Huskers Head to the Barn to Battle Gophers at Minnesota Sunday
The Nebraska women's basketball team hits the road for the third time in the past four games to face Minnesota in Minneapolis on Sunday, Jan. 20. Tip-off between the Huskers and the Golden Gophers is set for 5 p.m.

The Huskers will shoot for their first weekend win in Big Ten road play while trying to secure their first-ever win against Minnesota on the Gophers' homecourt.

Getting a win this weekend at Minnesota won't be easy. The Gophers, who are 13-5 and 2-2 in the Big Ten, are 10-1 at Williams Arena this season. Both the Huskers and the Gophers, who are coming off a loss at Purdue, will be hungry for a win.

The Gophers are one of the conference's most improved teams after finishing 6-10 in the league last season and 19-17 overall. Led by sophomore guard Rachel Banham and junior forward Micaëlla Riché, the Gophers are among the nation's top 60 RPI teams and are in the hunt for their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2009. Last year, Minnesota claimed the Women's Basketball Invitational title.

As a team, Minnesota ranks as one of the Big Ten's top offensive units. The Gophers are averaging 72.7 points per game (2nd), while shooting 45.1 percent from the field (4th) and 32.3 percent from long range. They have also hit 75.2 percent of their free throws (4th). Minnesota is also one of the Big Ten's most complete teams, as the Gophers own a plus-5.1 rebound margin (6th) and plus-2.2 team turnover margin (3rd).

Nebraska and Minnesota are tied in the all-time series at six wins apiece, after splitting home games in their first-ever Big Ten season series last season.

Jordan Hooper is one of only eight Huskers in history with 1,400 points and 600 career rebounds and has pushed her career totals to 1,400 points and 671 rebounds. Nebraska's distinguished 1,400/600 list includes first-team All-Americans Karen Jennings (2,405 points/1,000 rebounds) and Kelsey Griffin (2,033/1,019), along with 1988 Big Eight Player-of-the-Year Maurtice Ivy (2,131/778). In other B1G games Northwestern has just a couple of days to prepare for the Illinois buzz defense and goes into Champaign and knocks off the Illini 62-58

That was an incredibly pleasant surprise for me, to say the least.  It helped that the refs appeared to call a lot more fouls on Illinois.

Huskers are up, 56-44 with ??:?? in the game.

84 - 63 final. Arguably the best offensive showing of the year!! Did we find our mojo? Let's hope so. When you have everyone contributing the way they did tonight we are one of the top 20 teams in the country no question.  Really pleased with what we saw this evening! Only 11 turnovers.

Lindsey "ironwoman" proved again why she is the best point guard in the conference! 26 pts 7 assists, and 7 rebounds 3 steals 38 minutes.

And Rachel Theriot played most likely her best game of the year to go with it.   13 pts, 8 asts, 39 minutes

Emily with another double/double 12 points could have been a lot more to go along with 10 rebounds

JHoop threw in 17 and grabbed 8 boards.

Nice win tonight. Our hot shooting covered up some continuing flaws. Next stretch of games could be crucial. Next 4 are winnable if the team plays and shoots like they did tonight. Shot selection was much better. It would be nice if Williams could score a few buckets a game. Depth is really lacking currently. Conference seems to be much better this year than last. Could be as deep as this year's Big XII, which after Baylor, doesn't really have any strong teams.
