This thread quickly turned in to the nickname thread... don't hate that at all.

In terms of depth-
Center- Jacobson/Jordy
PF-Morrow/Horne/Fuller
SF-McVeigh/Roby/Horne
SG-Webster/Gill
PG- Watson/Taylor

Fuller has experience and therefore he still gets his minutes... freshman will screw up and they will have to fight to get minutes.

I would prefer if Miles didn't do that thing where a guy gets 15 minutes one game and then 2 minutes for the next 4 games. Would prefer consistency.

Coming into the year...I struggled to see Horne getting minutes.   Completely surprised with his skills.   Great shooter.   Good ball handler for a stretch 4.  Not sure I like him a ton on the wing as ball handling and defense could be an issue in big 10 play...but love him in the frontcourt.    He'll get some looks away from the basket against other 4 and 5 men

He might not yet be there on Defense at the 3 right now. However I do not have any doubts he will be able to guard that spot. I was surprised at his ball handling, way better than Andrew White at the 3 last year, do not think it will be an issue at all on the wing. He has had a couple real nice drives but not really involved in press break yet. I think you can play him, Roby, and Jack at the 3 or 4 together when needed. We have a ton of options for different lineups at 3,4,5 if Jordy picks it up a little.

The thing about Nick Fuller is that he doesn't exactly have a definitive position. Two slow to defend/play 3, too small to defend/play the 4. His experience trumps that of the youngins, which will be the only thing buying him minutes. If he could consistently knock down shots, maybe he would get more clock. Feel bad for the kid, as he really seems to be the "Everyday" guy for this team. Hopefully whatever role Miles bestows upon him, he can embrace it.

Ed is actually playing the Post/Center and MJ is playing PF/4.  That said, MJ adds to depth at Center because he played there last year.

49r, that's a cool graphic.  Is that a Kenpom thing?  It should be an interesting thing to look at about 7 games into the season when the numbers are no longer distorted by the game against UMary where Miles was deliberately trying to get the new guys in as much as possible.  Right now, the numbers are off a bit, obviously.  But once we settle into the season a bit, that's going to be an interesting thing to come back and take a look at.

Wasn't there a bit of time against Mary when Jordy and MJ were on the floor at the same time? I thought I heard Kent mention that.  If that's the case, shouldn't Jake have some percent of the PF minutes? They weren't both playing center.

Yep.  KenPom.  He even breaks it down into individual lineups and how much they played together.  That's a different chart.

I thought Zay played some SG in the last two games.  That kind of surprises me that he has no minutes shown at that position.  Oh well.

In the above graphic it's an educated guess based on size and weight what position the guys are playing

Border thickness proportional to player %Poss, green shading proportional to 3PA/(.475*FTA+FGA)

Percentage of possessions used (%Poss): A measure of personal possessions used while the player is on the court. Simply assigns credit or blame to a player when his actions end a possession, either by making a shot, missing a shot that isn’t rebounded by the offense, or committing a turnover.

In other words,

the darker the border, the more you're handling the ball

the darker the green shading, the more of a 3pt threat you are (doesn't necessarily mean you make them....just measures if you take them)

So that means the guys with shading have the green light from outside? (rim shot!)

Nothing more than a suspicion, but I'd guess Miles has told the newcomers to prove they can play defense and rebound before they start jacking up 3s.

A pretty solid suspicion.   It probably also applies to one on one shots out of the offense.  In the first half the other night, Horne tried a dribbling, spinning baseline shot from about 10 feet, and was quickly informed that if he did that again, he would be sitting next to coach.

I think it was @AuroranHusker but whomever it was who told me that Taylor was a lot higher than 9 on my rotation list seems spot on ATM.

The thing I forgot to consider about Evan Taylor is that while he's new he's not a freshman and while did play juco ball last year he's not a Juco.  Thus while I think you can argue he's not as talented as our other newcomers what he lacks in upside he delivers in experience and consistency.

Yeah, I am the one who touted ET, basically since he signed this summer. And I mentioned that a lot of people will be surprised at the number of minutes that he'll have this year.

I've been one of those certainly suprised by how much he's playing. His game is matching up with what I heard about him, though. Solid, solid defensively. Offensive game lacks and if he has to handle the ball, buckle up. He's a role player, but all good teams need guys like that. He seems fully bought in, though and that's a huge piece of the puzzle.

Boy it seemed to me that part of the reason he was out there was specifically help us against the pressure that LA Tech was putting on. Thus far he's seemed to grasp the importance of ball control since that 6 turnover Chadron St debut.

Totally agree Dimes.  I thought he took good care of the ball and handled pressure well.  One of the underrated aspects of ET and this team as a whole is their demeanor.  I was impressed on Saturday night with how we never got rattled, even though seemingly every time we stretched the lead a bit, LA Tech came back and closed the gap.  We never panicked and showed resiliency and tougherness that we have lacked in recent years.  So far this team hasn't gotten rattled, will be interesting to see how the tourney in CA goes.
