Ashtyn Veerbeek

Just watched some of her videos. (not positive, but these may be sophomore highlights)

Impressive for a young 2018 recruit. She looks and plays physical and aggressive ....not a wall flower on the court. Looks like she already has a pretty complete game, compared to other kids that age, and size.. . Good size at 6-2...maybe she'll grow another inch or two or three...maybe. ;)

Veerbeek is averaging 25.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game this season and has helped her team to a 6-1 record. Last year, she averaged 16 points, and Western Christian was state runner-up.

She is on their schools state championship volleyball team..TWICE ...knows what it takes to win.

Great news for the future of Husker women's BBall.  !!!!!!!

Coach Williams and Coach Mays making another home visit tonight this time in Plano TX where they offered 6' guard Lauren Davenport. She's set to get a lot OF D-1 offers before it's said and done. Read more about her on the Big Board also.

ProspectsNation.com @ProspectsNation  reports that Ashley Joens that is on our 2018 list...has committed to Iowa State

5 Star, 5-11 guard out of Iowa City High School in Iowa City IA. Ranked as the 16th best player in the nation by ESPN. Iowa High School 2015 player of the year. Averaged 19.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game her junior year. Unofficial visit to Nebraska in Sept. Has major interest from Iowa St, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas, De Paul, and many others.

ESPN says this about her: Fundamental off-guard manufactures, delivers in half-court game; executes off screens with smooth release on jumper to the arc; mid-range game producer; emerges as an elite prospect in the class of 2018.

Western Christian defeated Sioux Falls O'Gorman by 3 (56-53?) at the SF's Pentagon about 10 days ago. O'Gorman usually puts out very competitive girls teams against the bigger schools in that area. Get their share of trips to the state tournament---battled for state championship in 2015, but, lost by 3. i believe O'Gorman is .500 so far this season, but, have had their chances in the losses. Tried to find stats for that WC vs O'Gorman game but didn't find any.

ok, found her stats for this game:

22pts

9-18 in fgm/fga

1-3 3pters

3-5 ft's

5 off rb

6 def rb

4 assists

1 steal

2 blocks

2 fouls

nice days work

also came across ashtyn veerbeek's stats for the season so far:

class 2a

games: 6

fg attempts: 106    fg/made: 54  fg%: 50.9

3pt attempts:  16  3pt'ers made: 5  3pt%: 31.3

free throw attempts: 50  free throws made: 39  ft%: 78

total pts: 152  pts/game: 25.3

I kind of temper my thinking on high school stats (although Ashtyn's look good) because of the lower Iowa class she plays in....but...she has the size and apparently the tools to learn and excel at the college game. She looks pretty strong too. And...she's real young, so has time even in high school to get stronger, and develop her skills. And grow an little more maybe.

She'll probably be at summer camps to learn from the staff, and give her hints of what to work on. (don't know how much teaching of kids at camps, is allowed by NCAA)

She'll start from scratch in the Coach Williams mold, so won't have any kind of "baggage" to bring along. The freshman this year really seem to respond to Coach. I'm sort of beginning to see how the new will program will develop under this new staff. There's lot's of stuff to work on still...but am seeing progress . (that's a whole other topic)  And a coach-mother to "school" her as she goes along in high school and later at NU.

We need more kids her size ....and bigger.

Husker recruit Ashtyn Verbeek has led her team to the Iowa State tourney..

Quote

Fourth-ranked Western Christian, despite 22 turnovers, advanced to the Class 2A state tournament with a hard-earned 63-50 triumph.

Ashtyn Veerbeek, a 6-foot-2 senior and University of Nebraska verbal commit, fought double-team pressure much of the night. Still, the state tournament veteran turned in her ninth consecutive double-double, finishing with 34 points and 12 rebounds.

It was the 17th double-double of the season for Veerbeek, who scored the final 15 points of the game for Coach Justin Negen’s squad. Her last seven points in the game’s final 28 seconds came from the free throw line, where she only missed once.
