Huge pro and huge con with our two early Big 10 games.

Opening in East Lansing, I thought was terrific.  It's highly unlikely that we win that game with or without Copeland.   That is a game that I really don't think the outcome changes with or without him.

The Minnesota game at home is unfortunate.  IMO...they will be a top 4 conference team next year.   It's a winnable game without him...but our chances go up dramatically with him.  Going 1-1 in this stretch would've been/would be massive.

All in all....the schedule this year sets up as well as one can reasonably hope for.   We have a solid but not overly difficult non-con.  Our home and homes are as advantageous as we could've hoped for and we have an opportunity to really close the year strong.

When the hell did this happen?

Any chance we can get in on the Mitchell Robinson sweepstakes? We still have an open spot after all.

It looks like he was granted release from Western Kentucky on Aug. 2. He was suspended indefinitely July 31 for "violation of team rules."

I haven't really kept all that close of tabs on it, but from the sound of things, KU's taking a shot (and a pretty long one at that I think) that he'll:

a). Be granted a waiver that will reinstate eligibility for this year - as of right now he burned eligibility by practicing with WKU this summer and must sit out as a transfer player

b). NOT go one and done like he's expected to at this point and will be able to have an impact for them as a sophomore

So essentially, what they're banking on in the case that he's 1 and done, AND is unable to play at all this year, is he'll take a scholarship to pretty much be a practice player.  Anything else is gravy.

Oh, and Norm, I really doubt we could get in on the Robinson sweepstakes at this point because we aren't a blue-blood with open scholarships to give nor are we his home town team (New Orleans, LSU...)

Also we didn't hire his godfather, Shammond Williams, which is how he ended up at Western Kentucky.

Shammond Williams quit for some reason in July.  Robinson then went awol from campus a month later.

I didn't bring this all up in recruiting when it was going down because that guy isn't going here.

The Robinson saga continues, apparently he still hasn't decided but it's looking very likely it won't be KU (he might just sit out altogether for one year).  Anyway, Phog.net has started to have some pretty great "we didn't want him anyway" posts, LOL:

"If he chooses the "hometown star" route then I wont feel its much of a miss because I doubt he would have done well in Self's system anyway. Its basically easy route to the NBA vs busting butt to win. I know Self has trouble with kids who arent looking to bust their butts to win."
