norm also hated that students brought cap guns to the game in honor of the Steve Stipanovich gun incident.  Norm hated our band, hated our benches, hated our scoring table and pretty much hated everything else about Nebraska :)

By the way Stepo grew up to be a Dad of a number of athletic children... http://www.slubillikens.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=27200&ATCLID=209370838

Thanks for the link to that article.  Interesting to read about where Stipanovich is at now.   Hated him when he was at Mizzou - but mostly because him and his teams there were very good :)

9-15 at home against power 5 schools + Big East since year one of the PBA.  Are we sure it's a Nebraska fan base issue?  It would be great if everybody was like the diehards on this board and yelled non stop every game but that's just not realistic.  It's not just a Nebraska thing.  Sooner or later people get tired of losing and unfortunately this team/staff has done quite a bit of that in Lincoln the past few years.
